I get it, I can't quit my Daking mic pres. I'm using an Apollo now for the DSP processing (mostly SSL channel), but when I compare the unison SSL pre to the Daking going into SSL line in... the Daking has some extra midrange sparkle that just works.
I think the 104 is a great compliment to the 87 because there is a wonderful sibling rivalry between them. One is the classic, the other is the upstart. They make for a great tandem.
i absolutely love this combo!! just curious what opamp r u using in the capi vp26? been watching your videos for a long time now & coming from a novice i think that they're so insightful & intoxicating so keep up the great work man!! 👍

Yeah when you find that perfect combo, you have to grab onto it and hold it forever with both hands. It’s always a journey to find “the” sound.
Everytime I hear you through the 104 makes me want to buy one ... I guess I'm one video to finally buy it. My U87ai is getting reaaaaaally jealous.

Thank you very much! Glad you’re enjoying the channel. I’m using a Louder Than Liftoff Rogue 5 op amp in this build.
Vintage sounds "vintagey"? Check!
Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. It's actually vintigeriffic and slightly vintageous, so wash your hands.
That's pleasant! Makes me curious about the use of various preamps with mics that I like but don't normally use
@@jarredcannonIt has me thinking again about hardware preamps, which is dangerous.
