from his effortless wordplay, the great and deep use of samples, the multilayered way of making album across all his personas of characters, there will never be one like him. R.I.P MF DOOM.
Absolutely doesn’t feel like DOOM is gone. It still feels like any day a new DOOM project can drop. He is just one of those figures in Hip Hop that was a recluse living legend. It was nice knowing he could always put the mask on here and there and then take it off and live his life with his family as Daniel. RIP DOOM gone way too soon ❤
What I love about Kon Karne is the random beaming noises in the background. The song is about his later brother, DJ Subroc, and DOOM giving a heartfelt tribute to him. The beaming background noises I like to see as is gasps for air. Almost as an effort to stop crying. Truly beautiful
Dude every main sample on this album on its own are BANGERS, no exception. The one on rapp snitch knishes is a guitar solo of a cover of space oddity for _a_ dune soundtrack. Insane.
usually you manage to stitch songs together so seamlessly that I don't really notice, but this one is just so insane. I noticed every single skip, the songs have just such a strong story-like rising and falling that just feels jarring when a part gets skipped. Or maybe I just like this album a little much.
I get you it’s the lack of choruses and the fact DOOM just relentlessly rhymes. Kinda overwhelming on first listen tbh for me but consistently in my top 3 most listened artists for years now
@@Donny-qj4tf honestly these cuts weren't really avoidable, this album has fourteen songs and most of there are four minutes long, its a really long one. also, doom is a storyteller, if you chop his stories it will sound weird doesnt matter what u do
I think a major reason DOOM never really feels like he's gone unlike someone like Mac is that in Mac's songs you can feel it's him Mac the person so upon relistening it really hits you. Unlike DOOM who is not a person but more like an idea someone who exist only in the music, thus making it feel as if he's never felt because he exist only though the music. But sometimes in the music we meet Daniel Dumile, in songs like ?, Op Doomsday, and kan carne. Those songs all have a focus on Daniels brother, it's now Daniel rapping not the character of DOOM and in those moments we realize that he's gone similar to how you feel with Mac. Or at least that's how I think I works
Completely agree with your comment about DOOM’s passing. He managed to stay so low key but create a legacy so legendary, he became almost like a mythical creature. He created an immortal character that lives forever through his music.
Man, on his debut album, the song "?" makes me tear up near the end. I've read a lot about Dumile. Having his brother die, label dropping their group, becoming homeless and all to return to get revenge as MF DOOM. What a creative and proactive way to go about it. But sadly he dealt with depression and alcoholism. What's fucked up is nobody seems to know the real reason his brother died. Many claimed he was actually running away at the time then got hit by a car when crossing. But some say that's bs. That they got to him. And whatever it was, it was best left alone. Also no snitching was a bigger deal back then. So it would've never been made public even if dealt with afterwards. But I have a feeling he had to move on and leave that shit behind, which killed him inside. Dumile was then not allowed back into the US a few years ago which made him stay in his home country, the UK. He lived in London until he passed, iirc. Definitely read about him and watch the different videos fans have put together. Little documentaries and such. Gives you an idea as to what was happening. You'll have to dig through the internet to find more details and possible things that happened to Sub Roc.
That last part gets me every time too. That he keeps a picture of his brother and how everything is going according to plan, but his brother isn't there to witness it. Doom did it for his brother. 😭

All the skit stuff can sometimes be found under METAL FINGERS. Makes you appreciate it. Instrumentals have become essential to me recently. Especially as I've grown to learn and love so many other genres, and all the subgenres too lol. But going back to my first love, Hip-Hop, it makes me appreciate the song in a whole other way. Yes we all hear a beat. But listen to an instrumental on its own. You might find minor details you missed or stuff overshadowed by vocals. Easter eggs sometimes too. Not all Hip-Hop but a lot. I love DJ Premier's stuff for example. So good even without vocals.

