Another very well done video with the all important view of the actual phone, which will prove extremely helpful to those new to switching to GOS. Also great important mentions of updating Android prior to running web installer, ensuring OEM unlocking is available prior to purchasing a used phone, confirming a proper cable and web browser is used for web installer, verifying the hash, and encouraging donations! Keep up the good work! It is hard to believe this has not been sufficuently addressed by any private email provider. Mail Fence comes close, but they don't encrypt their contacts. Posteo also comes close, but Posteo doesn't successfully implement/import Google Contacts labels/groups. Sadly this is the one and only thing that continues to keep me connected to Google.
Just a heads up that you are the reason the new phone I bought two days ago is a Pixel 7 and I used your video to install GrapheneOS on it, simply and no fuss. Graphene is actually such a pleasant experience with no drawbacks from the stock os, if anything I'm gaining on battery life, no distractions or bloatware and a newly gained peace of my mind over privacy and security. Your videos rock and I really wanna thank you again for the knowledge you share so well!!

@SideOfBurritos regarding "Update your device - 02:58" Fyi: as you already mentioned, it is suggested to update a device prior to installing GrapheneOS. However, to save time (~2h+ or more), our webusb installer does all that automatically and certainly does not take as long initially. Great video and excellent coverage of many important points explained in this video! Thank you Josh!
😂 I'm surprised someone noticed that. I didn't realize it until I uploaded my Pixel 7 video. I thought I uploaded the wrong video file because it was the exact same time.

I have just installed Graphene OS on my Pixel 6 with Linux Mint. Make sure to update apt and install ADB SDK as instructed by the Graphene OS website (no need for fwud). Use the admin account when on Mint. Everything works flawlessly. And now Pixel 6 is on Android 15! Graphene OS offers multiple Users which a +++. Cheers!
[2] Thanks for the quick and detailed response to [1]. As you suggested, I rebooted into bootloader and cleared cache, then restarted from "Download release'. This step didn't seem to do anything: it showed a full blue progress bar immediately. So I went on to "Flash release". This ran with progress notifications for a few minutes and then stopped at the same place as last night. "Error: Bootloader replied with FAIL: Invalid command update-super:super:wipe". The phone looked the same as it did for [1]: "Reboot system now" in white on blue, with maybe three lines of text following. I used my old phone to photograph this just in case it might be useful. Then I tried yet again. Rebooted into bootloader and cleared cache. This time "Download release" actually did something: or at least, the progress bar took a few minutes to fill up the slot from left to right. Just as it reached the right-hand edge, it gave this message "Error: Failed to execute 'transaction' on 'IDBDatabase': The database connection is closing." So that's where it stands...still no joy. Any suggestions for a next step? 😵💫
Hmm, I can't find the original comment, so I don't know exactly what I wrote/asked. 1. Different cable 2. Does your computer have more than 4GB of RAM? 3. Your old phone, is it Android? You can connect a USB cable between the devices and try the installation from your old phone's browser.
just got mine two days ago . does your 7 pro runs hot ? i keep my brightness at between 65-80 percent and was just browsing the web ( no youtube vdo running etc) strictly web browsing yahoo finance and at about 14 mins later my phone was hot to the touch. How's your phone doing so far ?
Such a great and useful video, really appreciate the time and effort you put in to this. Most definitely will be liking and subscribing also. Love it !
Great video, thanks. I did a lot of os swaps on my old phones but couldn't remember everything and I didn't want to screw up my new P7 Pro. I could not get Chrome to work. It unlocked bootloader in Chrome, and I could download the image, but I kept getting the error saying I had to download an image first when clicking on flash. I disabled all extensions and only had Chrome running with the Graphene tab and it would still give the error. After about a dozen attempts I tried it in Edge and it worked first try.
Thank you for this. Its been a couple years since I originally installed Graphene on my Pixel 3XL, which just recently bricked out of nowhere. It gave that old phone such an extended life. I got hung up on the Windows driver part when trying to install on my new 7a. For something like that, Im surprise the documentation doesn't highlight that issue a little better by either a bullet point, or bolding, etc...
