Her rant about doing the bare minimum at work really hits home. As someone who was doing the work of 2 people because I was good at my job, guess what I got from it? Laid off.. (this also happened like 2.5 weeks ago, so it's still fresh). Being Brittany's age, to anyone who is younger, please listen to her lol
Came to the comments to say something similar! I'm currently at a job where I'm doing the work of 2 people and also doing work that nobody else at my job can do, at a pay rate even cheaper than the last woman that was doing it and also doing more than she was. All the while my boss continues to give me extra assignments and projects to work on without the help or support of anyone else. While also accommodating the men who are weaponizing incompetence at a significantly higher pay than me. I keep getting the carrot of a promotion with a raise dangled in front of me, but I doubt it's gonna be what I would even want. At this point, I have to make my peace with it because I have to pay my bills I literally don't have any other options except to be homeless again, and just continue skilling up, and just hope that putting all of it on my resume will get me somewhere better Tldr; LISTEN TO BRITTANY don't work as hard as you can, do the bare minimum, and if you have support from friends or family NEVER put up with a toxic work environment, leave first and figure out the rest later
Bestie! What if Ella from Ella Enchanted was driving and listening to this podcast and you told her to unbuckle her seatbelt and close her eyes?! She’d be dead now. RIP ELLA
I like to imagine that as citizens of Broskination we are forced to watch our dictator report on the news every single day against our will with armed guards watching the streets for people who skip the weekly report. Also WELCOME NON-BINARY PEOPLE AHHH❤
I have been squatting in Broski Nation for about 17 months and 43 days (as a non-binary person) I ripped a hole in the plasterboard and have been shitting in there and storing nuts, so its nice to finally meet you guys
I just read the bell jar this last summer and I’ve never before felt so seen not only as a woman but as someone who struggles with their mental health. She described so perfectly what it is like to be inside your own head like that. Absolutely incredible and she deserved better resources than she had and it’s just devastating she had to go.
dom fike has been my fav musician (and the father of my imagined children) since his first EP came out & it makes me so happy to see him get the recognition he deserves
I love waking up in the morning to listen to the broski report with my coffee in hand like an old man listening to the news report. Then going to take my morning shit midway so I can contemplate what era I belong in.
when brittany really starts slipping into that southern drawl i could just curl up and close my eyes and nap this podcast is the best comfort for my little southern upbringing heart. chaos and everything!! love this podcast so much
When I read the Bell Jar I was shocked how deeply related to something written that long. It made me so sad, but at the same time it made me feel less alone and isolated in my mental health struggles. I love that book deeply and Sylvia’s tragic story adds to the weight of it. Also, the stealing company time rant was a total work of art 🤌
The Bell Jar is the book that got me back into reading as an adult (and also kind of sent me spiraling into my own deep depression but worth it?) The analogy she uses of sitting in a fig tree and not being able to pick which fruit to eat first, so she simply tries none… was the most understood I’ve ever felt. Ugggh so good, go fing read it if u haven’t but be ready. ❤️
These days it’s only been sad news and people around me going through sad things and I feel the weight of that. I’ve come here in bits for some fresh air and I always find myself giggling and thinking positively again afterwards, so thank you❤️
I appreciate the real talk about corporate work environments. I’m a teacher and I’m always telling kids to get a job with tips because minimum wage is a joke!
loving the part about working less and setting boundaries because its SO important. ive learned this the hard way! its difficult especially if youre a people pleaser but PLEASE put yor mental health first. you dont owe your job anything other than doing what you are hired for, and they are not entitled to your free time! it gets tricky when you actually like the people you work with but there still needs to be a hard line
I definitely see Brittany in the Renaissance Era working at the tavern as a bartender yelling at loud drunk men to shut the F up while she talks nonstop about the most random topics to men who are drunk and dissociating. 😂
The Bell Jar is Plath’s only novel! It is fantastic though and I wish she was still around to see how many people relate to her and how she was not alone in the way she was feeling. As a side note, an English professor I had had a theory that all of her work was set in a post-apocalyptic landscape as a response to the cold war tensions of her era
The Bell Jar is SOOOO GOOOOOOD. It’s very sad but such an excellent, self reflective read. I cried when I realized the narrator is myself just as much as it is Sylvia
I worked customer service for a Life Insurance company and I have never related to Britney so much!! When she talked about how corporate jobs suck your soul and leave you exhausted and empty. First "influancer" I have ever been able to truly and deeply personally relate to.
