Judging by the sound under load and seeing how the trimmer cut through some relatively thick grasses that machine seems to be just as good as a gas trimmer.
Thanks Workshopaddict, nice review. Been wanting the M18 quick lok trimmer, guess I'll go for this one! The nice thing about this one is it's still as powerful as bigger or heavier battery trimmers but this is lighter cause the battery is smaller. Referring to ego and 40v+ trimmers
I wonder if it will have overheating issues? I love the old one except it would overheat and leave me out of commission. I would have to wait over an hour for it to work again. I don't live in a hot climate.
I’ve been using the Ryobi 40v expand it weed whacker, pole saw, etc and it’s amazing. Not sure I’d switch as I would imagine the Ryobi has a bit more power at 40v.
They work ok but Their warranty is trash, I have a stick vac broken and on site it says I’m not able to file a claim and then also have a twisted flex shaft on the extension tube of the pole saw, Filed a claim on their site, took pics, shipped it in and They shipped it back broken just as it was😂, didnt even touch the motherfucker. That’s twice now they may Get it back to you within two weeks but what good is that if it’s still broken
@ yeah, guess I’ve had good luck with mine. It’s been going on a couple years no issue and I use it around my 5 acres. I even got the metal blade head for use with heavy brush and vines and the thing just works and works. Time will tell but the instant on is a huge plus!
@@WorkshopAddict oh yeah, no doubt probably a newer motor than what’s in my Ryobi, but I’m still pretty darn impressed with the green tool. And don’t get me wrong I have green and red tools, so not just a Ryobi fan boy hahaha 😂
nice video,I I have another brand string trimmer,is proyama from Amazon. This unit has plenty of power. Large gas tank. Easy to put together. It obviously it fairly heavy, but that is to be expected with a motor this large. it has a great quality feel . Runs like a champ.
I’ve had the Milwaukee gen1 with the 8 ah battery, that I run on low most of the time, and I run it for around an hour and I have yet tohave the battery go dead. I’ve had Milwaukee tools for years, but the first time I was disappointed , was in the runtime on their M18leaf blower run time.
I've spent quite a bit of time on the gen 1 model.....I trim guard less and it really didn't allow any extra stick out. I think it had the power but the programming just wouldn't let it happen. I trimmed with the gen 2 today....ran through about four 8 ah batteries, both forge and regular. Power is better and more importantly it allows for extra stick out across all power settings. Really a fine new offering from Milwaukee and really pushes hard against the excellent gen 2 Ego commercial trimmer I consider my main trimmer now. May very well replace it since Ego batteries are complete trash.
I am curious how this handles the broom and paddle attachments as the current generation however works you can hear that it struggles. I do wish they made the dual battery quik-lok as I want a head that will handle the more power hungry attachments that I have. I agree the Gen1 for trimming was great and I never had issues and it replaced my gasser for small to medium jobs, but if I got a lot of trimming to do I still reach for my gasser as it simply last longer.
Seems powerful, but the run times are a joke. Milwaukee says the 12ah forge will run it for 20 minutes. 8ah for 15. So if its just for doing your own yard and its not large, then it can make sense. Would cost a small fortune to have enough batteries to last a day. **edit, those run times are for the string trimmer. Love it with the polesaw, edger and hedge trimmer.
Used a 12Ah forge on fast mode, used about 25% of the battery in about an hour, admittedly however, there was no need to fully squeeze the trigger the whole time as there's more power than needed 😅, i love it
If it’s the same as a tank of gas then it’s not really an issue. Yeah it’s higher to get in but long term you save $ and battery over gas is more comfortable and ease. Also to me, I have carpel tunnel and less vibrations helps a lot. I cut trees professionally and use milwaukees chainsaws and polesaws. Rotate between 4 forge 8.0 batteries and have a new supercharger on standby if I need. My last climb, I used 1.5 8.0 forges in a day. I plan to get this model as another pole saw/hedge trimmer. Also can use around the house for weeds
How do you compare this to the Dewalt 60v attachment capable trimmer? Trying to decide between the two. Batteries are not an issue I have what I’d need for either
Is it more powerfull than the dual battery , i will upgrade to this one once it will be available in my region the other one overheated after couple minutes the wires have melt inside
IMHO, the dual battery is STUPID POWERFUL! The dual battery will go from an idle to full throttle in Miscanthus Grass and not flinch. More power than one needs. I do not say that often if ever. I would love that power with less weight. This new 3016 has very similar power, but it is not quite there and I assume the runtime will suffer slightly also. If I had to choose between the dual battery and the 3016, I would choose the 3016 due to the weight and how close it is in power.

@@WorkshopAddictThe Dewalt has a slight bit more power than the dual Milwaukee or just this new single? Also dewalt is coming out with a new dedicated 60v trimmer with a bike handle.
When they come out with the DUEL BATTERY one I will get it just need it BARE TOOL ALREADY have all 3 FORGE BATTERIES then I can SELL my RYOBI 40 volt whisper series one that I just got back in 2022

I absolutely love my older m18 quick lok. I’m definitely gonna have to check this one out.

Time to buy this one and return the old model. Maybe this one with overheat all the time
I would put this up against the Ryobi 40V and I believe it would out perform it. Better motor in here IMHO.

Still running the DeWalt 60v powerhead. Have not had to switch back to the old gas trimmer for lack of power.

Is the coupler retention key that comes with the cultivator needed with the new power head?

You should test them against each other with the pole, saw attachment!!
I wonder how this compares to the Dewalt DCST972 in power and run time.
is the trigger more variable speed compared to the first gen? thats one of the main reasons i prefer the Dewalt 60v power head
