  • Departure from the normal tape uploads- found this one on Archive.org. Who knows how long it'll be up for so I figured I'd upload it here. Rogan talks about the UFC near the start of his career with them. This is his only appearance on Conan's show.

      How many times do you want to hear him tell the same 10 stories for 3 hours. About how his dog made friends with a coyote and ate all the chicken. How a bear ate his dog in Colorado. How weed should be legal. How testosterone is raised by cold plunges and sauna. How our taints are getting smaller because we eat plastic Etc.

      @Mirici1 I'm not a huge Rogan fan, maybe listened to a dozen of his podcasts, seen a decent amount of clips on TH-cam, but I've never heard him talk about one of those topics before. Seems a little reductive to sum up his entire persona into a few stories he likes to tell. That being said, Rogan isn't even the interesting part of his podcast. It's the huge variety of smart and interesting people he's able to get on a regular basis that makes him worth listening to.

      @JohnDoe-uq2qd hes not far off the truth. He has the same way to answer particular questions or topics that will trigger the same stories. I think thats because he makes his pods too long and he cn only talk for so long without talking about hunting, drugs, fighting, the covid vax, or aliens.

    Joe massively helped the UFC (and MMA in general) become mainstream because he had an excellent knowledge of the history of MMA, and he used to be a phenomenal TKD champion. But what made him special is he took the time to explain to people who didn't know what was happening during the fight. Especially the ground game. He would break down the moves, what each fighter was trying to do, etc. He helped educate new people on how the sport was going and helped the fans appreciate the disciplines' nuances.
    Thankfully, he knew enough about wrestling, boxing, Karate, jiu-jitsu, judo, and many other disciplines so new people could understand what they were watching.
    He really had a lot to do with growing the sport, and the best part is that he wasn't just a color man; he is an enormous MMA fan, and that was quickly picked up when he called fights.
    It's going to be a shame when he retires.

    • @caryd67
      @caryd67 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      “when he retires”
      f*ck, I never even thought of that… me and him are just one month apart in age, and I’m definitely thinking about retirement.. but I’m sure he’s in a far better position to do so than I 😂

    • @fastnoc
      @fastnoc ปีที่แล้ว +30

      @@caryd67 yep. He already slowed way down on how many events he goes to. Back in the day, he went to every single event. It was rare to see him missing. Now, he mostly does PPVs and sometimes not even those.
      As for retirement, that's coming sooner rather than later. Joe is filthy rich. He sold his podcast to Spotify for 200m, not the 100m everyone hears. So, that alone set him up for life. Plus, he's had money for a long time anyway. He must be wise with what he budgeted because I was friends with him in the 90s, and we used to be on the same Quake III Arena team. We'd meet up for LAN parties frequently. Even back then, he had a bank. Hosting Fear Factor also made him bank, plus he was already a cast member on New Radio back in the day. Not to mention his stand-up comedy career. That dude is set for success. Then remember, he does get paid well to do the UFC color man stuff. Money hasn't been an issue for him in decades, and he deserves all his success. Oh, one last thing. He built his own comedy club in Austin (Comedy Mothership), and all the comics love how he treats and pays them.
      I'll also say as a friend, he was as down-to-earth as he could be. It wasn't like hanging around with a celebrity; he is just another guy. Exactly like he is on his podcast. He was easy to talk to, extremely generous, and always in a good mood.
      He's a good guy all around.

    What I love about Joe in his early days is when discussing MMA he never exaggerated or used hyperbole to make it sound EXTREME. Instead he kept things grounded, emphasized the technical aspects of the sport and the fighting intelligence of the men competing, it was the perfect way to sell the sport to the uninitiated and helped combat the overall stigma the sport had by the boxers and politicians when the voice for the sport comes off as a regular guy who's really into something and can answer questions about it in a relatively calm and intelligent manner

    Joe's nature to be real, humorous and with a genuine perspective makes him likable, admirable, and a true friend to those who are that fortunate to be in his circle.

    There is no way that Conan could have comprehended in this moment that this dude was eventually going to sit in a garage and then destroy him and every other late night host in the ratings so badly that their industry would collapse.

      No, nobody needs a podcast with Conan, except Conan himself.

    Only clicked on this cuz the thumb had Enrique Inglesias but the title says Joe Rogan. It's Joe Rogan. It's hilarious.
