Yea mate I reckon the 3rd option is definitely the go, much more unique and interesting, just so you know I’m looking at buying a project very similar to this gq just bc I’ve never seen a video as good as this bc it’s genuinely informative and interesting to watch I cbf rust converting my bns Ute but I’ll definitely look at getting a project soon so thanks mate we all appreciate your efforts 🤙🏼
Have you thought about grafting the roof section from an MQ/MK shorty, as they have the driver section of roof with the removeable rear fibre glass section.
I’d do option 3 for sure but have the roof skin at the front with a canvas back half like the old MQ patrols had ( there’s was fibreglass but same same) 🤘
I think a steel roof would be ideal, canvas just screams leaks to me. Interesting how much of a cover up old mate did on the rust, but of a stitch up for the price you paid. Keen to see more videos on this build though
These Nissan must have fallen big time in price my son only ended up getting $2500 for his grandpa 2000 model Nissen last week it was in very good condition it had no mod's no rust no dents good paint good interior and has rego nothing to do but drive it.
Don’t know why you think that was cheap. Paid the exact same for mine and it’s got less rust in it than my gu.. and certainly doesn’t need a whole roof replaced
Always one loudmouth in the comments, nobody cares about what you paid or what you bought. Why be negative towards a bloke who has just lost his car and is starting from scratch and actually doing the work himself to learn the skills of sheet metal and bodywork?
Would be sick to see a retro canvas roof something that hasnt been done that ik of 🫡 Would also be good to do a different style sunroof install on a metal roof
3rd option would be real cool.
I agree! I think it’ll be unique and cool gesture on the beach during summer 🤟🏽
Black soft top with black pillars and then a white body would look sick
2nd option gotta keep factory roof with a twist, I think the canvas will look outer placed sitting on top
Wrap tube around the cab with bends in the rear corners and use the steel roof that’ll look sick as bro
Or 4th option
Tube roof front half, soft top and have it 45 angled on the back. Would definitely be a cool looking different
👌👌
I think 3 is a killer idea. Super unique and cool

Canvas, for sure! You're doing my dream build!
Job well done fella, 3rd option would be wicked as can’t wait to see what you do
Brother did a soft top single cab about 20 years ago, looked awesome…sounded good too with a 350 fitted…
Soft top is a cool idea for a weekend rig
Big job with rust mate keen to see how it turns out
option 2 or 3 would be sick the tube will act as a roof slider
Canvas and retro style not black have like a brown / badge love this idea👍
Tube and canvas top would look good mate
Option 1. Or do front half tube, with mq shorty half canopy on rear
Brown canvas with light tan lower half? 🤔 Awesome idea
I reckon the tube roof and canvas option that would be cool to see
The older mq shorties had a removable fibreglass roof on them, so the canvas top would be a good nod to the older patrols. Option 3 for sure
Any option sounds sick to be honest
Number 2 and don’t give up on it good seeing something new well old but new content
3rd option would be awesome, could even make it more of a ute back, otherwise option 2 tubbed gutters
3RD option bruzzy, was saying why have a roof get rid of it Jeep style canvas
Tube canvas would be killer
Have you thought about grafting the roof section from an MQ/MK shorty, as they have the driver section of roof with the removeable rear fibre glass section.
Option 2 for sure
I like the sound of the 3rd option. But could you go one better, maybe a 4th option and do an MQ style fibreglass roof 🤔
Option 3, but hard roof front, soft top rear, similar to a jeep wrangler, would be neat as
I’d do option 3 for sure but have the roof skin at the front with a canvas back half like the old MQ patrols had ( there’s was fibreglass but same same) 🤘
Well body chop with a canvas rear would look the best I reckon
Backfire lol it’s been key banged
Great vid - wasted no time getting stuck into it.

Very good video please keep the money count in each video
try and get a roof cut
Option 2 for me👍
Do a soft top build
Option 4, get a mq/mk patrol fiberglass Top
canvas would be sick only one in aus probably
2nd option. Not many vids on here of people fitting roof sliders on rusty gqs.
Would the 2nd and 3rd option be road legal at all? Just asking out of curiosity
For sure 3rd option
Make the roof a convertible option!!!
Option 2 mate
soft top would be sick
idea 3 and tube down front windscreen?
Looking forward to this
Bro go the convertible option ! Always wanted to see or build a convertible Gq that will be mad and so different
Option 2 for me i reckon. .
Single cab gq body on shorty chassis with short tray would be sick
I think 2nd option would look good but 3rd would look out of place
id like to see it looking nice and orginal , option 1 for me!!
2 or 3rd whatever you do go with the tube
Repaint it Holden persian sands colour with chrome door handles, mirrors, grille and chrome kmc beadlocks
3rd option brown canvas
canvas roof would be mad
Idea 3 with retro theme
What colours used oil meant to be?
These are red hot on the police hit list to remove from Australian roads
Sick🔥
go with the cabriolet GQ
Canvas top
Saw this for sale on marketplace
3rd option for sure
gotta get the sun roof
These Nissan must have fallen big time in price my son only ended up getting $2500 for his grandpa 2000 model Nissen last week it was in very good condition it had no mod's no rust no dents good paint good interior and has rego nothing to do but drive it.
cut n shunt a ute roof or wagon roof from bottom of pillars
Rag top!
Never have the rear end sit lower than the front end suspension please fix
absolutely no soft top at all
First option
3 for sure
Option 2
3rd option
Saw one the other day for $1500
Not regod though and very rusty
First or second option, I think canvas roofs are tacky
Make it original again fresh gutters and fresh roof
2 option
Don’t know why you think that was cheap. Paid the exact same for mine and it’s got less rust in it than my gu.. and certainly doesn’t need a whole roof replaced
How is 2.5k not cheap?
@@rhockyrhoads7773 cause it's stuffed and should of been scrapped. If it was a td42 one it would of been cheap.

option 3
retro theme
Would be sick to see a retro canvas roof something that hasnt been done that ik of 🫡
Would also be good to do a different style sunroof install on a metal roof
