ஏழு தலைகளை குறிப்பதால் இந்த மலைக்கு சேசாசலம் என்று பெயர் உள்ளது. திருமலையின் ஏழு சிகரங்களும் சேஷாத்ரி, அஞ்சனாத்ரி, நாராயணாத்ரி, விருஷபாத்ரி, கருடாத்ரி, வேங்கடாத்ரி, நீலாத்ரி என அழைக்கப்படுகின்றன.
திருமலை, திரேதா யுகத்தில் அஞ்சனாத்ரி என்றும், கிருத யுகத்தில் நாராயணாத்ரி என்றும் துவாபரயுகத்தில் நரசிம்மாத்ரி என்றும் கலியுகத்தில் திருவேங்கடாத்ரி என்றும் பெயர் பெற்றுள்ளதாக கூறப்படுகிறது