No, I no longer recommend CalyxOS. GrapheneOS has full compatibility for apps with their sandboxed play service + various security and privacy improvements.
Wow! Great content. I'm new to the world of privacy and I'm bookmarking your channel for what I'm sure will be many future references. Not many give such clear and explicit content. It's rare. One newby question if I may, I'd like to follow all the steps you outlined here, buy an new unlocked Pixel without a sim card from Google then install G OS as you have. The thing I'm missing is what to next? How do I activate cellular service?
Thank you! I really appreciate the kind words! You would activate it just like any other phone. If you have an active SIM card in another device, you can just swap it to this phone, and you should be all set. I regularly switch SIM cards between devices and have no issues. If you have an eSIM, you can follow the directions on the provider's website and activate it just like any other device. There are some more details on carrier support on this page - grapheneos.org/usage#carrier-functionality
Hi there, you're welcome! I've never personally use it, but I was following this thread, and it looks like it does - discuss.grapheneos.org/d/1236-pixel-watch-and-grapheneos/33
They're still undecided about it: === We might not add Pixel 7 face unlock support partly because it's much lower security than Pixel 4 face unlock. Pixel 4 had dual infrared cameras + dot projector + flood illuminator which provided a more secure approach than a fingerprint scanner. Pixel 7 approach is far worse. === Source: nitter.net/GrapheneOS/status/1590473897031634944
Most of the people watching this will be new to GrapheneOS. If that's you, I put together a guide that organizes my videos in a way that's a bit easier to follow. It can be tough to figure out which ones to start with just looking at the list of videos on TH-cam. - sideofburritos.com/docs/setup-guides/mobile-privacy/
I have installed it on my Pixel 7 Pro. But for privacy should I sign into Google for TH-cam on a browser or could I make a profile and sign in to Google that way. I did sign in with a new Google account however I have to resubscribe for each channel.
@@aotechdev Do you have a little "!" in your cellular connection icon on the top right? If so, swipe down, tap "internet", and you should see your cell phone carrier listed with small text below that says "Mobile data won't auto-connect". Enable that toggle and it should work. You can use flash.android.com to restore stock Android OS. I also made this video a while ago walking through it - th-cam.com/video/HcEzqduMU4E/w-d-xo.html
@@kaptain1477 either should be fine, the experience might be a bit better if you go through the app and sign in. I regularly use the browser and it works fine.
🚨 If you are here and have the 7a, you can follow this video. I filmed this installation on a Pixel 7, but the process is nearly identical for all Pixels, including the Google Pixel 7a.
Dude!, Great tutorial, I want switch to grapheneos I loved it even more since they ve added sandboxed services; there is just one thing, I am kind of gamer, could you do a video about game performance and compare it to the stock android of the same phone. Thank you,
Hey! Hmm, that's an interesting topic. Do you have any specific games in mind? I don't play any, so I wouldn't know what to pick. When you say performance, what exact criteria are you referring to?
@@sideofburritos Thanks for th reply bud! For games you can choose from PUBG, COD mobile, Fortnite and Genshin impact, with FPS meter and compare them to the stock os. The idea here s showing that Graphene os is not limiting the device s performance in anyway. Doing this will maybe will push some hesitated poeple to try the os especially the gamers.
Thank you for the suggestion! I will look into this and figure out a good way to demo it. I like the approach you mentioned of "does GrapheneOS limit gaming" or something along those lines.
There is. You can use flash.android.com to restore stock Android OS. I also made this video a while ago walking through it - th-cam.com/video/HcEzqduMU4E/w-d-xo.html
Ok, GMS sandboxed install direct from GOS is more than fine but google play store? Why? I don't understand why you don't recommend Aurora instead. Very straight forward tutorial btw..
