For me vocals is one of those things I can forgive if you can give a great performance cause singing and dancing isn’t always easy no matter how much you train to do it and a only a select few can do it flawlessly but the paid views or streaming stuff I really don’t like nor pertake in cause it’s not organic, people are purposely having songs/videos on repeat to drive up the numbers and in the end what does it prove since it’s not organic, to me it proves nothing except a bunch of fans nonstop repeated the song for essentially bragging rights smh
The thing is alot of people call "paid views" as inorganic. I find that not true at all. You need 30 seconds for it to count as 1 view. It's different from mass streaming just to boost a song up a chart. Now that's what people should call it as "inorganic". I'm not a numbers expert but someone on reddit break it down much better than me why watching ads is more of an organic way than mass streaming.
I miss when idols went on variety shows (not on their own channels), it really showed their individual personalities and group dynamic - and it made fans happy! I miss the 2x dance challenges, whisper games, and just the idols answering silly questions. It’s unfortunate we don’t see it nearly as often 😢
In some shows like "Idol Room" they are a direct mockery of the idols, it's enough to remind me of how they treated Changbin to understand why they didn't come back until they changed the hosts.
Can't lie the only time I really liked kpop was when 3rd gen was here there was more collabs, less scandals and everyone could interact. Now it all abt the money 😭

Music in general has gone down hill.. even in the US. Music has no meaning anymore, and people just want catchy 2 minute songs with no bridge and no meaning.. just a catchy chorus. Music now a days is like fast fashion. Just quick throw away songs that will replace with the next artist with the catchier song
You know it's a funny thing, my grandparents (born in the 1930s) used to say the same thing about music in the 1960s... Beatles and Beach Boys, the songs are too short, they're simple and meaningless "I love you, yeah yeah yeah".... they hated it. They wanted jazz, they wanted big band, they wanted proper musicians, not Ringo Starr. Then shorter songs fell out of fashion in the 1970s... then they were back in the 1980s.... then they were out of fashion again in the 1990s. It's all cyclical. What I'm saying is.... just give it a while. K-pop will continue to evolve and change.
True, because at that time, EXO, BTS, Got7, Seventeen, Twice, and Blackpink each had their own style. When I played a song, I would know who it was for in the first three seconds, but now the music is similar.
@@asre-bg4bs exactly. The overall Kpop "culture" has changed in way I can barely recognize it and it's sad. I really miss these years when every group had this uniqueness when we fans don't gave a fuck about Louis Vuitton, Paris Fashion week...
Kpop was never really about art. The priority of K-pop was always getting images of beautiful Koreans out there to be admired, so that S. Korea can position itself as the cultural center of all of Asia. That's why the industry is regulated by their government...it's a political tool.
@@stolas2240 you are right here but what I am trying to tell you is that everybody starts passionate for art but if it appealed people for different reasons like their , fashion ,looks something other than what their main motto is they definitely try to do it over and over to get that soft power you talked about especially when they are under a record lable or any major company who's motto is only commercial, but still theri are some artist who do it for the art it is like kendrick Lamar , jvak or you could say any indie artist who are not under the influence of any lable. All i wanna confess there are artists who care about art, you just need to go down non mainstream
Honestly I don't know why idols need to do vulgar dances, wearing revealing clothes and male idols always take off their shirt to show their abs. I noticed their fans now only excited to see their idols bodies, they no longer care about idols performance. When Idols outside Korea, they acting really wild, but when they back to korea, they back to their normal self.
Reason of kpop's downfall :- Trash music, debuting talentless idols who cant sing, rap, dance, paid media, company who overhype everything, low standard & zombies fans.
Music is subjective. I rather listen to music nowadays then to the old ones. Many people would call kpop music in generell trash (and yes also you guys beloved 1-3 gen music) talentless idols exist, but they also have in 1-3 gen. 4 gen has many talented idols. So please shut up

