Like Pink Floyd, this work Quadrophenia should be listened to as a complete work. Musical themes reoccur and weave in and out throughout the work. It is a rock opera!
This album is incredible (especially Keith Moon on drums). This song is an overture, with pieces of each song. Please explore the album! The song that got your attention is 'Love, Reign O'er Me" and it's a vocal tour de force for Roger Daltrey.
I've been saying that, about learning the story about the album, since they first started playing songs off this album. Tommy also, which is the same quality of music, but this album is a coming-of-age anthem, where is Tommy is just plain disturbing.
@@jamesoconnor9027 zTommy was a very good and meaningful story during that era and into the next decade because there were several fanatic groups that had leaders that caused mass suicides and other crazy nonsense that relates indirectly. One of the greatest double albums, one of the greatest Concept Albums and just plain one of the Greatest Albums, period. All four musicians are at their best and the production is the envy of everybody, they have few peers. This album should be listened to in its entirety sometime to get the full story and to hear the awesome flow of the songs, one into another, stuff you usually think about with Pink Floyd. This piece serves as what would normally be the opening overture to a musical or opera - an instrumental number that introduces the main musical themes of the entire work. It's placement as the 3rd piece on the album is unorthodox, as they choose to open with a soundscape of recorded sounds to aurally set the location and then "The Real Me", to introduce Jimmy, the protagonist. The word "Quadrophenia" is a play on schizophrenia, but with 4 personalities*. The piece presents the 4 musical themes which each represent one of the 4 sides of Jimmy's personality, and which also represents the personalities of one of the members of The Who. It's all really brilliant. *And yes, schizophrenia is commonly used to mean a split personality, but that is not the correct meaning in psychology.

THE BEATLES (Revolver/Sgt.Pepper/Magical Mystery Tour), PINK FLOYD's (Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here/Animals), HENDRIX's (Are You Experienced/Axis: Bold as Love/Electric Ladyland) and THE WHO's (Tommy/Who's Next/Quadrophenia) were all three in a row masterpieces. Back to back to back!
What I love about The Who is that all participants are all equal. The singer, the guitar the bass and even the drums. The bass and the drums are not just for rythm, they are equal intruments to all other in their songs. I never heard something comparble like that before or after.
The Album Quadrophenia is a "Rock Opera" by The Who. Though some songs stand alone as singles the whole album is meant to be listed to as one piece of work - so some songs may be transitional tunes meant to connect one part of the Opera to another - working well in the context of the whole album but not necessarily standing on their own.

Need to watch the movie Tommy. Quadrophenia is a rock opera
😂🤣😂 It sounds familiar because you've reacted to 'Love, Reign o'er Me' by them a month ago! 🤫 It's basically the song without the words. 🤗 Also why it's ok to do a bunch of songs in 1 sitting even if you post them months apart. 🤔 I bet if you heard this and LRoM in the same sitting, you would have made the connection. 🥰🐰
The track Quadrophenia is a sort of overture of most of the tracks on the album. This whole album tells a story. You should listen to it as a full album and in order. I feel confident that you guys will enjoy the music.
👍, but ALL of it
It's the "reign O'er me" refrain
This is not really a song per se...it's the album's overture. Snippets of each song you are about to hear in full on the album. This entire album is epic.
