I have discussed my politics and my total disgust with Donald Trump with my Mexican friends, and it has not devolved into any vicious arguments - I suppose that its because my views are well reasoned and considered, and I use logic, facts and evidence to back them up. In return, many of my Mexican friends will share their views on Mexican politics with me, like how they feel about AMLO, and why - AMLO seems to be a very controversial figure in Mexico, with some loving him and others hating him. Autocracy seems to be on the rise, and sadly, it seems to be a universal trend around the globe. But the true autocrat is Donald Trump; with AMLO, it seems to be a case of monkey see, monkey do. Also, every Mexican president can only serve one term, and as AMLO's six year term is drawing to a close, he is trying to resort to autocratic measures to try to push his ambitious agenda through. But the Mexican people are too independent and freedom loving, and are pushing back.

I was born in and lived in the USA for 45 years. I went to Mexico in 2006 to learn Spanish. I figured I'd spend a total of 6 months there. Except for a few visits back to the USA, I've been living here ever since 2006 - almost 18 years now. Last time I went to the USA was in 2012. I have absolutely no desire to return to the USA. The thought of going back is actually scary.

Here I am watching your video, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, as I am getting ready to head south down to Guanajuato, in the central highlands of Mexico for the winter. Personally, I prefer the higher elevations in Mexico and not the beach towns, for the main reason that there are too many mosquitoes on the beach, and I would get eaten alive. Guanajuato, where I usually stay, is very high in elevationn, and has very few mosquitoes, even in the summer. Regarding your five reasons - and maybe a few of my own - everyone is different, and has to manage their lives differently, and there is no one size that fits all. For me, for example, I have chronic digestive and intestinal issues that don't have me doing that well with a lot of the Mexican food - can't eat chiles, greasy fried food, too much meat, all of which Mexico has in abundance. My gut biome is very weak, so I really need to watch sanitation and food cleanliness, and I have to take several months' supply of mega high potency probiotics, much higher dosage than is available in Mexico, with me each time I go. But the Mexican herbs keep me going, and I have found a miraculous herb for inflammatory / autoimmune bowel disease, which I have: CHAPPARO AMARGO! It has helped me tremendously, and even increased my tolerance of various foods. I would heartily recommend it to anyone suffering from colitis, Crohn's disease, food allergies and intolerances, or irritable bowel. There are also a lot of great local herbs for managing blood sugar and type two diabetes, which is another health concern of mine. And yeah - healthcare really sucks in the US - all the bureaucracy and red tape really sucks, but in Mexico, you can walk into a Farmacia, many of which have doctors consulting there, like Farmacias Similares, and the doctor can order an A1C test or any other health test you need, all for a nominal fee, and it's sooo convenient! Of all your five reasons, the one that resonated the most with me was starting new habits. And perhaps the number one habit that you need to break, especially if you're coming from the US, is the habit of plopping in a car - time to get out and walk! Guanajuato, with all its steep hills and alleyways, gives me a great workout, and the exercise factor alone seems to have a very beneficial effect in lowering my blood sugar. So try to get yourself into a situation where you're not driving everywhere, OK?

      @MovingToMexiCo  ปีที่แล้ว +4

Thank you for sharing your perspective! It's great to hear about your experiences and preferences for higher elevations in Mexico. You're absolutely right; everyone has their unique needs and circumstances. Your insights on managing your health while enjoying your time in Mexico are valuable. The information about CHAPPARO AMARGO and local herbs for various health concerns is very informative. Safe travels to Guanajuato, and may you have a wonderful winter season there!

@@MovingToMexiCo I want to shout it from the rooftops: You DON"T have to sacrifice your immunity and your ability to fight infections if you have an autoimmune disease! HERBS ARE THE ANSWER!!! Herbs heal and balance the immune system, reducing allergic and autoimmune reactions while at the same time supporting and enhancing overall immunity! As my teacher of Ayurvedic Medicine used to say: Herbs have biological intelligence inherent in them. And while I'm at it, another Mexican miracle herb for those who suffer from sciatica and low back pain is PALO AZUL. I used to think that Chinese herbs were the only answer for low back pain - until I discovered Palo Azul.

@@luyzqint3760 I see. You are talking about the variety of Cinnamon that is aka Spanish Cinnamon, or Canela - the kind that is most commonly available in Mexico - which is also known as Ceylon Cinnamon, or Cinnamomum zeylanicum, I presume. It is not as heating in nature as the Chinese Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia). I was aware of its stomachic and carminative benefits, as well as its benefits for lowering blood sugar as a metabolic stimulant, keeping the intestinal flora in balance, and promoting sweating to expel surface pathogens in colds and flu, but I wasn't aware of its blood thinning properties. Its antifungal and antimicrobial properties are pretty good as well, but I wasn't aware of its blood thinning properties. Thanks for the tip. Seems like it would combine well with Ginkgo Biloba, Eyebright, and other herbs that help the cerebral circulation.

The lack of politics here is the main reason I now live here. I worked on Capitol Hill for 28+ years. The biggest difference between Congress and Disney World is that Disney World has adult leadership. See ya around town. Rick Scott. I'm the one in the hat.