K-Pop is reaching a point of unsustainability. The genre has gone from artistic and talented groups (and soloists) to pushing out as many groups as possible in the shortest amount of time. Most idols are very hard working, but the field is saturated, resulting in quantity (for the sake of profits) over quality. Nearly everything sounds the same now, making it difficult to remember which group is singing which songs, which doesn't create "brand" loyalty.
kpop definitely isn’t like it used to be and there are a lot of factors that contribute to it: 1) companies care more about brand deals than releasing good quality music 2) idols have been conditioned to becoming emotionless robots in fear of being mass hated on for the tiniest mistake 3) the stan’s and fanbases have reached a whole new level of toxic and only gets along anymore even within their own fandom 4) kmedia is messy asf and only wants to cover news on all the bad or problematic things that happen within the industry 5) stan’s creating a safe space for saesangs and stalkers to post private info on idols just to they can use it as a “gotcha” moment in their petty little fanwars 6) there’s not much to be excited about since apparently kpop stans nowadays hate fun if i wasn’t still tuned in for the few groups that actually care about making good music, kpop would have been a thing in the past for me a long time ago.
I don’t understand fanwars. Maybe because I’m not heavily into kpop and wouldn’t say I’m in any particular fandom, but it just seems so silly? Seriously what is the point.
It used to be all about the art especially when you look at 2nd and early 3rd gen (and some part of 4th gen), but now it’s just…eh. I can’t even enjoy MUSIC now without K-pop Stan’s barking in my ear about how their favs are much better and how their favs blah blah blah like what happened to just enjoying the art and music? It’s getting so toxic
As a person who first got into kpop back in 2016, I feel saddened now. I feel like the heart of what made kpop so unique was the creativity, passion, and most of all HOPE. It wasn't afraid to be it's own genre, and in a way it had helped me to find my own strength in not being afraid to be myself. I know that things never stay the same; that they grow and change and evolve over time. But this more recent change has been like planting a healthy flower into a pretty pot filled with rotting soil. I think one of the reasons is that from the 4th generation onwards, girl groups (GGs) and boy groups (BGs) have been striving to become the 'next Blackpink' or 'next BTS'. The popularity of BTS and Blackpink in the West might have attracted labels. However, BTS never aimed to become the next Psy or Michael Jackson. Additionally, from the 4th generation onwards, due to the large number of groups, the K-pop fandom has become divided. No group has been able to amass a fandom as huge as Armys and Blinks. I'm not saying the 4th and 5th generations are merely copies of the 3rd generation or unsuccessful.
Agree. BTS early songs were all about working your hardest and being out the norm from regular kpop. I loved it. But then the sad thing is they weren't immune to the integration with the machine.
Its not coming to an end but kpop just isn’t fun anymore I remember during 4th gen ppl were saying this exaggerating but 5th gen is 10x worse there’s only like a few actually good 5th gen groups that seem unique
The fact that kpop is the ONLY music culture with “generations” is a set-up for comparison, and arguments in and of itself. How can artists have a long-term fulfilling career under those conditions? Its like sports when you age-out at 35 😂
You know I really miss 2nd generation Kpop where it was still very authentic and the idols really had skills and charisma without gimmicks, I don't know why now big agencies seem to only be looking for profit without good quality even though they previously worked hard to build the Kpop industry from 0 to become as big as now and now the big agencies don't seem to appreciate their own hard work (blood, sweat and tears) and the achievements they has fought for over the past few decades.
Jyp is one of the least authentic companies now he is a money greed monster overworking his idols making them release the same damn songs with overused concepts
It's the fact that fans appreciate and accept mediocrity from their favourite groups and be chart obsessed. These kpop labels and idols are obsessed with adopting anything from the west to feel accepted.
yesss…the charts literally kill me bc they’re so pointless. even in the west people cared more about how many physical copies you sold. digital music for anything other than the purpose of listening is the problem.
See this makes no sense to me, ur definition of mediocrity is different from others so it’s not a reason why kpop as a whole is changing. It might be a reason why kpop for you individually is changing but it’s fine if people like groups that r “mediocre” to you…. It’s nit the end of the world, I do think charts is a issue tho
Yes it's there even in the West and the chart obsessed gather especially on X. To hear them big artists like Ariana Grande or Taylor Swift etc are flops..... doesn't that remind of kpop stans throwing nugu and flop at everyone?
Thanks for this. So refreshing to see a video address the facts. While I love kpop still...we're seeing even the groups with consistent quality music starting to fall into these "trends"..and I'm not liking where it's headed.