1. Play store does more than provide a front end to download apps. It provides additional functionality that some apps needs to run. So even if you don't sign in to it, it may be required by some apps, so they work correctly. Aurora store doesn't replace that functionality. ---- The Play Store provides many services used by apps including Play Asset Delivery, Play Feature Delivery, in-app purchases and license checks for paid apps. The Play Store app is also the most secure way to install and update apps from the Play Store. ---- source: grapheneos.org/usage#sandboxed-google-play-installation 2. I tried to explain my reasoning in the video, but that recommendation is for those that are new and hesitant to use GrapheneOS. Someone that is new to the OS and might stop using it if it's too difficult of a switch, they're better to just use Play Store and then explore other options at a later time once they're comfortable. I've received numerous emails from individuals that were overwhelmed by all the recommendations (F-Droid, APK Download, Aurora Store) that they wanted to go back to their old device and give up. My recommendations at the end of the video are for those individuals. edit: multiple spelling mistakes
I am overwhelmed by the store problems. Often the different stores have different versions. You can not install with one and later update with another. Sometimes the store is refusing to update because of version problems.
@@sideofburritos Thank so much for all the provided details. The only problems I have with GOS is android auto and google pay and I understand that there is no solution whatsoever. For privacy some compromises should be made, you can not have everything, unfortunately. Keep up the good work!
@mrcvry what stores are you using? The easiest setup to get started is to only use Google Play store. That way you don't need to worry about different stores having different versions causing issues.
I've been debating on getting a Pixel 7 (to get away from my OnePlus 8T). Haven't used a custom ROM in years, like OG droid days. I know the whole point of GrapheneOS is to get away from Google and their services. But what if you need to use some? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of this ROM? I've also heard banking apps don't work well w/custom ROM's. How does it work w/Graphene?
The last Android OS I used before GrapheneOS was CyanogenMod. After that, I switched to an iPhone for years, then back to use GrapheneOS. So, I can confidently say, it's come a LONG way from the custom ROM days. The terminology has evolved as well, so instead of the 'hacky' ROM's we used to use, they are now full-fledged OS's. That's an impression most people have of the project, but that's not exactly the goal. This comment sums it up well, "'degoogling' isn't the priority for the project and is a misnomer. Happening to start from a position of no default connections to Google nor having their proprietary apps installed by defauly is a Bob Ross-ian Happy Accident for those of us looking to reduce and restrict our exposure to BigG." - discuss.grapheneos.org/d/1420-google-play-store-and-degoogle If you need to use Google and their services, GrapheneOS provides a great option for that compatibility. Their implementation with Sandboxed play services installs them as standard apps, vs typical Android OS that has them installed as highly privileged system apps - grapheneos.org/features#sandboxed-google-play. You also have the option to install them in a separate user profile (that's the setup I use) so that only the apps in that user profile have access to them. You can also 'end session' on additional user profiles, which turns if off, so you know for certain those services are only running when you need them. This video goes into a bit more detail regarding User Profiles - th-cam.com/video/20C0FD7mGDY/w-d-xo.html. This one I cover play services installation - th-cam.com/video/SZ0PKtiXTSs/w-d-xo.html. Even if you install Play services on your main owner profile, the implementation GrapheneOS has is still MUCH better than using any other Android device. For banking apps, here's a list of tested banking apps - privsec.dev/posts/android/banking-applications-compatibility-with-grapheneos/. GrapheneOS has top-notch compatibility with banking apps. I probably biased, but I would highly recommend you try it out with the Pixel 7. Hope that helps!
As long as it supports OEM unlocking, it should. Someone on this thread - discuss.grapheneos.org/d/1005-pixel-6a-charger-issue was asking about a charger, from what they wrote it sounds like they're located in India using GrapheneOS. Regarding network support, it should work with all carriers supported by the stock OS. This page has some more details about it - grapheneos.org/usage#carrier-functionality. The information about is my best guess, as I don't have a way to personally confirm it. Good luck!