Sylvia Plath had a big impact me as a teenager. Her journals are also incredible for the reasons you talked about. As to reading her poetry, it is really good, but just heads up there are some of the kinds of biases of that time period present in some of her work. She wasn’t immune to the prejudices of the culture she lived in so just like be prepared to put some of her poetry in that context. Worth the read though, for sure.
Sylvia Plath's poems 'Ariel' and 'Medusa' are always something I return to. Amazing poems that just speak to me like nothing else. Love Plath coming into the Broski verse!!!!
I've always loved The Bell Jar 😭 such an accurate and deeply emotionally potent representation of depression that was strikingly similar to my own thought patterns.
absolutely loved the sylvia plath thoughts at the end! iM a literature major and that’s my favorite part about reading, seeing myself in the pages of someone else who feels the exact same! love the podcast 🤍
This podcast is exactly what I need into my work rotation. Sometimes I just want someone talking at me…and this is exactly that. I don’t need a fully planned out narrative experience. I need this!
I’m 33 and not an influencer and went to Coachella weekend 2 VIP and it was one of the most fun weekends I’ve had in a long time! Go weekend 2 if you want to avoid the LA scene.
Brilliant as always!! Funny, insightful, real/raw, relatable, informative, entertaining. You are just the complete package and I love you and your work!!!
Your talk about doing the bare minimum at a company while at college age really resonated with me. I’d love more job advice because I work at big green book store and work and care way too much about this corporation that doesn’t care about me. It’s been a real conundrum, and you putting it into simple terms really helped lay it out for me. Thank you ma ma’am
The era of dress I gravitate to is pinup, 40's/50's, and I think my facial features are highlighted, especially when I do the hair and red lips! When you did that 20's look, I thought that really suited you! You definitely have that "vamp" look that was popular.
I always feel so seen by Brittany. I’m going to see my favorite band this fall and I WILL be on the ground, uncontrollably frothing at the mouth for the attractive, talented men
GIRL I loved your Customer Service monologue. I work at a Veterinary Hospital at the front desk and the treatment from clients and my boss is ASS yet I still keep a smile on my face and use my Snowwhite voice 😂
i love this podcast thats actually a tv show thats actually an snl sketch thats actually just brittany talking to herself for 45 mins like she's in her kitchen and its midnight
Agreed. Do the bare minimum but then ask yourself if that’s what u want for your life. And set new goals to achieve… but you own it to yourself to go for what you love
i genuinely love when you talk about books - if u want more of plath i highly recommend three martini afternoons at the ritz which is about plath and her friend anne sexton (another poet!)
Hell yeah Summerfest shout out! Fr it’s an amazing festival. Literally you buy one ticket to enter the grounds and there are like 20+ free stages all throughout with new groups playing every two hours until midnight. Each stage has a genre and theme. It also lasts for two weeks. You can also get an additional ticket to see really big artists in a huge stadium. If you’re ever in the Milwaukee area during summer check it out!
Though I am a gay man, which I believe is a huge portion of the Broski Nation, I really don't share many common interests with Brittany other than being a huge fan of stuff (in my case, mostly anime and games). But through VCG and this podcast, I have discovered that I can listen to this woman talk about pretty much anything and be entertained 😂 .
I’m so glad you brought up how hard it is to talk to grandmas from that time. Both of my grandmas are the same way and I have no idea how to deal with it so I just can’t bring it up anymore. They are very chauvinistic and believe women are alive to serve. Makes me wanna diiiiiie
I really enjoyed when you were talking about Sylvia Plath and what her writings did for you. I like it when you get serious and talk about issues. You have a lot to say and I think it’s important. ❤️
Girl I agree with you of trying to do the bare minimum when first getting hired, I’m a college student working 40 hours in 4 days with no breaks lmaooo

I love when Brittany talks about literature and art. Her wording is fantastic and she’s so intelligent outside of her funny self.
Her Spanish is perfect too I bet she has Latino audience bc of that bc she’s from TX , she’s like Kelly Clarkson white but better bc she speaks Spanish, love that ❤😂
Yes. Genuinely it makes her so attractive I don’t even think she realizes how bright she is.
Brittany and Kurtis were built for solo podcasts just goofin with themselves
Who's Kurtis? I'm always looking for new podcasts/youtubers with Brittany's energy 😊😊😊

don’t worry master i am indeed watching the rest of this on company time!!
