Tyler Allgeier (25) was a walk on, earned a spot on defense, moved to running back, and will end up getting drafted to the NFL. Such a great person, and athlete.
I was at this game sitting in the end zone where the returner was headed. Critical part in the game and Allgeier (will be a drafted RB this year) made one of the most incredible effort plays I’ve ever seen. Also swim cap dude is actually a stud on BYU B-Ball team.
I had not seen this! That's fucking amazing! He grabs his shoulder just to get a gauge on positioning and continues to accelerate passed him for that maneuver. Awesome play. Thanks.
“accelerate PAST” not passed. But I think accelerate OVER him would be more accurate in this case, haha. The left shoulder grab didn’t just turn the guy with the ball. The RB used it to launch himself over the other guy. That’s some frikkin’ exceptional athleticism combined with smarts.
@@MarcosElMalo2 Right?! Use the legs to get within reach, then reroute all power to those fresh guns, and use the sideways pullup on his shoulder to get even closer before dropping the hammer. Impressive on so many levels.
Actually he grabbed the left shoulder to propel himself forward while also slowing him down. The way he punched it is a little too much but w/e ahah, worked.
I think GMs will be more concerned with the ability to pass block that comes up 35 times each game rather than his ability to chase down and superman punch an opponent on a turnover, which I'm assuming happens less than 35 times a game.
Background. Tyler Allgeier was a walk-on. Played LB just to get on field & was awesome 1st yr. Switched to RB 2nd yr where he was 2nd best RB in nation. This season, he has over 1600 yrds & 23 TD's (most in nation) for BYU single season rushing record held by a Doak Walker winner (Luke Staley). Allgeier doesn't even make the DW finalist list. That's what we call disrespect for an incredible player.
BYU has hardly ever been given a fair shake. I remember when I was in high school and BYU defeated the Oregon Ducks in the Las Vegas Bowl (BCS era, 2006). Despite crushing the Ducks (final score 38-6), the papers still read "Oregon loses" rather than praising BYU for the win in the headline.
It's impressive. Theoretically, if they follow the rules as written, this also reset the downs rather than making it an insane loss on the play next down.
"If that guy isn't playing dress-up, then what's he all about?" He's BYU. He got up in the morning, asked "what would Jesus wear to score chicks?" and planned accordingly.
That might just be better than when GT's QB took back his own fumble vs FSU in the 2009 lightning delay game. If you've never done a breakdown of that game, it was insane. 1.5 hr lightning delay, Bobby Bowden stumbling through the halftime interview, Demaryius Thomas with a big stiff arm, and Nesbitt taking the fumble back. Took at least a year off my life.
I'm so glad you finally broke this down! I was at that game and that whole play was such a rollercoaster of emotion. Always enjoy these videos! Sending love from Utah.
I played RB/FB from Pee Wee to College and even in Pee Wee they teach you how to run with the ball right. Just cause it's tucked like that doesn't make it safe. Good on the RB for countering that and if you look at the inches the defensive player was from the sideline is insane. Great breakdown.
I was at this game. What a swing of emotions seeing the terrible interception, and then all of the sudden Allgeier goes Beast Mode and Hulk smashes it out. Saved the game.
The most underappreciated moment of this whole sequence is the line judge signaling possession at the end of the play. His body language the way he's rocking back and forth on his feet is low key screaming, "WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED!!!"
That's actually not a bad effort on the block by the running back. It looked like a blitz or a hot read, so the running back chopping down the rusher to buy the QB an extra split second should help to dump off the pass or throw it away. The QB probably took a wrong read and ran towards the rusher as opposed to away or back to buy extra time to throw downfield.
Yeah it looks like the QB needs to be reading the corner covering the slot receiver. When the corner let the receiver free and went to engage the motion man, QB needs to let it ride.
That wasn't the RB's fault on the block. An RB usually can't block a DE for very long, and he did a good job of getting in the way and trying to take out his legs. Great play all around by the RB.
This is a pretty common technique where you rip away at one shoulder and punch out…that said, everything else about this is what makes it crazy…how he came over the top, how it was right along the sideline, how it’s right after a turn over…absolutely cool stuff
I remember practicing this exact move in high school. The Old secure the tackle with one arm punch the ball with the other maneuver. Textbook, but beautifully executed!!
That was actually a solid block by the rb, slowing down a free rusher. That play was on the quarterback. He should’ve gotten the ball out sooner or rolled out to the other side of the field
The timing of the runners arm going forward and having the ball out there to be punched had to be perfect or he would have punched air. Everything just worked out. Well for BYU anyway
@@Hamnog84 I think that depends on the team. My coach ALWAYS had us do so every practice. How else is the defense supposed to learn what to do to the offense? He used to say " these opportunities are going to come to you during the game. The real question is will you execute on the opportunity given to you to help your team?"
I actually don't think it's a bad block on the beginning either. He slows down his guy enough and only lets him get by after the QB rolls left where he can't get leverage.
Dude... he didnt make mistake... RB cant block Edge unless the RB name is Marshawn Lynch... He try to buy his QB some time by throwing his body... The one make mistake was the QB...