Why single out HYBE only, YG and SM were the blueprint for this. Gdragon started his sponsorships around the same time girls generation began sponsoring korean brands and then onto bigger international fashion labels with Yoona and yuri spearheading the campaigns. Onto the third generation both YG and sm negotiated for blackpink and red velvet respectively to also have sponsorships at almost the beggining of their carrers (which is why jennie got so much hate as well, back then) and by then the entire industry started catching up to the fact that sponsorship was simply another bussiness strategy. EXO will never be a flop group, no matter how they do on charts. They still make amazing quality music with over 3-4 minutes songs and with the best vocals and the most versatile music in the industry. They don't make music for tiktok and charts, they make music for music lovers. That's why their 11 years old winter song gets viral every year and breaks records left and right.
I think the issue is that there is so much saturation these days of new groups debuting left and right that these "older groups" have to keep up, adding to the pressure and toxicity to the Kpop scene. Especially when these newer groups, like mentioned in the video, are already getting gigs BEFORE they even debut and receive bigger and better opportunities AFTER their debut. It's wild that these luxury brands are booking these idols as ambassadors even before their debut. And why are these companies even allowing this when this group isn't even officially debuted yet? And i get it - money! But they're not even officially debuted yet though! They're not a thing. But with all that said, i dont think Kpop has gotten worse than before per se. It's just a different landscape. Not better or worse. Just my opinion though!
Not gonna lie, I left K-pop world. I’m a full blown VIP and added EXO along the way. These said I’m listening only to the two bands including all solos and return to my other bands from the past. I think 3rd Gen was the last fun for me.
This is just "enshittification" (best known in software development) because greedy suits make it so. Kpop chasing brand deals, cutting quality, and axing groups that don't gross millions of dollars instantly is all because some greedy executives can't settle for a lot of money; they want all of the money.
Seeing "enshittification" in reference to a Kpop video? Take my upvote! I will also add, as others have, that the fans are weird as f*ck. Like, getting into weird Twitter fights with each other, dragging the idols down with them, and making up stupid "scandals." That's not the music industry, that's us, collectively. Vocals and paid views are the things make me distance from Kpop

Great point
Because catchy songs are more popular. Music is subjective, so saying it has gotten downhill is always a little 😮 for me 😊

K-Pop is reaching a point of unsustainability. The genre has gone from artistic and talented groups (and soloists) to pushing out as many groups as possible in the shortest amount of time. 3) the stan’s and fanbases have reached a whole new level of toxic and only gets along anymore even within their own fandom
4) kmedia is messy asf and only wants to cover news on all the bad or problematic things that happen within the industry
5) stan’s creating a safe space for saesangs and stalkers to post private info on idols just to they can use it as a “gotcha” moment in their petty little fanwars