Hello...I am wondering if i buy this phone, and change to GO... does camera quality rest the same? is there a real differnce between the 6a and 7? thank you
What @maxmustermann7365 about the difference in the actual phone hardware. 6a is a significant value for the price. Regarding going from stock Android OS -> GrapheneOS and the camera, you have the option to install Google Camera and have the same quality/options as stock Android OS. GrapheneOS comes with a camera app that works great (I use it) but it doesn't have as many features as the Google Camera app.
I really wanna make a change but will banking apps work? My country has a lot of QR payment methods. If banking apps don’t work, I guess not worth changing
I highly suggest checking this site - privsec.dev/posts/android/banking-applications-compatibility-with-grapheneos/. They have a ton of banking apps on there sorted by country, and whether they work. It should help you figure out if you'll be able to make the switch.
At first I want to say thank you for the content, that you are uploading on yt. Im normally in the apple ecosystem, Before that I used as a smartphone only the BB with BBOS 10. Now, after few years I want to get a bit out of apple ecosystem. I saw your video about how to install graphene OS on a pixel pro 7. Now, after few days I have to say, that the device ist bit to large and to heavy. I would switch to pixel 7 and set graphene OS back to google Android OS. May you tell me how to do it correct. How to remove the non-stock key? Or can I do it in the same way, as I installed Graphene OS. I hope you can help me. I like the GrapheneOS and want to use it, but need smaller device.
@@maxmustermann7365 no, just want to switch the device. Pro7 is to large and heavy. I ordered Pixel 7 and want to install GrapheneOS on it. I recovered successfully the Google android OS on the actual device.
@@sideofburritos To use the flash.android 1st I had to remove the non-stock key. I connected my phone with notebook and enabled OEM unlocking and unlocked bootloader. After that I was able to remove the non-stock key, as described. Next step was to enable USB boot.... When this was done, android.flash could be activated and I followed the steps. It worked very well. My Pixe 7 should arrive tomorrow or on thursday. Ill install grapheneOS on it. Thank your very very much for your content. 🤝💪
Is it true that there is no Adaptive Charging on GrapheneOS? Therefore the battery should be on 100% over hours during sleep, which would decrease battery health quicker than necessary. Charging and unplugging before sleep is possible but inconvenient with 10% battery consumption per night on a Pixel
What is the use of installing the GrapheneOS if still I have to use Google play services and Google account, and again centralized my data under Google accounts?
I don't, but I've seen this thread that mentions the Pro's work without Google services - discuss.grapheneos.org/d/857-pixel-buds-pro/6. I wasn't able to find anything regarding the A-Series, but from what I understand, the only difference is noise cancellation, so they *should work*.
I was just wondering... Does grapheneos uses its own recovery or twrp? If I didnt like graphene do I have to flash twrp before trying different custom rom? Thanks
I am waiting for my P7 from Bestbuy. I bought the unlocked version. Are you saying it might actually be "OEM LOCKED" while being "carrier UNLOCKED"? I hope not.
Nice, glad to hear! Like you saw, an unlocked Pixel is truly unlocked. If you bought a Verizon branded Pixel it can be "carrier unlocked" but won't be OEM unlockable.
I just looked at the requirements for doing this graphene only to find that none of the browsers for Ubuntu are acceptable even though Ubuntu is an acceptable OS to install from.
Discord/matrix is the best place to ask. Make sure you're using a supported browser (try chrome or brave) and 9 times out of 10, the issue is the USB cable.
Nope, I want to tear my hair out, I've enabled unlock OEM but every time I get to the bootloader unlock it says in the box that there's no device. grrrrrrrr...
Try connecting to wifi and see if that works. There's also a difference between OEM unlockable device, and carrier unlocked. You may just have a carrier unlocked device.