#1 is my #1 reason for being here! and I wouldnt say nobody is talking about it... maybe less people are talking about it right now than when we were in the middle of covid. in 2022 I was staying in Ajijic at an Air BNB that had people from the US, Canada, Germany, Denmark, Poland all staying there for the same reason and that was to escape the covid tyranny in our home countries. and we all talked about it a lot including with our Mexican hosts. unfortunately I have to fly back to Canada in a week to renew my passport. I hope I can get it done quickly and get the hell out of there before they bring in any new insanity. anyways, the level of freedom here is incredible. the police seem genuinely interested in doing their jobs... going after real crime and leaving average citizens alone to get on with their lives. none of the BS hassling people for jay walking that you can run into back in the US and Canada. I was born in Mexico in 1953 to America parents. We moved back to the US when I was 3. My US passport states I was born in Mexico. QUESTION: Why am I only allowed 90-days in Mexico when I enter? I tried to obtain a Mexican passport, but the local Mexican Consulate rejected me, as my parents dropped the second last name on all my US documents. 😟 Why is Mexico making it hard for me to move to Mexico?

    • @MovingToMexiCo

I think you do not understand how Mexicans express their politics. It is not that they are uninterested in politics. It's that they leave them out of personal conversations unless you bring them up. But many Mexicans are very passionate about politics. There are many reasons why they are not so public at all times about expressing their politics. One is that especially in the past and still in many parts of the country speaking up against certain parties, political tendencies or corrupt politicians and oligarchs could get you "disappeared." or tortured.

I lived in Bucerias for 20 years. things the author missed. An incredible explosion of condos, essentially all the original building are a tear down, by the beach, what was a local restaurant is now a waffle house or a condo, Mark's comes to mind. If you go to happy hours with Canadian or Americans present, politic will come up, there are Trumpers everywhere and they can't resist going full tilt. Pick pockets and people on motor bike will try stealing your bags as you walk on a side walk, be careful in grocery stores, lots of theft schemes there. Dental care is affordable, but what you thought was a dentist is really a student in training. If you live across the highway, which is rare for foreigners, the whole picture changes and your really living in Mexico. Charming , friendly and authentic Mexico, but you need some language skills. We moved because of over crowding and crime, which has many different faces. Real estate. 8% broker fees highest in the world. Sales people are unlicensed, anybody can sell real estate , beware!

I lived in Mexico for the better part of twenty years close to Buserias. You say many people told you the food is less GMO and more natural in Mexico. ‘Many people’ is where you base your statement,, which means this statement is completely baseless.
There is excelent fresh and natural seafood,, but the regulations on poisons are way slacker then in the states,, the amount of pesticides and chemicals in general is incredible. You can pick up a tomato in the market and litterally shake liquid pesticide drops off it that were just sprayed on it in the store.
I love Mexico,, my advise is do not start a business,, appreciate and love Mexico for many reasons but don’t try to make money in a country where people are poor and you are seen as rich. Mexicans are super street smart,, corruption is systemic. Be generous and learn the language.

I guess the primary concern with living in Mexico is going to be crime. I know some places like the Yucatan are pretty safe. But if you are a foreigner, you're alone and it shows. You have a target on your back. It's worse if you are an elderly retiree. t's not just Mexico, but all over the world. But the crime stats for Mexico are not good. I guess it depends on the town.

Have you ever visited Mexico? Before moving here I had traveled here quite often over 40 years time from the LA/Ventura area of CA. Since the early '80's I've camped and surfed on remote beaches mostly in Baja and never had any problems with crime. If you aren't into drugs or in a cartel or looking to join one and hone in on their businsses they pretty much leave you alone. They aren't out to get the average person or visitor going about their day. Crime here isn't as random it is in the US where it could happen to anyone anywhere and anytime. The well known bad areas are really easy to avoid, just don't go there! BTW- I'm hazel eyed, blond haired and definitely an older gringo! Muena suerte desde la hermosa Ensenada!

I've read many a story, which I believe by the way, of Americans buying houses down there and if a group like a drug cartel or any other gang decides they want your house it becomes a horror story. Many times the federallies won't help at all because they're stretched too thin or they're scared themselves etc. If you don't take the hint and leave bizzarre things start happening like gun shots in the night, vandalism and on and on. Yes, you will find many a person whose never been touched. It's a big country also.

Sure, here's a more casual version:
Thinking about biking from Cancun to Texas? It's a pretty epic adventure, but there are a few things to consider:
      1. It's a seriously long ride, so make sure you're in good shape and ready for a workout.
      2. The roads can be all over the place, from highways to backroads, so be ready for a variety of terrain.
      3. Don't forget about border crossing stuff - paperwork, rules, all that jazz.
      4. Keep an eye on the weather. The heat, rain, and storms can throw a wrench in your plans.
      5. Safety first! Rock that helmet, wear bright clothes, and slap on some lights to stay visible.
      6. Plan your route carefully, including stops for food, rest, and shelter.
      7. Stay street smart and look out for your stuff.
      8. Brush up on the traffic rules in Mexico and the USA.
      9. Having a support vehicle or a buddy who's got your back is never a bad idea.
In a nutshell, it's a wild ride, so do your homework, maybe chat with some seasoned riders, and think about a trial run before you go all-in on this adventure. Stay safe out there! 🚴‍♂️🌞🌮🤠

I’ve done a lot of rides.
All across Australia, China, India and the USA.
I’m mainly concerned with the narcos or cartels. I worked with Mexicans in Los Angeles for years and they said if u look poor on a bicycle, they will leave u alone. I have a beard and a backpack. I look poor. I met a white guy who walked across Mex. He said if u wear long pants, they think u are just going to work on a bike. LoL. He said he had no problem

@@MovingToMexiCo I would also add. Don't ride at night because of the wildlife on the roadways and lack of lighting.