It all happened because bts and blackpink got famous now. Everyone wants to out reach them and say we are more famous
It will never happen, no one will ever top BTS in terms of influence and impact, BTS is a rarity not a daily occurence.
no one will ever top BTS - BP never did half of what BTS did or achieved, nor impact. BP just came from a big three and gained traction for their girl crush image, by far the least talented of several female idols. they were mediocre at best and barely sound good live.
@@michinsaeggi-dakcho black pink
Is the most successful girl group in history and BTS is the most successful boy group
There is no competition 😠
K-pop would not be falling if BTS and Blackpink never break into the western markets. Other companies saw this as an opportunity to push their groups into the US market and now so much companies now want to turn their groups into the new BTS or the new Blackpink
@@aliakhtar7118 no, the best selling girl group of all time is the spice girls and second is TLC. regardless, I like BP too but it’s clear as day that they never had any actual impact outside of the girl crush image, the boys wanting them and the gays and girls wanting to be them. successful isn’t charts and TH-cam views, they didn’t do variety shows, they didn’t go to Grammys, they didn’t do UNICEF campaigns, they didn’t do any global things outside of modeling. no impact, it’s ridiculous for them to even be taken serious bc they aren’t even as talented as other gg, and that’s fact. they barely can sing live and rapping isn’t even as hard as singing and Lisa couldn’t even do that well.
After the 2nd generation and 3rd generation (with a few exceptions in the 4th generation) it really fell off. I will say that.
I miss the days when I started to listen to Kpop in 2006 😢 no fan wars, no social media pressure, groups having fun with other groups good times.
No fan wars??? Wow you missed a looot of HOT vs GOD hahaha so
@@TheZeus012345678 HOT was more 1st gen than 2nd but it is true that THAT fanwar was something else. But I meant more online fan wars like not able to stand multiple groups or going to other videos bashing etc.
Lol fanwars existed even then, the only difference is earlier it used to be physical fights and now its online fights🤷♀️
Girls Generation black ocean episode 😅
NO FAN WARS??!!! it used to be much worse..
They are now dance groups… no longer music groups…
K Pop is more and more americanized ... 😢
Exactly 💯
Uh... Not only just America the entire world... It's just that people attack Americans for ruining kpop .. it's not becoming Americanized it's becoming more westernized etc. Your technically saying america is the only vulg@r country but it's not take a look at Europe and other countries in Asia...😅
Westernized perhaps, they still have A-Pink who are timeless 2nd gen still around and still stick to k-pop more than BTS.
I get what u mean but at the same kpop took a huge inspo and influence from western music ever since its creation so to speak
@@bobsayshello7112I think they mean that K-pop groups are now using so many English words in there songs
Kpop is going downhill because of one and only thing: Company Greed
Cough cough hybe
I cant say I feel like Kpop is coming to a end anytime soon. The landscape is getting a bit oversaturated as far as groups go but I dont see it ending or falling off anytime soon.
The worse to me is the age of idols. So, I just listen to other Korean genre. K-Hip-Hop, K-Ballad, K-R&B, K-Indie are more my jam, because it's primarily music by adults. And, there are less fanwars there too. Kiss of Life are like the only group of the 5th generation that I care about (and maybe tripleS). I still love my groups who debuted early 4th gen and older.
right! like the new jeans and baby monsters etc are just not doing it for me bc the appeal and aesthetic is so overdone and played, not to mention the repetitive fxcking songs
HYBE (BangP.D) literally ruined KPOP.
y’all trying to place the blame of kpops downfall onto one label/man is so funny. if you really think the actions of a label/ceo is what’s ruining kpop, then according your logic kpop was already in the trenches before hybe became a thing since the big3 were all having scandals left and right regarding drugs, illegal prostitution, theft, etc.
Agreed
@@trex7370 bts is getting older number 1 dayz are numbered
6:22 for dance practices I just wanted to highlight that KEY said that the reason dance practices looked like that before was because they were simply for their own purposes and they had no idea they would be shared. He indicated that he felt a lil uncomfortable with it at first because he wasn’t ready for that image of him to be spread.
This video was the one where he was guessing which 5th gen boy groups wardrobe it was (spoiler it was boynextdoors).
I’ve definitely noticed how much the Kpop music video views have dropped in the last few years!
It might also be because Covid lockdowns ended and people aren't home streaming videos obsessively anymore. Instead, they consume on other platforms. Some of those Spotify counts are still pretty high.
"What goes up will come down"
Just look at the Kpop Company Stocks everything is down. YG 26$, JYP 40$
I miss kpop old days
The chart is also unfair. Good music will be good music

Hybe specially ruined everything because they buy ambassador ship to compete with senior idols. They don't understand everything takes times 🤛🤛
Durign that time HYBE didn´t even exist and big hit and bts were more interested in doing music that modeling gigs.
So why hybe again?
@@romacon6295 but yg and sm doesn't buy deals they earn with hardwork only then these consider a big thing for kpop idols but nowadays before debut companies send their idols for fashion event so everything became useless , I blame hybe cause they made it a competition not an achievement others also starting copying them so they started a bad race in which talent doesn't matter
@@S2458hzxcvbiyhhh ...sm got AESPA a sponsorship with givenchy before their debut. Aespa who where unknown at the time, and going back to 2019 exo's Kai became a brand ambassador for Gucci, and actually started the trend of creating their own line of designs with the brands then Through out 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 sm has consistently negotitated almost all its active artist to become ambassadors. Now you have Baby monster only about 4 months into their debut becoming the face of ADDIDAS while being sponsored by Gucci for their bedut photos.
But you say the problem is HYBE, Dude just admit you dont like hybe for doing the same as your faves, its easier.
@@S2458hzxcvbiyhhh Source? And ambassadorship ruined kpop? Lol
@@S2458hzxcvbiyhhh Right.. YG, JYP and SM can use their groups even before debut as ambassadors but when HYBE does it they are forcing their issue because they are turning it into a business (even thought the entire industry is a business)... Make it make sense.
Maybe just admit that you are salty that HYBE became a better player at a game invented by others and call it a day. 😂
Fr 4th gen and 5th gen idols still talk about them and look up too them , and cover there music
The problem is with the fans, and fans only. Companies only provide what fans want. Social networks are a cancer, they ruin everything.
Sounds like Kpop aint fun anymore, but just about branding and a money game.
kpop was just a phase and it doesn't feel the same way as it did before
I think the issue is that there is so much saturation these days of new groups debuting left and right that these "older groups" have to keep up, adding to the pressure and toxicity to the Kpop scene.
Is so true K-pop has changed I hope the company’s wake up
Hybe just buying views and ambassador positions and destroying kpop.
Hybe is the reason for the downfall of kpop.
SM is my last hope
This is just "enshittification" (best known in software development) because greedy suits make it so. Kpop chasing brand deals, cutting quality, and axing groups that don't gross millions of dollars instantly is all because some greedy executives can't settle for a lot of money; they want all of the money.
Seeing "enshittification" in reference to a Kpop video? Take my upvote! I will also add, as others have, that the fans are weird as f*ck. Like, getting into weird Twitter fights with each other, dragging the idols down with them, and making up stupid "scandals." That's not the music industry, that's us, collectively. But yeah, This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things.
Everything went downhill at the start of 4th gen
No shit. If you learn a little about korea --> They love more money and social status than themselves. Its their goal in life. Rich and famous/powerfull. Family or morality is on the bottom of the list

