      You should have no problems . Usually the airlines are pretty strict about crates and per carriers so they should meet the agriculture department requirements. I have never flown with my pets so I am not sure of the process but it has been pretty smooth for us at the land border.

    Beautiful furbabies !
    We are retiring in 3 years or less and thought about SE Asia, or Ecuador, or Colombia....but as we have gotten closer we realize that at least 1 or 2 of our furbabies may still be with us ( we have 5 senior dogs )...the most likely to still be with us is a sweet pit mix named Abby, who will be 12 years old at the time. So, if any are still with us, we will drive them into Mexico.
    We don’t want them in an airplane cargo area, so...
    When they pass away, we may travel a bit, unless we just find a place in Mexico where we feel very comfy. We speak Spanish and have a daughter that just built a house outside of Queretaro.

    Those are some beautiful fur kids. Will be relocating with my sweetheart cocker spaniel and my far less likable sheltie. We plan on following the letter of the law in all ways, so if we get thrown out of Mexico, it's going to be the fault of the sheltie who needs an exorcism or the services of a Shaman. (Side note: his name is Ben, but we call him Bendejo on occasion.)

    I didn’t even know there was an ag inspector at a land border. Just let the 20 year old military guy wave us through :/)

    • @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL
      @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is supposed to be an agricultural inspector at every port but I said in my video, we have only encountered them on two occasions and that is when we got the red light and sent in for inspection. Even on those two occasions, they did not conduct any kind of inspection on our fur babies. Pre-2019 they did ask to see vaccination records and the second time they just looked in the car and when we presented the vaccination records, they said they aren’t required anymore then sent us on our way. This is two times in 10 years of crossing the border. We have been inspected randomly by Customs many times but never see the agriculture inspector. We cross through Texas. I am unaware of other ports.

      @@RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL Thanks - there are so many little things in Mexico that are just supposed to be known. In the US, the government does more hand-holding. I recently learned about FMMs for residents when leaving the country. I figured once I had my residency I was done with the FMM forms. So much to learn ;-)

    So if I want to bring my three cats across the border by car, then I'd need to travel with one other person in the car, to justify the third pet?

    We thought about retiring to several different countries but we still have 3 senior dogs and flying them was unappealing to us sooooo Mexico it is ! We are driving them to San Cristobal de las Casas. We will stay in Mexico for AT LEAST the time until they pass away…and may stay forever.
    My only concern is you saying they have to be in a crate when we cross the border ?
    Our dogs have never been crated and we had planned to have them in the back of our SUV….that won’t work ? Thx !

    • @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL
      @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Banana Patch although there is a crate requirement. We have never had an issue crossing a land border. We do not use a crate when crossing. The crate is more for flights. On another note. In the 10+ years that we have crossed the border with our fur babies, we have only been inspected once by agriculture. Even then they just looked in the car at our babies and waved us through.

      @Fabian N Good question, I have never tried to walk across with a pet or known someone who has but I would assume that the regulations are the same.

    Hello, question about when you had to go see the inspector for your pups. Did they give you a confirmation paper confirming you actually took your dogs to get checked or did they just let you continue you way? just in case someone asked for it? thank you

    • @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL
      @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Griselda Jimenez The agriculture inspector, if they are even there, will do a cursory inspection and let you go on your way. Once you cross the border or make entry at the airport, you will not be asked for any proof. You need you shot records and health records though so when you continue your vet care in Mexico, they are aware of your pets condition. Also, on some vaccines the schedule is different here so the vet will want to know what vaccines your pet has received or not received so they can adjust the vaccination plan. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the informative video. If travelling from Canada to Mexico, is there any import form that has to be filled in advance ?

    • @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL
      @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Nupur Deshwal The requirements are the same as if coming from the US. No import form for dogs or cats and no health certificate(Although always recommended along with vaccination records). For reptiles and birds it’s a different story as mentioned in the video.

    My wife has 2 Guinea pigs..how would that work?? Could she bring them land or air?

    • @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL
      @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Other common pets such as rabbits, ferrets, hamsters, gerbils, and guinea pigs may be imported if they are in good health. There are restrictions on Birds , Reptiles and exotic animals.

    Do pets have to quarantine ?

    • @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL
      @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Aniley if they are exotic pets such as birds, snakes, etc. Yes, they must be imported and for some species they do require quarantine. As far as Cats and Dogs, No. hope that answers your question..😀

    Do the pets need to be crated to enter Mexico ?

    • @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL
      @RetiredLifeinMexicoNOBULL  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends. If you pet arrives in cargo then I must be in a clean travel crate. If you are allowed to carry them on board it must be in an approved pet carrier. If crossing a land border, in our experience they don’t need to be in a crate.