Hello , I have a problem graphene os I ' m using two google 7pro I created MAC: using IBO player and both phones have same MAC please let me know if there is a way to fix it thanks
Myself and @Spirit B (below message from 6 days ago) we both are in the same position. Can you advise? Here is Spirits post, which is the same issue I am at with my Pixel 7: I did everything and now in fastboot mode it only says "restart bootloader" and not unlock bootloader. What did I wrong? For me: I have the following options: Restart Bootloader, Recover Mode, Rescue Mode, Bar Code, Power Off, and Start. I did not get the option for Lock the Bootloader. My cell also shows Fastboot Mode. I love your guidance very detailed and concise, and do hope you can advise us.
When you're at the Fastboot Mode screen, click the button on this step - grapheneos.org/install/web#locking-the-bootloader If your phone is correctly connected to your computer, the option will show up. I just manually tested this process on a device that already has GrapheneOS installed.
I *believe* they both work. I haven't personally tested them. According to this thread, call screening works, but not all features of it using Google dialer - discuss.grapheneos.org/d/102-call-screening/8
Oh man please help. I did everything and now in fastboot mode it only says "restart bootloader" and not unlock bootloader. What did I wrong? OEM is ready

Used your excellent 6A vid to install GOS on my new Pixel 7 yesterday. It all went well except the phone has no internet unless connected to WiFi. Tried changing the carrier settings from "LGE only" to the others. No dice. I haven't been able to find anyone else with the same issue and don't see anything on the official GOS site addressing this either. I can't be the only one. I suspect there is a setting somewhere that I missed. Anyone have any suggestions?
Hmm, do you have a little "!" in your cellular connection icon on the top right? If so, swipe down, tap "internet", and you should see your cell phone carrier listed with small text below that says "Mobile data won't auto-connect". Enable that toggle and it should work.
Thanks for the reply. The carrier signal icon did have a "!" in it. The problem turned out to be an issue with the sim. It needed to be paired with the carrier. Forgot about this since I previously bought my devices from the carrier so it was already done. A phonecall to my carrier took care of the problem. Apparently they had to go in and release some "blocks" (their word not mine). Phone runs like a champ now.
@@overbuiltlimited That is excellent to know, I didn't realize that was a thing. Thanks for sharing! That'll help in the future in case someone else has similar issues.
[1] I got to the stage of clicking the Flash Release button. The installer then did a lot of things, giving a running report. Now the installer says "Restarting device..." (again; it said it maybe 2 or 3 times before). This display hadn't changed in the last half hour. Over on the phone I see "fastbootd" in red letters, followed by several lines of gold text, and then "reboot system now" in white letters on a blue background. So I guess this means my earlier attempt to download a driver for fastboot from Windows Update was unsuccessful...? (But when I return to Windows Update, it no longer offers the Android option, so I can't try it again.) What's the best action now?
If you made it to that stage the drivers are all good on windows. At the point you're currently at use the volume up/down to select "reboot into bootloader" (I forget the exact wording). If you don't see that, press the power button to reboot the device then hold the volume down to get back into the bootloader interface. Disconnect the phone from the USB cable, clear your browser cache (this will clear the downloaded release). Now go back to the web installer, reconnect your phone, skip the "unlock bootloader" step because it's already unlocked. Start with the obtaining factory images "Download release" and try the process again. If you run across the same issue again, repeat the above steps. It sounds like something is happening in the install process and it's not completing fully.
Verizon branded pixels will never support OEM unlocking. They're the only carrier I'm aware of that does this. If the phone is sold as a "Verizon Pixel" the device serial will not allow OEM unlocking.
When I try to Flash, it says on the web installer, "Error: Failed to execute 'transferIn' on 'USBDevice': A transfer error has occurred." Same error message when I try Ubuntu or Windows 11 using Brave. Pixel 7 Pro. On the phone screen it says fastbootd. Any suggestions?