This is why I cried when K-pop started to get popular 😔 I knew that popularity would ruin it.

So basically...kpop has become a "trend" , which comes and goes .
i mean, honestly, new kpop songs and groups right now don't really stand out anymore 😭 it all went downhill, for me, at the end of 3rd gen of kpop. 🤷🏻
Modern K-pop is much better. The vocals and dancing are better, and the music videos are better and more interesting. Stray kids, Ateez, their music is very experimental. In the U.S. Nobody does that kind of music. And they always sing without phonograms or lip sync. By the way, Ateez has a main vocalist Jongho, who is one of the best vocalists in Korea. The old K-pop is monotonous and boring. The old K-pop is monotonous and boring. And there are a lot of cliches, not in modern but old K-pop. If you don't understand this, then you are an idiot. The lyrics are only about love, and the lyrics were written for them by other people. I believe that songs should have meaning. They should help in bad times. For example, Stray kids write songs by themselves. They write songs about believing in yourself, about parents, about not being sad, and not paying attention to the words that make you sad. (G) I-DLE writes songs about prejudice, stereotypes, and people's stupidity. BTS songs make sense too. If you have bad times, you can read the translations of the songs, and you will feel better. Their songs help me in bad times.Old K-pop is just nostalgia and nothing more. Don't dwell on the past. I just don't like people who say it was better in the past. Stop slandering modern groups, and don't be stupid idiots.
"kpop isn’t really about releasing music anymore" never was... most kpop stans dont give a sht about music they just stan for the visuals, fanservice or just to feel part of a community it was ALWAYS like this the fans have always been the same but now there a way more and keep asking for more to one up another fandom and say "my faves are better" but then cry when the idols are exhausted or get injured they are never happy they praise their favorite idols and send death threats to everyone else,
if the song is bad doesnt matter lets mass stream the song anyways cause who gives a sht about music its all about the achievements
I do personally believe that these short songs will not age well because it's very hard for them to have a lasting impression at least for me. In fact after I listen to a shorter kpop song I just completely forget that it ever existed because it doesn't feel complete or worthwhile to keep listening to. But that is just my opinion.
Kpop started falling since it started to westernise every concept. They lost their unique touch and not to mention looks or physical appearance more prominent than singing skills. They are now trying to be viral more than to do something unique which happened in 3rd gen and 2nd gen.
even the old grps like bts and blackpink are losing touch i mean its not the idols fault its the companies fault
Agree these companies don't treat the idols properly and equally and promoting their most famous idol too much in west and these compsnies have too much dependent on them. Ex : Jungkook
Well, BTS built the wall too high for other music artists to reach it as BTS, so now companies want to get same benefits and success that BTS have, but sacrificing the music quality of their idols and the most important thing, the bond with the group fans
True from 4th gen onwards groups are trying hard to become next Bts.
Not for MUSIC ARTISTS, but for social media stars. BTS lost their music quality looooong ago. and tbf they 've never been great ARTISTS. They built their popularity literally on social media platforms, starting from billbord social 50. All of their efforts were focused on that.
@@Alexandra_Indina Lmao be fr. They were always great artists and had given the kpop industry major hits and a name in the west. Just because you don't like their music doesn't mean the millions of people around the world won't like it. Pls do some research before shaming any group

Kpop Idols still compete in music and talent, they just do it in music shows now. Why people are just celebrating ambassadorships instead on music videos, the songs, dances, and achievements. I'll put less focus on brand ambassadorships. I pray to god that Look doesn't end.
Simply put the music quality has declined, the idol debut selection is reaching new lows every year, they genuinely start debuting actual children, and don't provide them the training they need
this is why i don't listen new groups since a few years ago. they use Kpop for other reasons than making music.
