    Hi Kelsey, just found you and really enjoyed your video on nubian goats. Also, I have Nigerian dwarfs, but am thinking I want to add a Nigerian to my herd.. One, there adorable and 2 I hear their milk is great. When I learned that you live in MN I got hopeful that it might be possible for me to have one. I live in WI and have always thought that nubians did not do well in midwest temps. Our Nigerians live in a 3 sided cattle shed and my husband has made small little areas where they can crawl into for warmth. Are Nubians tend to be sickly? Are they jumpers? And lastly, are they noisy? I also want to compliment you on your other videos. Good content and fun to watch. I am going to subscribe and look forward to more of your videos.

      Hi Gail,
      Thank you so much! I enjoy putting the videos out and sometimes you wonder if they actually make a difference for anyone so I'm glad to hear it. :)
      As far as sickly, my Nubians have done pretty well. We did have one buck who was sick constantly and finally passed away, but I think he had some sort of immune deficiency. I have another Nubian who gets basically a nose cold from time to time. Other than that they have all done well. With bucks you do want to make sure they get good nutrition and plenty of water. They seem to be weaker in general for some reason.
      Mine haven't been jumpers necessarily but if you have a weak spot in the fence or a spot they can wriggle under they will drop down to their knees and army crawl.
      Noisy is going to depend on the goat. Our main mama Nubian is VERY noisy. Very dramatic too. Her daughters are much less so. Overall Nubians as a breed tend to be more vocal.
      As to temps in our states, like I say in the video: dry, out of the wind, plenty of bedding, and lots of hay and they should be fine. There are some Nubian genetics that tend to be shaggier. Our buck for instance puts on a very nice thick coat in the winter. Our main doe has a VERY thin hair coat. I'm hoping his genetics make a difference for the kids. I plan on selling our main doe (she is also a bad mother unfortunately) and will only add in goats in the future who have a thicker winter coat.
      They definitely do have creamy milk. If I wanted I could skim some off the top from the doe I am milking now. It will actually separate in a few days if left in the fridge.
      Lastly (sorry I'm so long winded here!) if you haven't checked out Delic Plouffe's blog/channel over at A Life of Heritage you should! She is in Montana and raises Mini Nubians, which are a cross between Nigerians and Nubians. Might be just the ticket for you.
      Thanks again and good luck with your goats.

    Maam . Thank you for your answer. May I ask you one more, please?^^ What if they are very young goats like 2~4 months olds?

    • @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse
      @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That depends on the goat. Around here you can expect to pay $300-600for a registered buckling. $450-700 for a registered doeling.

    So adorable, I'd like a few. How is keeping say 2 females for pets? Will they still produce milk unbred?

    • @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse

      To get milk they would need to kid/have babies first. I think they would make perfectly fine pets. Ours were very friendly for the most part.

    • @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse
      @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends on a lot of things. The goat's age, if she is in milk, her genetics, etc. A doe will cost you anywhere from $400- Upwards of $1,000. A buck will be about the same. Best of luck with your goats in the future!

    • @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse

      About the same as any other goat. Some mamas have an easier time than others. I usually have at least one each year that needs a little help with a turned back leg, etc.

    Why do they reject them?

    • @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse
      @RoughandTumbleFarmhouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It can be for many reasons. New moms sometimes just don’t know what they are doing.
      Sometimes they might reject a weaker kid. Or they might have too many kids and chase one away so they have milk enough for the other kids.
      And sometimes you just have a reluctant mom.
