- Vic makes a drive all the way to San Diego to visit one aquarium! Rob, also known as West Coast Reefer, has a 300 gallon mixed reef aquarium that is packed with colorful corals. His tank is really clean and all of his fish seems to be thriving. Vic is highly impressed with how neat his setup is. His lights and filtration area is laid out beautifully, making the whole aquarium aesthetically pleasing. Rob has been in the reefing hobby for many years and it definitely shows in his aquarium.

Awesome setup. He inspired me to get my tank built by the same manufacturer as well as the stand. My sump and plumbing are not on that level though lol. Love it all. Glad you did a spotlight since he does not do youtube videos much anymore.

Import and the awesome LFS Shops. I’d go on buying trips in LA back in 2003-2011 and I found better corals in the LFS stores than the wholesalers. The local LFS buyers all
Had sections sat aside with the Big wholesalers packed with awesome stuff. I saw some insane “illegal “ corals in a little shop in OC. The best small
Polyps Micromussa I ever saw. Had 50 playing card sized colonies and the colors were all pastel and looked like
Water colors. Was told the got imported in the belly of fish imported and weren’t of the cities list. There was a shop up north a little ways that had a 36”‘cube in wall with 100s of Acanthophyllia. Couldn’t see rock. Of course none for sale. There was a place called Tongs(spelling?) that was insane the west coast used to dog the east coast!

One thing that alarmed me is Phosphate-E. It's lanthanum chloride right? As careful as I could dosing it, it killed my tangs including the gem tang I bought the same time as yours. Strongly discourage people from using it. Its not worth the risk!
Rob’s tank & set up is stellar. His attention to detail is great. Beautiful corals & fish.. Using Brightwell’s line of products is working very well for him.

phosphate-e is amazing. ive been using it directly into my tank with only the use of mechanical filtration. i was finally able to bring my extremely high levels (1.45) phosphates to a much more manageable level of (.15)- love it. do be careful using it because it quickly clogs up the mechanical filtration being either poly of filter socks.
