    Most people won't understand the importance of this video or this jataka. But I do. Among the five precepts, there is one which says, to restrain from sexual misconduct. This precept also include the restraining of falling in love with a married man or a woman i.e. not to have intimate relation with another person after marriage. This jataka highlights so.

    i see a lot of people chalking this story as an expression of misogyny, i disagree. this story i think is simply trying to say that love is a distraction from your suffering and has a tendency to be unhealthy. especially with the wrong person. the inability to let go will cause you more suffering. regardless of gender.

    Where is the teaching that if you fall for a treacherous woman it is because of your own karma. Buddhism teaches that no-thing and no-one has a nature by it self. Nobody can experience someone as treacherous if the did not create the karma to experience this.

      This also causes Mahayana to be more acceptable than Theravada in some countries, world statistic also shows both Mahayana and Tantrayana have greater number of followers than Theravada. Perhaps because of this misconception about women.

    • @nsjayathilaka212
      @nsjayathilaka212 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Then you have not understood the story properly! If ALL women are vile then what about princess Yasodhara? It means that women can easily tempt a man into sin, sometimes even without realizing it themselves. Therefore, one should be careful not to be tempted. It is not "problematic", it isn't bashing women, because a woman's body has evolved to be desirable to a man, a woman can be treacherous. It's not a woman's fault for possessing such a body.

    • @arkadeepbhattacharya3024
      @arkadeepbhattacharya3024 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nsjayathilaka212 It is bashing women. One can't be treacherous and innocent at the same time. " Tempting w/o knowing " u said! Yes that's possible. But as long as she upholds loyalty, treacherous can't be the word that describes them; far from it, in fact quite opposite!

    This story degrades the women of high and noble qualities altogether.
    Women herself is totally associated with evil qualities
    No respect for her.
    How can this be an enlightening story?
    Just like some women are treacherous and ungrateful
    There are men like that too..
    I wonder did the enlightened one give such baised talks?
    Then that must not be called an enlightened one..i feel the story is changed to suit the taste of patriarchy.
    I remember another story where Buddha talked in a neutral way. When a prostitute was blamed all alone and seen as evil for society. Buddha said when we clap two hands only..sound would come..he pointed out the flaw of men who went to the prostitute who are not ashamed to blame only the prostitute.
    Such is the enlightening story not this.
    It may cultivate negatives thoughts about women among men..and may create tension in the society.
    Buddha would definitely not want it.
    All the other things are fine except the portrayal of women itself means evil.
    And i feel so bad that nobody talked abt this in the comment section

      If all woman was innately treacherous and evil, then everyone one who came in contact with them would have hate them..But since it's not like that..If I like someone it doesn't necessarily mean everyone will like them... If I hate someone that doesn't necessarily mean everyone will hate them.. Gautama Buddha taught all sentient beings have buddha nature which is pure and perfect, it's their ignorance that they don't recognize this pure nature of themselves.
      Once we realize it experientially we will see everyone is Buddha..
      To attain ultimate enlightenment one must go beyond any dualistic notions.
      Buddhism also teach us that one must always remember and take care one's mother and father, it will be cruel to leave them suffer in this samsara and just free oneself, one must realize the unconditional love of one's mother..And only by freeing them from this cyclic existence one can repay their kindness..

Some of the statements are lost in translation these stories were orally recited for 500-600 years and than written down 2000 years back or so.
