    About Sweet Briar Farm
    We are a small farm located in Central/Northern Michigan. We farm every inch of our 6 acres. We breed Registered Dairy Goats, Dexter Cattle, and Heritage Hogs. Clean healthy food is important to us and we like to produce the majority of our food on the farm and we grow and raise enough to sell to local customers. Producing our own food also means we forage for wild edibles such as mushrooms and tap our maple trees in the spring to make maple syrup. In 2019 we added honeybees to the farm and have had as many as 30 active hives producing honey for us.
    Our goats include Nubian goats, Mini Nubians, Fainting Goats, and Nigerian Dwarf goats.
    Our Heritage Hogs include: registered Berkshires, Tamworth, Kune Kune, and Hereford.

    I love that you share with the babies and don't take the babies away from Mum. I did the same with my Toggies. They'd live and sleep next to there Mum. Such a beautiful bond I'd never change it. 9nly thing is I didn't take them away during the night.

      There are lots of good ways to care for animals. I do love keeping them together too❤️. Kid sharing helps preserve those bonds and also allows me to be flexible in which days I’m milking.

      It’s really neat to see the differences between all the goats udders. Fawn an Nellie have really nice udders. But Nellies is the best.

    I love the farm that you got Nellie from! Do you use their herbal wormers as well?

    • @SweetBriarFarmMichigan
      @SweetBriarFarmMichigan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We do not. IF any of them need to be wormed we use a vet prescribed dewormer.

    My kids prefer goat milk. They say cow milk tastes like nothing. My son went to visit his grandmother in Florida and she only had store bought cow milk and he was not a fan. 🤣

    • @SweetBriarFarmMichigan
      @SweetBriarFarmMichigan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I cannot tell the difference between cow milk and goat milk. Well unless it’s our Jersey milk. We found the key is getting it cold fast. Kelsey got small dorm room trash cans that fit a half gallon mason jar perfectly and fit on a shelf in the fridge. So she puts them in an ice bath int the fridge. Everyone that has come over and said they don’t like goat milk because it’s “goaty” is shocked when they taste our goat milk.

      We are breeding Nellie to our Nubian Dutton this fall/winter. Dutton is out of Hooligans Farm and creamery in South Lyon, MI. We have a 2 part video tour of her place from the winter. But Dutton is a Hendricks offspring and Hendricks is the only full brother to Candyman from my enchanted acres in Washington. Candyman was number 1 on the elite list. So anyway we brought in really excellent genetics. Land of Havala Nubians are as you can see really outstanding.

      They are 6.5 inch non gauze filters off Amazon. KenAG is the brand name.

      We bought the mitty milk machine because we milk so many goats and a cow. The Amazon one is good for the price and if you are only milking a few goats. This is the one from Amazon it looks like the design is changed from since we purchased www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B085TBNSML?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

    What should be the ratio of carbohydrates and protein for milking goats with alfalfa hay ?
    Please

    • @SweetBriarFarmMichigan
      @SweetBriarFarmMichigan  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good question! I give my does a 50:50 mix of alfalfa pellets and 16% protein goat pellets while on the milk stand. Just enough to keep them busy for as long as it takes to milk them out. They each get about a third of a cup of the 16% pellet in the evenings too and unlimited high legume hay. I only milk once a day.

    Hi SB Farm. I am from india and here we have many goat farms. We have more than 20 breeds of goats here. And we also have goats that look very similar to your goat here. How many times in a year do your goats deliver kids? What is maximum size and weight of your goats?

    • @SweetBriarFarmMichigan
      @SweetBriarFarmMichigan  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All the breeds we have kid once a year. The Nubians are our largest goats and the females will weigh around 150 pounds and the bucks up to 200lbs fully grown. The Nigerian dwarfs and fainting goats are around 50-70lbs for the does and 65-80 lbs for the bucks.
