      My dog does the same! He LOVES eating scrambled eggs (yes, dogs can have eggs, 1-2 eggs a week keeps them healthy, 2-3 for big dogs), so when we're cooking or eating eggs he always gives us the "are you going to eat that" look.

    Interesting.
    When you're brought up with dogs from a young age, you tend to be able to read most of these signs without thinking about it, and thus have a great understanding of what your dog is feeling most of the time. Stress in a dog can also result in them chewing your hands or fingers. This is a great stress release for them, and should not be discouraged if you can bear it. If you can't bear it, tug of war with a tough rubber toy is also a good stress release.
    But ultimately, a stressed dog generally means they are not getting enough exercise, especially where larger dogs are concerned. They may act out this stress by misbehaving, or sitting on the couch and refusing to move when you ask them to. Just be aware that dogs have much more physical stamina than humans, and need to let off steam to relax. So plenty walks and exercise, which is also good for the owner, and strengthens your bond with your dog.
    And when it comes to feeding, give them two half size meals a day, instead of one big meal. And only use treats as rewards. Also make sure they have access to plenty fresh water, and shade from the sun on hot days, as dogs can easily overheat, and the only way they can cool down is by panting. They do not sweat like humans do.
    Also, do not shout at, or mistreat your dog, 'for they know not what they do ' most of the time.
    Set boundaries, but be firm and calm when teaching them.
    And don't get a dog that can easily overpower you, as they will feel like they have to dominate you.
    If you remember these points, and the points in this video, you will have a good relationship with your dog, and your dog will be happy, grounded, calm, and content, but above all, loyal to you.

      Herman Munster, many good points. As for not getting a dog that can overpower you, for a small person like myself I'd be left with Chihuahuas, lol. The dog's temperament and our effort to train the dog are key. I've only had big dogs ranging from 80-100 lbs and they've all been gentle. My new dog is a young adult Great Pyrenees from a shelter, and in less than a month he's gone from a hyper, mouthy brat to a sweet, giant rug. As you said though, he needs at least 4-5 miles of walks per day, plus we do training several times a day. Dogs don't show up knowing how to behave in a home with humans, as you pointed out. It's a lot of work to teach them, but so worth it.

    • @hermanmunster3358
      @hermanmunster3358 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@drkatel If you're used to having dogs, then you will know how to be their pack leader, and the dog will respect you for that.
      My comment about large dogs was aimed at inexperienced owners, who's dogs often end up in shelters, or sold in classified ads because the owner doesn't know how to handle them.
      But you obviously have the required experience, or are lucky to have a dog that is a total angel. 👍

    Can we talk about how people think "whale eye" (when dogs look sideways out of their eye) is funny? Yet it's been universally shown to be a behavior only exhibited when the dog is utterly terrified. People do this to their dog for internet memes and to laugh at the funny face, and it roughly amounts to torture.

      Yea! For the longest time i didn't know cats would purr out of anxiety as well, none of my previous cats ever shown other anxiety signals while purring, relaxed muscles and soft eyes always cueing happiness. Then i got a male black cat and he does an anxious purr as well. Never met a cat that did that before, he purred when en route to vet and during storms and body language made it clear he was nervous. He is also a scaredy cat despite being the most muscular built cat I've ever known, lmao.

      @lettybabesify 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Cats are a bit harder to read but the main things to look at are whether it's normal behaviour has changed. For example one of my cats is an extremely nervous cat and she always shows different anxieties differently. I can tell by her mewls when she is stressed and when she is fine. For my other cats things like pacing, hiding, not eating or not wanting to interact with humans as much as normal can tell me how they are feeling. Cats ears can tell a story but you have to assess their behaviour as a whole because they struggle to communicate with humans as easily as dogs do. How are your kitties behaving and is it close to how they usually behave? If not what parts of their behaviour is causing concern?

    She will lay down a my chest and get right up in my face and slightly nudge my chin and won’t get out of my face, or she’ll bark and spin around in circles.
    Also, i can tell if she sees a squirrel or another dog or even a rabbit just by her tone of bark. Different bark for each.
    If you pay attention to the details of your dogs subtle actions and reactions we can learn a lot.

    My two dogs are both really old my one dog likes to be alone and just sleep but sometimes she gets really excited and happy and wants to snuggle the other is sometimes anxious and sometimes happy she also waddles a lot when she’s happy so idk if that has anything to do with happiness or if she is just a weird dog... love you dodo

    My dog moved out(I have dog door) a week ago and no research could say anything other then he’s old(15yrs) and probably dying and wants colder area to rest. It drove me crazy and I spent all night going thru things that may have caused it and ding ding -an old smoke detector I didn’t even know had a battery in it was going off every once in a while. 3am I got a ladder and removed battery and 2-3 hrs later he came in and hasn’t left, (except last night when a video I was watching had one in background going off)!! No clue it would do this because others have gone off before and never noticed a difference but never let them go off for more then a few mins.

    The secret to know what my dogs feel is quite simple: is knowing my dogs. I don’t need to look at their ears, or tail or right front paw, all I need is to see/feel their mood. It’s something every good owner does without even thinking about it.

  • @Haferkoko
    @Haferkoko 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think most tail wags can be categorized as excitement.
    I learned if the tail is up the dog is in good mood, if it’s down, not so much.

    Many dogs I approach mostly do two things, lay down and show their belly or run in circles and 'bow'.
    A neighbor got a staffy pup and when I went to say hello he turned into a fountain. Ending with piss belly scratches.
    Another random Ridgeback female I met at the park first bowed, charged and jumped at me. She was about to do it again but hey owner wasn't comfortable and stopped her.
