2014 Ford Fusion Coolant Leak

We dive in to diagnosis a coolant leak in a 2014 Ford Fusion SE. In this case, the culprit was a leaking thermostat seal. We were able to use a pressure tester in order to locate the leak and remove the housing to change the seal. We recommend changing the full assembly if you have this same problem as the part is fairly inexpensive and is good preventative maintenance.

I had the exact same problem with my 2013 Fusion 2.0L ecoboost. The gasket had the same problem as yours and cost just under $3 US. It is easier to just drain the whole system. There is a red 1/4 turn drain on the drivers side of the radiator bottom hidden by the black plastic front cover.
Still trying to find out, why mine keep coming out still every 3 days and there’s no leak they say
Thanx for the video guy... I didn't know it had a skid plate underneath there. It isn't my car it's hers but know I know what to look for and what to expect changing that housing out or simply the gasket and how to tell the difference in the replacement housing. Good job my man .

I am noticing the coolant line in the reservoir very slowly dropping, but I don't see any leaks in the engine bay. One thing that I did noticed not too long ago was a burning plastic smell whenever I would turn on the heater. And that correlates with the time around when the coolant began to mysteriously disappear. Some say it's the heater core, but I have to find out where it's located to check. I also checked the engine oil and the level has remained the same and there's no sign that the coolant is going into the engine. The transmission shifts as it always has, so I seriously doubt the coolant is leaking into the transmission. Since I haven't noticed any change in the car's performance, I am not super worried...but I want to find and fix the leak without breaking my piggy bank.
What’s the circle black thing with screws in it right below the timing belt I think. My car is leaking from right inside of that

Could be that. Or in my case it's a water pump issue if your pully is slightly off center compared to the rest then it's definitely the water pump. Good luck!

Coolant level should not drop. If it does, there is a leak somewhere.

Sounds like a headgasket and if so, replacing a radiator is the least of worries it will do nothing. Google it
How do you know that it is antifreeze and not just condensation collecting in the muffler? Are you loosing coolant?

How did you bleed the system when you refilled with coolant? Ford makuloco makes it seem like you need to venturi vacuum fill the thing since there is no bleed screw
Never lol. Make sure the front of the car is up higher than the rear. Keep yhe over flow tank cap off. Take off the small threaded cap from the black hardline and fill there. Run with both caps off with heater running full blast. Keep an eye on teml gauge. Shut off if starts to overheat. But keep topping off system if the system burps and shows it need more coolant.
I bet its at the coolant hose junction block. Just replace mine now the shop

Every car make is setup different. Some might just be installed into big rubber black coolant hose lines.

That sounds like the infamous couldn't intrusion problem that these cars are known for. Not a good sign at all.
Can a coolant leak cause harsh shifts?
It can cause it to drive rough if the leak has gotten into a cylinder and will eventually throw a misfire code
To answer your question that would be a hard no. It is unrelated to transmissions.
Simply Garbage is the Ford brand. Super poor design no longer made.

Hey Wayne, if your coolant is low enough and not circulating through the engine properly, that could cause the engine temperature to rise. But you would need to know more about the problems and run some test to make sure it is the actual problem.
On my Ford Edge has the 2.0 liter ecoboost engine in it? And my light didn't turn on but I knew something was wrong. When my keep didn't work. I looked at my coolant reservoir and it's completely empty. And soon as you hit. Little bit high RPMs for about 15/22 seconds you'll see your coolant guage in your car go higher and higher until they hit the light to the turns on.

Wayne, I have a 2013 Ford Fusion. My “engine coolant over temperature light” came on-but it was only when the reservoir was bone dry. It was kinda scary. I ended up having a leak somewhere
Unbelievably un-mechanical. You do realize you dumped coolant all over the radiator right? Ever heard of a radiator drain pecock? What is up must go down in the system via gravity.