I winded up doing it from my old phone instead of PC and worked. Plugged USB c between both phones. I believe it was the USB c port on my PC causing the issue
ok updating the fastboot driver & the zip file(usb driver) isn't showing in device manager. wondering if I should move the files outside of the zip. anybody who could help would be much appreciated
Instead of the manual install, have you tried the method of installing from Windows Update? ---- You can obtain the driver from Windows Update which will detect it as an optional update when the device is booted into the bootloader interface and connected to the computer. Open Windows Update, run a check for updates and then open the "View optional updates" interface. Install the driver for the Android bootloader interface as an optional update. ----
No, that opens you up to a whole other attack surface and is not supported. ex. an attacker compromises your device, obtains root access, and cant easily maintain persistence. You lose verified boot and automatic updates.
No, the reason being: "Face unlock on 7th gen Pixels is not included in GrapheneOS because it's not a secure implementation due to missing hardware to make it secure. 4th gen Pixels did it right, but there is a big added cost to adding all the necessary hardware." source: discuss.grapheneos.org/d/1378-will-face-unlock-be-an-option-with-grapheneos/9
I need a phone and librem 5 has a year delivery, and the US one is likely deliberately backdoored by threat from gov thugs. So is pixel 7 pro equally supported, and why did you go with just 7, as I assume you can buy anything you want. This graphene ticks most of my boxes except hardware switches, which would be quite the feat for software.
My main requirement was a device that supports GrapheneOS. At this time, the only option is the Google Pixel. I went with the 7 because newer hardware = longer support + it has the newer, Titan M2. I also want to mention that if I wasn't making videos for the internet on GrapheneOS, I would have stuck with my older Pixel and not purchased a new one because that 6 was perfectly fine. I've heard mixed reviews on the librem 5, so that wasn't on the table for me.
"Error: The requested filer could not be read, typically due to permission problems that have occurred after a reference to a file was acquired." Got it half way through flash release. Anyone have a solution to this?
I have to say I absolutely hate this phone and it's software. All the rave reviews. They have been paid. I would rather have a Galaxy s7 or S8 with Lineage OS. I cannot describe just how much I hate this phone .I cannot wait to get rid of it. I hope somebody steals it lol
I can confirm the reviews are not paid. Everyone has their opinion, to each their own. Make a video comparison and post it, I would be interested in your findings.
Hello mate, Google advertising this phone as most secured one, my friend's pixel device was stolen recently we tried everything but couldn't locate the device. im really concerned that anyone can disable data,Wi-Fi, location and even can put the device in aeroplane mode in lock screen without knowing the password or pin. Is there any way to block accessing status bar/quick settings in lock screen? I recently bought P7 Pro 256 but really missing My Huawei P50 Pro.Thanks for this video.
Unfortunately, not that I'm aware of at this time. The impacts of someone doing that should be minimal. Your data will be safe regardless, as long as you used a strong enough pin code. An extra protection would be to enable auto-reboot.
Kindly let me know a desktop/laptop OS that is both private + secure, and I'm willing to try it. Apple is by no means privacy-friendly, but it is secure. Linux is private, but it's not secure + it lacks verified boot - madaidans-insecurities.github.io/security-privacy-advice.html. You can't have privacy without security. I'm hoping GrapheneOS will support the Pixel tablet when it's released. That *should* help me use MacOS a bit less for my day-to-day activities.
@@sideofburritos surely you can't have privacy at all if the product isnt privacy oriented, but if it lacks some security features, and the ones you showed only applies for physical attacks, surely its better right?

Hmm, I can't find the original comment, so I don't know exactly what I wrote/asked. 1. Different cable 2. Does your computer have more than 4GB of RAM? 3. Your old phone, is it Android? You can connect a USB cable between the devices and try the installation from your old phone's browser.

I'm impressed. The way you explain, your presentation and what needs to be done is perfect. Thank you. Subbed.
Thank u for creating this guide👍 Would u consider Calyx OS as well besides Graphene?
No, I no longer recommend CalyxOS. GrapheneOS has full compatibility for apps with their sandboxed play service + various security and privacy improvements.
