I've got my bench grinder on something like that. It works really well. My big Record engineer vice is well and truly bolted down though. It's a beauty (the vice) still got the original transfers on, £20 from a flea market, love it!
One is never too old to learn. I was ready to comment on your spelling of "vice" (rather than the American"vise") and then I thought I should do some research first. I quickly learned that British English (is that the correct term?) uses "vice" to describe a holding tool. Swallowing my pride was uncomfortable. Is there a pun in the previous sentence? Regarding your project...my lack of confidence in matching pieces with contact cement would cause me to rough-cut the polyurethane, glue it to the base, and then trim the excess. The end shot of the device moving around the perimeter of the workbench is nice.
I had no idea that it was spelt differently in the US, i have changed the video title to include both spellings :) Woodworking is a minefield of different spellings. Rabitt/rebate, cramp/ clamp etc Glad you enjoyed the video.
Oh and there is no need to differentiate British English. There is just English. It encompasses all regional dialects. There are a wealth of differences between counties only afew miles apart, so where it has spread across the globe it binds all the wonderful variations of a language of over 2 million words. You can differentiate a dialect though, such as Scouse, brummie, Black Country etc. So you could call ‘vise’ an americanism. But English is English regardless how you spell it 😊
Like the real common man approach. Some other vids have guys in pro wood shops making vise mount to mount in a really nice built in vice. Then they say "look easy!"
It's a 2" bore Flintlock Musketoon. Build video coming soon. It's being fired from a Dutch star fortress end of October, so I was going to get the final footage then :)
I am still using the clamp boards. They are still clean and functional after years of abuse and look tidy hanging from my workbench. A little extra effort early on pays dividends in the long term.
These are instructional videos at its best to me...No crappy background music and straight to the point...Well done !
Thank you. Thats very kind of you to say so :)
This is an awesome idea! I've no space for a dedicated workbench, so this would be great as I could just clamp it to my table when need be.
Thank you 😊
You gave me a good idea of placing metal vice, where ever I want on my work bench.
Great video, nice to hear the sound of work only.
Thanks
Great ideal! Was planning do this but now you made it so much easier for me. Keep up the good work!
Well done video! Love your concise presentation. Straight to the point with excellent camera work. Subscribed.
Thank you, thats very kind of you to say so. All the best SF
Thanks you. Wife recently bought me a Mastercraft Maximum Base Workbench, she won't let me mount any vise. Your idea is really work out. Thanks again.
+PHILIP LEE you are most welcome. anything to keep a guys wife happy so he can spend more time in the shop :)
That is a great idea. I love how versatile it is.

Great idea but I wouldn’t use pressure board, but this works for what you do. Thanks for your ideals.
Works fine for bench grinders and even small drill presses too.
huummmm...so nice! What a simple and so good idea!
I wait for your big barrel gun next project! Greets from France!!
Hey that was really GOOD man👍🏼 thanks

Exactly the kind of tutorial I was searching for; subscribe and hang out for the 2" bore musket project? Don't mind if I do :) Thank you!
I have that nice vice too; it's called "Engineers Vice".
Kick Ass video. Thanks
I just bought that exact vise! Do you know if it's really made in England or if it's an Irwin import?
Viceception. I like.
Thanks for sharing
what type of c-clamps are you using (red ones)?

Glad you enjoyed it :) Sometimes you just have to get stuff done so you can move on to the next project.
Bore musket! I can't wait!
Good stuff
excellent on many levels. thank you. can you say more about the hat?
Its my favourite :)
i thought the 2 vises was bad ass, then i noticed what you had in them , totally bad ass, how bout some cannons, and a ship to put them on ????
There are a few cannon build videos on my channel.
What is the cutting tool you used to cut the conveyor belt with?
It is one of these.

Not a bad idea at all man. Good job! But, what the fark are you building? That looks like a hand cannon or a rocket launcher.

+Swallow Forge Wow. That seems pretty neat. Please post a video of it in action when completed. Would love to see that thing being fired.
Always wanted to be an artisan, oh well. Life choices.
So it's a vice bolted to a piece of wood.
Some of the best ideas are the simplest 😊
yeah, I'd be whacking my shin on that vice every time I walked passed..... until I moved it to a less painful spot at least.

I have a decent overhang on that side of the bench. So its not a problem. :)
He must not have seen the VERY obvious overhang. People like to comment critically
That does not look like a 6" vice
It looks more like a 4"
Im a grower not a show-er.... 🤣
Lots of unnecessary stuff going on there, all you need to do is bolt it to a 2x4 call it a day
