FairMail allows to set a PIN, in case someone accesses your device unlocked. Should be fine to install and carry it. GOS security is already good to be fair, so your device is probably safer than your desktop anyways, despite for caring your device around, assuming, nobody is peaking for your PINs.
Your password manager should also be locked with some kind of MFA, usually a password/PIN + biometric. This can be done with the Bitwarden app. Not sure about 1Password.

Thank you for your great and informative videos! You bring it all down to the lower shelf so that even I can understand *most* of this OS. However, there's an area of this system that I'm struggling with - the additional User Profiles. So, I bought my Pixel 4 and installed the OS from the GrapheneOS website using the auto install method. I left it as installed for a few days then started adding some apps that I am used to using on my iPhone (YUK! I'm so ready to migrate COMPLETELY to the Pixel and G/OS!). I am not 100% clear on the Permissions for apps such as the sandbox version of G/Play Store. I only installed the Framework app and not sure if that's all I need..? Secondly - I NEED to run an app for a work related reason and it definitely needs all the Google stuff because of GPS etc. since it is a delivery business. Here's where I really need advice...I created a new profile that I will need to allow Google to do its "thing" with all the spying etc. I installed all 3 or 4 of the System Google apps and I'm currently trying to get this work related app installed and running but having a bit of trouble! (I might mention that I am having to switch my SIM card back n forth from the iPhone to the Pixel and that's what I want to cease doing! PITA!) So what I am experiencing with that app is that it wants to send an SMS text with a code so I can log into it, but I get an error stating something to the affect that I do not have Owner permission. What do I need to do to allow this second profile be able to receive SMS texting? TIA for any replies. I will try to monitor this thread closely!
Hi there, thanks! That my goal with my videos, so I'm glad to hear that comes across! 1. If you're just trying to get notifications to work, typically all that's needed is `Google Services Framework`. If an app needs more, then you should install all 3. It's important to note that Google Play Store is more than just the store. It provides some functionality an app may need. Some people don't install it because they think it's only the Play Store, but it does more. One other note, if you install an app BEFORE you install and of the sandboxed Google Play Services you will need to reinstall the app, so it will detect the Google Play Services are installed, and it will use them. 2. My guess on your second issue is that the new profile doesn't have SMS permissions and so it's failing. To fix that go to `Settings` -> `System` -> `Multiple users` -> Select the profile name having issues -> Make sure `Turn on phone calls & SMS` is enabled. Hope that helps!

Hey, nice video, I know that one year passed and a lot changed. Your apps are probably very different now but a quick question about the profiles, if you have time to answer this one. I just got a Pixel and flashed GrapheneOS on it, I built two distinct profiles, similar to what you did. In my burner profile I have unfortunately private messaging apps that I share pictures, in the main profile I also need to share pictures or sync with my backup. Is there any particular reason you prefer Plex over Jellyfin? I don't use either, but I know Jellyfin is libre software, and everyone I've talked to prefers Jellyfin since Plex places everything behind a paywall
I've never really tried Jellyfin. I've been using Plex for ~8 years it's been working find for my needs, so I never switched. Plex works well without paying, the only paywall feature that is probably the biggest issue for most people is local syncing with a device. I tested Emby in the past, but the remote streaming didn't work as well as Plex and for me that's a feature I use a lot.
@SideOfBurritos, Hi I'm new to all of this. Can you explain why you have your camera apps on your burner profile and how / why signal on both profiles? For example if I had my phone setup similar to yours and I was using my burner profile and made a phone call would I have to make the phone call using a voip app or could make that phone using the sim card? I apologize if I am not making sense. I am just trying to understand the user vs guest profile.
Sure, good questions! I have 2 cameras on my burner profile because I have the google camera app on that profile for testing. The google camera app requires Google Play Services, and I only have those installed on a separate profile. For signal, I was testing a VOIP app called "Burner" and since I had that app I had Signal on my "Burner" profile with the VOIP number. While my main owner profile has signal with my SIM number. Haha, good luck. I still have friends that refuse to use anything else besides SMS. At least WhatsApp is E2EE. You can try getting them over to something else like Signal, but the best option unfortunately will probably just to keep whatsapp and to keep it on a separate user profile.
I am always telling everyone that WA is spyware and I do not support that. They can select one of the messengers I have. That is working so far. Most people have more than one messenger installed anyway.
It depends on the app, but it should. Which app are you curious about? I can test it out and see if it loads with and without google play services installed.

When you say google apps do you mean the sandboxed google play services? If you mean google apps like gboard, I would use the network toggle in the settings instead of netguard (if you're using GrapheneOS) - th-cam.com/video/hx2eiPTe7Zg/w-d-xo.html
How do you sync bookmarks and tabs with vanadium?
There's no syncing support for bookmarks and tabs. If I need a link on mobile and desktop I just use the signal "note to self" feature and open it on my phone.
What desktop do you use?
Mac Mini running MacOS and I also have a laptop running Fedora.
It's awesome, someone who does not have installed Facebook and whatsapp!! All my family, friends and workmates use whatsapp. It's so anoying but I can't uninstall whatsapp if I want to be in contact. I really don't know what to do about this. I'm going to try to scare them about using Whatsapp, any ideas?
Haha, good luck. I still have friends that refuse to use anything else besides SMS. At least WhatsApp is E2EE. You can try getting them over to something else like Signal, but the best option unfortunately will probably just to keep whatsapp and to keep it on a separate user profile.
use Element with whatsapp bridge
I am always telling everyone that WA is spyware and I do not support that. They can select one of the messengers I have. That is working so far. Most people have more than one messenger installed anyway.
Will streaming apps work on this os without Google stuff?
It depends on the app, but it should. Which app are you curious about? I can test it out and see if it loads with and without google play services installed.
@@sideofburritos thanks for the offer but I’m good. I saw your videos on profiles and that seems like a solution to just have profile with some google stuff if needed for streaming apps.
You have not install VPN on the sandboxed user?
Nope, I don't.
@@sideofburritosits no necessary ?
Hi, do you have a recommandation for an alternative to the native recorder app on pixel phones ? I use a 4a 5g and I mainly record music. Unfortunately, it doesn't do auto-gain and the result is recordings with a high level of saturation.
Thanks for all the knowledge you share with us btw. Cheers
Hi there, hmmm. If you're on GrapheneOS I would say just use a separate user profile with Google Play Services and use the Google recorder app. I'm assuming the native recorder app you're referring to is the Google recorder app?
I wonder why there is no aurora store

Sorry for that stupid questions and thanks for the answer. I’ve watched many of your Graphene Videos several times and the more often I watch them, the lower my attention is🙈. Thanks for your great Content and greetings from Germany
@@Wer_baut_dann_die_Strassen Haha, no worries at all. I actually had to go and check in the video to make sure I didn't forget it. As someone who watches a lot of videos on TH-cam (probably more than I should) I understand the decreased attention span.
Does the other person need to have Signal app install for me to text them?
In order to use the encrypted communication through signal the other person will also need signal installed.
@@sideofburritos Ok Thanks for your response.
WTF is thwt thumbnail 🤣
most of things seems alright, but cloud pw manager is a red flag to me
I still think for most people a cloud password manager is better than reusing passwords for sites.
A cloud solution from specialists is more secure than a local installation from a non-specialist.
They have a long article on the page how it is working.

I think osmand~ is muuuuch better then magic earth in my opinion, but thank you for sharing :D
Thanks for the suggestion! I've been meaning to test out the different app options.
