This was one of my favorite movies in 1971. I saw this at a drive-in theater when it first opened. Now I have the DVD. I still remember most of the details, after not having seen this film for 38+ years. A classic.

One of mine too. Still is. My kids and I have been doing movie nights at home - "Popcorn & Pandemics." This was the first movie we watched. Classic.

We purposely shot a scene of the film I wrote, 'THE BANKER' (1989 - Robert Forster, Duncan Regehr, Shanna Reed) at the 'DEPARTMENT OF WATER & POWER BLDG' as I fell in love with it from 'THE OMEGA MAN' ...
... and so, I had a field day being in the same place as 'Robert Neville' was.
Thanks for covering some of the shooting locations from a favorite movie of my youth.
What you did for the memory of films and locations matters. Bravo-!

Loved that you added the movie soundtrack to this. Really added to it. Wish there'd been more locations shown - but thanks for the time and the effort regardless.

I was shocked at the end when he got killed with the spear. Very disheartening as a kid.

The shot mainly on Sundays. LA had 'blue laws' back then, which prohibited business on Sunday.

There's also a street set, located in Burbank on the Warner Brothers lot, which was used for some other scenes on OM as well as many other productions. This includes the courthouse where The Family lives, which was also Gotham City Police HQ in 1966's Batman. Further down is a housing set that is closed off to tourists, where Neville's home is located. Homes from Bewitched and other TV shows also there. The shrubbery and hexagonal fountain outside Neville's place is all fake, however, unseen in the film is a different (larger, circular) fountain nearby on the same lawn: this fountain was used in Bewitched, and in the opening of Friends.

Dellaluna13 If Bewitched was mentioned then it follows I Dream of Jeannie's filming location is nearby - kudos.

The fountain you mentioned where Neville's get harpooned by Matthias at the end of the movie is located in the same spot where the opening of "Friends" was filmed where their on the couch splashing around in the fountain. I was on the Warner tour 5 years ago and the tour guide pointed that out. Incidentally, the tour at Warner Brothers is better than Universals. The guides will actually stop the tram car, let you get out, walk around and fill you in on behind the scene trivia.

The opening scene where Heston stops his car and pulls out his M76 and shoots at the upstairs window, the part where he is driving up the street before he stops, I saw that same street on another television show, I can't remember if it was Adam 12 or Dragnet, but it was the same street. I don't know if it was a studio lot or not.

@robertmark34 i love when movies use real LA locations! (i used to live in LA from 1985 to 1995 ). theres a scene in ''PHANTASM IV '' that has Angus Scrimm standing all alone out in the middle of WILSHIRE BLVD in west LA, my guess is that scene was shot early on a sunday morning also ,another movie that shot early am on weekends in Downtown L A was 1984 film ''NIGHT OF THE COMET'' starring Catherine Mary Stewart

LA has some strange weather phenomena where the sky is almost tomato red in the mornings, it was seen at the beginning of Beverly Hills cop too. I'm guessing the desert somehow causes it.

I remember Neville hunting for the Family in "The Hotel Premiere". Anyone know if that was an actual hotel or just a movie set? Had a pretty fancy lobby.

    • @dpsamu2000
      @dpsamu2000 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It's a real hotel. I was delivering packages in the 1980s one to the manager there. Went in the back way to find the room to deliver the package. Turned a corner to find myself at the top of the stairs in that lobby. Looked almost exactly as it did in the movie. Only 13 years after the movie had been made. Found the manager's office which was the same room outside of which Heston finds the sardine can in the trash. Same door, and quite frankly I suspect even the same grimy looking paint. Talked to the manager about it. He confirmed it. The building was being renovated at the time. I told him how nice it was that such places were being preserved. He was glad to hear that. Several years later the building was on the hit list for demolition but was opposed by preservationists. They won, and the building is still there. But the lobby has been changed since then. No where near as nice. The balconies have been walled over. Many features have been removed. With the walled off balconies the whole thing looks much smaller, and ordinary. The hotel has pictures online.

@@michaellong3836 millenium biltmore hotel 517 s olive That's biltmore not builtmore. Very famous hotel. There's a website. They've remodeled again. A very poorly curated wiki article. Someone removed the Omega Man in the movies filmed there. They also mention Beverly hills cop 1974. No Beverly hills cop is not 1974. Part of the general attack on wiki by trolls. Very unreliable. But it's something. Some of data in the article is true. I remember when I lived there and read the news paper. There were some articles about it once in a while. They often mention its famous history.

I agree with you. Having grown up in the 60's and 70's and having a frame of reference it was cool when things were more laid back. This 80's obsession with working constantly sucks. Take a look at the Europeans, they take it more laid back and they don't have all the health issue and many of them live longer lives.

Given the popularity of the zombie genre, I'm surprised this isn't a TV series.
