  • Reverse breathing is an important practice in Qi Gong and Martial Arts. Here we see how it is studied in Shaolin Da Hong Quan, both as a martial technique and as a particular emission of a sound. The application of this section to self-defense is also interesting.

    Very interesting and a complex topic. You are actually using the side of the triceps to protect your core which is very smart. By the way keep doing your videos, you are actually getting fitter, prove positive that it is always possible. Cheers

      Hi Peter, I'm feeling better because I recently had health problems again. My way of responding is to practice our arts even more, not only as a teacher, but more importantly for myself. Because if practiced with balance (acting young when you are not can be dangerous) these arts are also medicine. At least for me or always have been.

      Certo!

    That is Xiao Hong Quan, not Da hong. Either way, in tao lu performance, there is no time/pause for belly breathing as in qi gong, so all the breathing that is done in tao lu is reverse breathing. Nothing new.

      This is precisely part of Da Hong Quan as we learned it at the temple in 1988 from master Lian Yi Quan and his students. Back then many things were different from how they are done today. I will publish many documents about it. We were there (me and other Italians)

      @@DanteBasili I know that the lao jia Hong quan is also refered to as da Hong quan, which makes sense, since the frame is long, Da. But that form has become the common xiao Hong that is known today, that is what I meant because the similarities are obvious in these two forms. The other common Da Hong Quan is also old, so if there were in reality more than one at the same time, that can only mean one from different abbeys, which might be possible. But if that is true, where is the xiao Hong pertaining to each lineage?

    • @DanteBasili
      @DanteBasili  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      In the eighties, at the Shaolin temple in Henan, there was only one Da Hong Quan and only one Xiao Hong Quan, very distinct and different from each other, even if part of the same technical "family". While Xiao Hong was widely spread in the temple, Da Hong was instead passed down from the family of master Liang Yiquan. This is what we experienced, practiced and saw for ourselves...
