Warlord have clarified the question on rifle platoons: a single rifle platoon allows 1 of every other platoon to be added, 2 allow 2 of everything and so on.

    • @johng859
      @johng859 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

There's a Facebook group that Warlord chimed in on.
      From Warlord Games
      "So for absolute clarity:
If you have one Rifle Platoon - you may then add one Engineer Platoon, one Heavy Weapons Platoon, one Armoured Platoon, one Artillery Platoon, and one Recce Infantry Platoon, or any combination thereof.
If, as an example, you want to have two Engineer Platoons, then you must have at least two Rifle Platoons.
Hope this clears it up - no further statements at this time from us (you'll have to wait for the next article 😉)!"

@@johng859 And how many points something like that is going to cost? Because one SS platoon with 4 squads of 10 men and an officer will cost as much as 845 pts. and they are talking about multiple platoons? I hope Warlord is not turning Bolt Action into Bolt Hammer.

The speculation on spamming stuff is mostly an over reaction. Think about it, if you take 10 mortars, that along with the 2 officers is presumably going to be around 700 points. In that case you had better hope that those mortars absolutely devastate the enemy because if they don't you lose. Think about it, if those mortars do not absolutely devastate the enemy then it becomes 300 vs 1000 and the enemy infantry just needs to close the distance to make those mortars not only worthless but also vulnerable.
I think the platoons are kind of built towards the possibility of building larger scale company sized games and or team games.
For normal sized games it sacrifices too much to go all in on any of the platoons and I see people taking a little bit from each, thus the armies at the end of the day won't be all that different from old reinforced platoon but with more flexibility at the cost of a tax and organization.

@@anthonysauls1446 An excellent and measured perspective! I'm sure you are right for the most part. Although undoubtedly some crazy and effective lists will emerge as people work out what they can pull off! That will be part of the fun though, seeing how far we can push the envelope! :)

@@scholaprogenium7276 I most certainly can see people doing stuff like 10 mortars just for fun or like you said to try it out. I personally see double 88s being a nice little build. Assuming points, rules, and stats are the same or similar (which who knows), then for about 390 points you get 2 super heavy anti tank guns / medium howitzer / AA platforms with a 2nd Lt (that, if the orders rule and German national characteristics are the same or similar, can order them both to act as once)

Whoa! I have some mixed feelings about this, since my first impression was that I have to buy more figures in order to play 3rd edition (more mortars, more mmg's if they become playable, more flamers, more anti-tank weaponry...). Of course as a penny-pincher I will find a way to play my existing armies as they are or with only small tweaks. There is the possibility of 3d-printing, but I like my armies to be consistent in their looks.
e will see what the final judgement will be when the book releases. If worse comes to worst, I just stick by 2nd edition with my friends.
Just hoping the games don't get bogged down and drawn, I like my Bolt Action brisk-paced.

I know what the engineers rule does. It was in a spoiler from the rulebook. It basically allows them to ignore the defensive position bonus while assaulting buildings. It also gives them an advantage against mines and with fortifications. It doesn't explain exactly what these advantages will be, but I assume the minefield interaction will be similar to how it was before (making it easier to roll to safely clear mines). No idea what the bonus with/against fortifications will be. There is also another rule for infiltrators, which I find even more interesting.

You can read the engineer rule on the pictures on the pre order as well as other rules, you’ve just got to zoom in. None of this means anything until we see points I’m hoping the game doesn’t become rock paper scissors. However I know the chaps at warlord are genuine in their love for bolt action, the game is nine years (ish) old at this point, perhaps they don't want to take their players for granted and want to bring their system up to date for the growing community!?

There might be limits on platoons by country or faction. Assuming they are trying to make this somewhat realistic then we can assume they might limit a army list for the US to 5 platoons for example 1 HQ, 1 Weapons platoon and 3 rifle platoons. Armoured companies didnt have rifle platoons so I dont know where they are going with this honestly.
