What a beauty. Such enormous improvement. Her voicing and interpretation makes me speechless. Good luck for Ms. Kobayashi this year... The talent is already granted. Keep up the good work until the final!
The more I listen to her participation in this edition of the competition, the more fascinated I am with her versions, and the more I am convinced that she should have been the winner,
この子のノクターン、ほんとにいいね こんなに切ないノクターンは聴いたことがない。 久々に響く Her Nocturne is really beautiful. I have never listen to such sorrowful Nocturne. It resonates to my hart after a long time
I already loved her playing thinking it's very matured and deep at earlier competition. She comes and shows again that she even made her Chopin richer this year. Brava.
I read a comment that Sokolov had great praise for her,but that she did not live up to expectations and that he was just kind.I last saw her playing as a child and she was astonishing!I am sure that it was an unfair comment coming from someone with bad judgement. This performance tells it all.
Aimi Kobayashi (Japan) *18th International Chopin Competition* *1st Stage, Morning Session, 1.30 - 2 pm, October 7, 2021* 00:17 Nocturne in F-Sharp Minor Op. 48 No. 2 08:15 Étude in A Minor Op. 25 No. 11 12:30 Étude in A-Flat Major Op. 10 No. 10 15:26 Scherzo in E Major Op. 54 26:29 *Applause* Aimi Kobayashi, piano
Stupendous playing, great maturity and poetic, thoughtful renderings of the works, great technique but not drawing excessive attention to itself- all in the service of the music, just as Chopin intended. As another commenter suggested: the only participant I put everything else aside to listen to. Really hoping she’ll win. She’s the genuine article, a genuine artist. Btw, such a refreshing departure from some or the flash and theatrics we get nowadays. Refined, noble, aristocratic, exactly in the Chopin ethos.
Watching this a few years after the 2021 competition, and I can say Aimi’s performances have aged so much better than the other competitors’. These are the only ones from that competition that I want to come back to, for the authentic poetic experience. This is REAL Chopin, not competition pianithletics.
Awesome performance. I also love that she doesn't make the circus like facial gestures and body sways, looking up at the stars and histrionics that has become a viral infection among so many otherwise talented modern pianists, and quite frankly a major distraction from the actual music. Rather, she comes across poised and mature, and the performance demands respect and makes me want to stay engaged. I hope she influences other young performers.
The body sways (perhaps among other seeming “histrionics”, but certainly the body sways) are probably not the pretensions you assume, in most cases. These things get thought about and discussed a fair amount among pianists because they are automatic and involuntary (again, primarily addressing the body sways). But I share your suspicion about looking up at the stars with alternating grimaces and beatific entranced smiles, head shakes and other seemingly histrionic “body language”. I don’t claim to be a good (certainly amateur) pianist, but I find the body automatically sways back and forth for whatever reason. It’s sort of like the natural movement of hands while walking, the opposite foot-hand moving parallel to each other. Don’t know why it occurs.
@@AnonYmous-ry2jn Right. I’m referring exclusively to the theatrics that are obviously forced - and that show up way too often. She comes across as adult and mature, beyond such nonsense.
I agree that the facial expressions are just a “viral infection” as you say. I can understand a bit of the body sway as sometimes you want to add in extra force or lean it keep the to lean away. The faces and grimaces are often absolutely unbearable. Alexandre Kanterow, is a young genius who makes none of these facial grimaces. Shishkin can be a bit annoying with his facial expressions.
I totally agree with you . It’s becomes theatrical to watch theses expressions theses days . You don’t need these showmanship to play the music . I prefer the style of old masters like Horowitz or Richter which doesn’t distract to listen to the music .
Listening to all these wonderful pianists give me faith in humanity! Congrats to Aimi and all others at this competition who dedicate themselves to this music :)
Nie zmarnowała tych 6 lat od 2015 r. Schudła, wydoroślała, dojrzała, także emocjonalnie i duchowo. Wspaniała artystka, do głębi poznała duchowe piękno tej muzyki i umie je pokazać. Brava madame Aimi.
Aimi, you are the best Japanese pianist I have ever heard in my life. One of the best young pianists around the world! What a deep sense of drama and passion you present! I wish you all the best in the competitions and in your life as well . Love from British Columbia, Canada.
It was an eye-catching performance. The last competition performance was good, but this competition performance is really great. And short hair and dress look so good on you. 😍 I'll cheer for you.
she looks on very good form, may there be a close fight. what can i say, she has it all, just a matter of performance on the night, there is no doubt that she will be in the final yet again
I’m glad she went back to the competition!! I remember her being a child prodigy and then a few years later joined Chopin competition but her nerves got the best of her. She’s improved tremendously I am really proud.
Me too, I'm sooooo happy she is back. It's a surprise, I didn't expect it. I still remember her sad "empty" face when she didn't receive any prize at the final 6 years ago, I felt so much for her. And indeed, she is back at another level of maturity. I'm all for her.
I watched the video, I often do that just before the show, You have to hit your hands to get yourself excited. In short, they are doing what they want.
Beautiful sounds and impressive performance. She was much better than any one else and it seems like she has something that shows what the works of Chopin should be. Thank you and good luck
Wow. She made the Winter Wind etude completely fresh! How did she do that? I have heard it countless times and though always impressive to hear never moved me musically like this performance.
