    Wow, the sponsor within the mic comparison is probably the smartest thing I've seen in TH-cam. I actually heard it all, Podcastle people must be pretty satisfied.

    The RE20 sounded the best on your voice Aiden, still my first pick. SM-7B in second.

    I have been using the bcm 705 for the last 4 years and like it very much. The main reason I am using it rather than the re 27 or bcm 104 is superior off axis and rear rejection. You can use this mic in an environment that has ambient noise like moving papers on the desk without any fear of interference.

    The BCM 705 is very muddy and nasally, though with proper microphone technique it sounds fine.

  • @SoundAuthor
    @SoundAuthor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Neumann dropped the ball on this one. Too muddy and too reliant on mic technique.

  • @dickginkowski6071
    @dickginkowski6071 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hmmm. Neumann does sound good with your mic technique but not worth more $$. Would a comparison with the RE-20 be more viable? The SM7B definitely sounds good as well. I think an interesting comparison would be Rode NT1 or a Shure KSM 32.

    • @voa23
      @voa23 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But those are not dynamic unlike the Shure SM7 and the RE 20- I do have to give this one to the Shure. It sounded more upfront and transparent.

    I still prefer this over the 104 but that seems to be an unpopular opinion. There are also not enough videos about the 705 and there seem to be way more about the 104. I also have not seen any comparison videos between the two.

      @@DarkCornerStudios Okay, I just went back and forth between your 104 and 705 videos and honestly the 705 sounds a bit sibilant while the 104 is quite a bit more detailed, at least on your voice. I have even changed my mind and decided I prefer the 104 sound even though the 705 is super practical for streaming and whatnot. It seems those nicer broadcast condensers like the Ethos and BCM 104 also reject background noise really well. The 104 is so good in fact that it's even a VO contender and is arguably better for that application due to less coloration and more detail than the SM7B or RE20 for example.

  • @Thestripper1
    @Thestripper1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    3:40 It's not really fair when you are not using the BCM 705 close up like it's obviously intended. You are using both mics at SM7B distance.

    • @DarkCornerStudios
      @DarkCornerStudios  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wait...you thing the sm7b has a distance that is ANYTHING other than close up?

    • @Thestripper1
      @Thestripper1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DarkCornerStudios Wait.. I don't really know what I'm talking about. But the sm7B seems to do much better at a distance of over 3" than the BCM 705. The BCM 705 really shines when you are at 1/2" distance.

    • @DarkCornerStudios
      @DarkCornerStudios  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No mic should be used at a half inch distance.
      The SM7B is ACTUALLY one of the mics you are supposed to be close to...because the capsule is backed up in the mic sock around 1 inch.
      The BCM 705 is optimized for close...but that still means around 2 inches.
      Proximity effect isnt the way to test microphones

    • @DarkCornerStudios

      By the way...that mic is super close to the corner of my mouth...

    Even the blue sona sounds better than this. (Its a serious alternative to the sm7b if its a little cheaper) Otherwise we have the shure and the re20 we dont need alternatives if there not a lot cheaper. (The price is like the only downside of the re20)

      @@DarkCornerStudios Thanks for answering, I think that the sm5b is much better in terms of sound than the current sm7b, besides that the sm7b seems to me to be more suitable for those who want to appear to have a thicker voice or with more bass, in any case I lean more towards the neumann bcm 705, obviously those who have a thin tone of voice ... they will not use the neumann and will choose the sm7b (loaded in bass) ... the electro voice very medium high ... definitely Neumann or the shure sm5b ... although in terms of gain, neumann is better ... sm7b requires more gain or output volume

    yo. the Neumann is basically pointing past your mouth from the side. both the SM7 and the RE20 is pointing directly toward the mouth. So you're in fact demoing one mic on-axis and one mic off-axis...............that makes no sense...for how you use a microphone the Neumann is wrong.

    • @voiceovergabe1466
      @voiceovergabe1466 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have this mic and I agree - he is slightly off mic. All the more so because the Neumann is hyper-cardioid. I far prefer the warm, clean, natural tones of the BCM 705 over my SM7b (too dark) and RE320 (sounds scooped and artificial - but good for radio). RE20 also has that signature artificial sound. I use my mic for audiobook narration.

      @DarkCornerStudios beautifully edited but out of habit you spent the entire time 'off the mic' looking at the camera. Only for a split second you were in the appropriate range for that mic. Then the whole podcastle promo you only spoke into the sm7b. For the re20 you only projected into it. Definitely a fail for an amazing video.