Absaloute stellar video. A great guide for sure! Im now on my way to peace, privacy and effiency! Cheers :)
@@sideofburritos thanks for the advice. I have an existing phone but do not want to pull it's sim card. I guess I'll look into the esim.
Hi Josh, thanks for the great videos! Question, does a google pixel watch work with a google pixel running grapheneos?
Hi there, you're welcome! I've never personally use it, but I was following this thread, and it looks like it does - discuss.grapheneos.org/d/1236-pixel-watch-and-grapheneos/33
Thank you. Why do you skip the Hardware-based attestation? Are you familiar with it? Do you recommend doing it?
I don't include that in the installation video. I use it, I would recommend it.
Hey, I had a question. Is the Pixel 7's face unlock supported in Graphene OS ?
They're still undecided about it:
===
We might not add Pixel 7 face unlock support partly because it's much lower security than Pixel 4 face unlock.
Pixel 4 had dual infrared cameras + dot projector + flood illuminator which provided a more secure approach than a fingerprint scanner. Pixel 7 approach is far worse.

Great tutorial, I want switch to grapheneos I loved it even more since they ve added sandboxed services; there is just one thing, I am kind of gamer, could you do a video about game performance and compare it to the stock android of the same phone.
Thank you,
Amazing walk through, thank you!

----
The Play Store provides many services used by apps including Play Asset Delivery, Play Feature Delivery, in-app purchases and license checks for paid apps. The Play Store app is also the most secure way to install and update apps from the Play Store.
----
source: grapheneos.org/usage#sandboxed-google-play-installation
@@sideofburritos
Yes. Tried to avoid it. 😉 Have Aurora, AuroraDroid, Neo Store, F-Droid and this complicates it more than expected.
Thanks for the great content sir!

Happening to start from a position of no default connections to Google nor having their proprietary apps installed by defauly is a Bob Ross-ian Happy Accident for those of us looking to reduce and restrict our exposure to BigG." - discuss.grapheneos.org/d/1420-google-play-store-and-degoogle
If you need to use Google and their services, GrapheneOS provides a great option for that compatibility.
Dear, will graphene os work on pixel 7/7 pro bought in India, & also will our networks support graphene os
Good luck!

I just looked at the requirements for doing this graphene only to find that none of the browsers for Ubuntu are acceptable even though Ubuntu is an acceptable OS to install from.
I am trying to Install and the Discord has been of no help. Not sure what is the best direction for support
Discord/matrix is the best place to ask. Make sure you're using a supported browser (try chrome or brave) and 9 times out of 10, the issue is the USB cable.
Pixel 7's display supports 90 Hz. However, after installing GrapheneOS, does it still support 90 Hz ? Or it goes back to 60 ?

So to just double check. So if it is a Verison phone. Once it becomes carrier unlocked… would it then be able to be “OEM Unlocked”? Right?
Verizon branded pixels will never support OEM unlocking. They're the only carrier I'm aware of that does this. If the phone is sold as a "Verizon Pixel" the device serial will not allow OEM unlocking.
When I try to Flash, it says on the web installer, "Error: Failed to execute 'transferIn' on 'USBDevice': A transfer error has occurred." Same error message when I try Ubuntu or Windows 11 using Brave. Pixel 7 Pro. On the phone screen it says fastbootd. Any suggestions?
Try using a different USB cable.
same problem with me too, even changed USB ... still like that
I winded up doing it from my old phone instead of PC and worked.
----
You can obtain the driver from Windows Update which will detect it as an optional update when the device is booted into the bootloader interface and connected to the computer. Open Windows Update, run a check for updates and then open the "View optional updates" interface. Install the driver for the Android bootloader interface as an optional update.
----
is it possible to root pixel after this os is installed??
No, that opens you up to a whole other attack surface and is not supported. ex. an attacker compromises your device, obtains root access, and cant easily maintain persistence. You lose verified boot and automatic updates.
OK thanks for the reply.
Guys, can I use face unlock on the pixel 7 pro with graphene os?