HELL YEAH, I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! While i think its fair to call Madvillainy DOOM's best album, this is absolutely his number 1 for me. Practically every track is a classic, he just can't be beat on here.
It just hits me with the nostalgic memory of all of us watching Boomerang and Adult Swim playing the N64 and Gamecube at my Grandmas house, and she is listening to Anita Baker etc. DOOM capsuled that memory for me...
spent yesterday looking for a "dad reacts to mm.. food" for like five or six minutes lol, even sorted by new and everything. I wake up today to this. Pog.
Funny what you said about it not feeling like DOOM is gone. To me he was always such an enigma and mythicised rapper it never really felt like he was actually here in the first place. And I've seen him in concert... twice! Great video!
Count Bass D, the feature on Potholderz, also produced it’s instrumental. If you like it, he’s got a couple albums to himself, most notably “Dwight Spitz” from 2002. I recently uploaded the full album, so I hope you can check that out!
Hoe Cakes man.....one of the greatest nights of my life. Bunch of us took a shot every time DOOM said "Super" during the track multiple times throughout the night.
I think also his profound impact on some of the artists he collaboratted or recorded with after doom like czarface, dwight spitz, trying to locate mr fantastik :D etc. And I like theczarface collab it really feels like it helped Inspectah Deck comem back to his won, by also embracing the mask and just letting him and 7L with Estoreci to be more creative in their future projects. Some songs released by the artists have this feel like he had somethign to do with it still. It's still saddening to know no more project by him, or who knows maybe there another alter ego released we havent found. Either way it on constant repeat in my life the lyrics just don't get old
yeah i definitely feel that same way, i don't think about how he's gone when i listen to him now, i think because mac miller was a person, with interviews and a public personality and MF DOOM was a character. Every time I listen to him he is still alive even his character's storyline is over.
Hearing the One Beer sample makes me want you to show your dad Kush & OJ so bad lol. One of my favorite mixtapes ever next to Faces, K.I.D.S., and A Kid Named Cudi

Love the reaction, this is one of my favorites, Doom is timeless and my great-grandchildren will listen to him like classical composers.
HELL YEAH, I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! While i think its fair to call Madvillainy DOOM's best album, this is absolutely his number 1 for me. Practically every track is a classic, he just can't be beat on here.
It's so hard to say. Danger Doom and Born Like This are also in the conversation imo
@@seanfrank32 those are definitely good, but i'd say Bring me to your leader and Vaudeville villain are higher up for me
@@khalewren2734 His whole catalogue is classic lol Madvilliany is in the list of all time great rap albums though.
@@seanfrank32 oh totally
Love this album and loved the reaction, also love Connors outfits man has a great style
It just hits me with the nostalgic memory of all of us watching Boomerang and Adult Swim playing the N64 and Gamecube at my Grandmas house, and she is listening to Anita Baker etc.
DOOM capsuled that memory for me...
For a time I kept referring people who like MF Doom to King Geedorah (one of my favs of all time).
I was so hype to learn it was him too.
spent yesterday looking for a "dad reacts to mm.. food" for like five or six minutes lol, even sorted by new and everything.
I wake up today to this. Pog.
Funny what you said about it not feeling like DOOM is gone. To me he was always such an enigma and mythicised rapper it never really felt like he was actually here in the first place. And I've seen him in concert... twice! Great video!
this is exactly what I needed today I love you
Fun fact Mm..Food is an anagram of MF DOOM
I’ve been going through a funk, and played this video and can’t stop smiling. Love you guys from the bottom of my heart ♥️ REST IN POWER DOOM 🐐💜
@23:43 I think it might be because DOOM was never really here to begin with, he's always been on a different plane of existence.
It was everything I hoped for! Kevin is officially vibing to dooms incredible humor and that makes me happy. Hope all is well fellas 🤙 all the best!
i shouted hard when i see this thumbnail, your father is a legend
Love watching you fall in love with DOOM, someday i hope you get to "Let Me watch" on his viktor Vaugn record, such a great song, if not the best :-)
Was waiting for this one since you first asked what hip-hop records you should react to. Great reaction
Deep Fried Frenz is a MASTERPIECE, this whole album is
Technically one beer should be familiar for all the heartaches of realizing you’re down to one beer left
you’re definitely right, it does not feel like DOOM has passed away when you hear his music.
Every time I listen to him he is still alive even his character's storyline is over.
the guitar hook is from David Matthwes - Space Oddity(cover from bowie) if ur curious. really short sample, but amazing
i feel the same Connor, it just doesn't feel real that Doom is gone. Rest in Power
Hearing the One Beer sample makes me want you to show your dad Kush & OJ so bad lol. One of my favorite mixtapes ever next to Faces, K.I.D.S., and A Kid Named Cudi
i love potholderz so much bro its my favorite song.
This is such a great album, so happy they’re finally reacting to this
I remember a rapper said "DOOM can't rap like me but I can't make a record like he can."
MF DOOM is Imagine Personified
It’s crazy because there’s so many layers to this album that even connor doesn’t know
for example he was not talking about food on that last track😂
Keep up the good work guys! I was waiting for this album review! Great content!
Speaking of Joey Badass, you got to do 1999!!!
Let’s goooo, one of my favorite albums. Y’all need to do Operation Doomsday next!
this album hits so clean on a rainy friday my homie u got the pass 🤐
they definitely should make another but itll probably be another year before that happens :(
