If ever a tutorial cried out for a close-up, it was this one.

    A fellow lefty! :D
You really have a really cool drawing style. I like that the most impact of the drawing doesn't come from colour/grey but from line thickness and the contrast of black and white "spaces".
thank you for showing us how you work. :)

Hey Justin! Thanks for this video, it's great to learn this stuff. (I'm just starting a webcomic now myself.) One question: why do you use Copic multiliners? I found that they take forever to dry, so I use Microns, which dry very fast.

+Max and Maury I reached out to Justin to get his feedback on the different brands. He mostly uses the Copic markers because they are refillable, but he also enjoys Microns. He feels both are solid products.

I notice that Justin is using paper from a spiral bound book. I'm curious as to what it is. I know a lot of comics are done on Bristol board.

I have been really bad about producing videos for some time, but I will keep this topic in consideration for the next video.

One thing I've had problems with in making comic characters is drawing a consistent look for the character in different positions. Like if the character is facing forward he/she would look one way but way of if they were turned to the left. Can you help with that.

Two things that might really help you are creating a character design sheet for each of your characters and doing lots of life drawing.
A character design sheet is used to keep graphical continuity as you move from panel to panel. I highly recommend honing many different angles of each character until they are just right and then transferring those drawings onto your character design sheet. Once you have your sheet, you can use that as reference for all other drawings of that character.
Life drawing is the absolute best way to understand how the human form looks as moves. Referencing real life is the only way to learn how to properly draw proportions because your brain will play tricks on you and your art will suffer for it.

What song was that playing throughout the music parts? Its giving me mad deja vu.

I don't recall the name of it, but it's one of the TH-cam Audio Library tracks. It reminded me of songs off the American Beauty soundtrack.

Do you scan your pages into the computer to finish the rest of the coloring???

I cannot recall if Justin scanned these specific pages, but he does often scan his sketches to finish them in Adobe Illustrator.

what are the best/good inks for brush inking?

    • @LastingImpressionArt
      @LastingImpressionArt  9 ปีที่แล้ว

Melbin Binu India ink is the traditional ink used for comics. Speedball and Higgins are great brands.

I actually use Precise V pens on comic art board. I hate using actual inking pens, I'd rather go to a dept store and get my materials besides the paper for dirt cheap. I can't justify spending 4 bucks on a waterproof pen at Michael's or Hobby Lobby when both types are gonna smear.
