Don’t Knock Twice is a highly-immersive first-person horror game with VR support on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
To save her estranged daughter, a guilt-ridden mother must uncover the frightening truth behind the urban tale of a vengeful, demonic witch. Explore a grand manor house environment and interact with almost every object you see. To find and save your daughter, you will explore all depths of the manor, searching for hidden clues and wield items to fight or escape the terror that surrounds you. Developed alongside the 2017 horror film, Don’t Knock Twice, starring Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica).

yeah as soon as I saw the methadone, I was like yeah, she was an addict... I went to a methadone clinic for many, many years... I am proud to say that I have been clean from everything (but cigs and soda lol) for around 4 or so years!

Glad to see you checked this out. I did this one in VR and that was a horrifying experience, especially in the section around the kitchen.
You would not believe how bad the axe dropping is in VR; the game detects your grip based on your hardest grab, so if you relax your grip but still are "holding" the item, you're almost guaranteed to drop it. I spent more time grabbing the axe than using a bloody thing.
It's not on Resident Evil 7 or Home Sweet Home's level in VR but still pretty damn good. Would recommend a vr playthrough for yourself Chris

In that case does the game has multiple endings?
So who was the servant that tricked us to kill our husband so that they would be released and we would become the new servant? In the movie it was Jessica's friend that was the servant and she tricked Jessica into killing her own husband. But in the game the friend doesn't exist.
Why can't more horror games have a strong Axe that could be used more than once and have a better grip on not dropping it a lot of times lol. Also, me who'll drop it a thousand times.
Who raised a nine year old to know how to summon spirits? I don't care what mistakes were made in the past, that kid is getting a return.

I agree 100% with your review, Chris--this is mediocre--but your commentary made it a worthwhile watch anyway.. I do think it would be _much_ scarier in VR.
A lot of very familiar tropes done quite well. The bad ending was really phoned in, but was also very abrupt and frustrating : who's the dead person on the floor, the husband I suppose? Is Chloe dead and gone? Not a bad game, but a bit of a mixed bag.
This seems like a fun game I`d play it myself if I knew about it before but oh well.On a side note you can see how game gets more disturbing with time.For example the portrait around the house grow more messed up like the portrait above the fireplace in the room where the game starts.I like those little hidden details it makes the game a bit more fun.

On one side it's good to see Baba Yaga as a game character. But on the other side she is portrayed as some simple demon and doesn't look at all like Baba Yaga I've read in the childhood, which is frustrating. She is much more complex and interesting :( She can help you or can be the enemy, and she is the wise and powerful entity. Also her character design kinda doesn't feel right.
The game itself was meh. Also I feel like you've played it before... Didn't you?..
She is presented better in Castlevania Lords of Shadow IMO

Was impressed with the recall of Black Phillip. Not the best known myth.
This game was alright but it would have been so much better if you were under constant threat and maybe had to stealth around the house a bit looking for the items needed. Just my opinion. Thank you for playing! 😁

The Wales Interactive seems to be doing nice games, they did that one with Siren - Maid of Sker. They are giving nice spins to old tales and I love it.
This one though had a real potential for psychological horror of someone fighting/recovering from their past mistakes and uniting with their children. I'm kind of sad they didn't go that route heavily, thus I find the ending unsatisfying to be honest.

That jumps are in the wall had me 😱 also, am I losing my mind or did the paintings on the wall become more ominous as the game went on?
That should be jump scare, but jumps are in the walls sounds better.
Edit, I do actually like some of the scares I shouldn't have judged before finishing it!
That's the thing I have about games like this where the environment doesn't match what's going on. It doesn't fit with an old mansion type house with lit candles. Not feeling it. And the scares are meh I am interested in the story somewhat because I never see methadone mentioned! But I enjoy the commentary as always cj!
This game is based on the movie of the same name and in the movie the mansion looked just like the one in the game.
Not bad, genuinely made me jump. I think this is the first game where you didn't look inside the toilet though

The baba yaga tricked the player into killing chloe. One of the notes said that in order to save someone from baba yaga's servitude was to either sacrifice someone the player loved or commit something truly evil. The baba yaga knew the player would try to save chloe (being a mother 'n all) set up the latter. But in doing so, the player ended up falling right into the baba yaga's trap of eternal servitude by killing chloe.
That was the husband dead on the ground. If you look closely you can see they're wearing men's clothing.
Wow, this was really amazing, I don't remember seeing a horror game where almost every jumpscare work , really enjoyed the video Chris

I think I watched John Wolfe play this a few years back. Watching this again, it doesn't feel like it holds up quite as good.
Nice game. The idea is interesting, the location is not just another asset, and there is some actual gameplay. I like it.
At least i now know what the baba yaga is. heard it mentioned a few times. suspenseful ending leading to a final blow and still get a text, "you're mine". Idk what it is you've accomplish tbo

I though - ugh, another parent/child issue game (which is itself a horror), but man, this was SO well done!

If I was a game developer, I would definitely specialize in the horror genre. I have a few ideas I would like to incorporate into games, or at least see somebody do so. However, I would also penalize players for displaying such ill manners, such as turning on faucets, and then leaving them on, continuing on with their gameplay without shutting the faucets back off. Doors, as well, except I would penalize for every door, only the major ones, such as the doorway that leads from the interior of a building to the exterior, or outdoors. If you enter a house, or exit a building, you simply do not leave the door wide open, you shut it like any dignified person who was raised properly. You grab something off the shelf, and decide you don't want to carry it, and rather than placing the item back from whence you grabbed it, you merely drop it onto the floor: PENALTY!!!
Like a typical survival horror game, but the location or some entity is fastidious in attention to player's manners, cool. Kinda makes me think of some Japanese haunted scenario, where it doesn't have to be necessarily horrifying as long as you behave. Some leeway would have to be given though - some people don't always get to grip with the controls or mis-click and accidentally drop something.

Only 3 minutes into this video, I realised the plot of this game sounded a lot like a - not very good either - movie I saw some times ago. I searched and... yep. The movie is also called "Don't knock twice". Was released around 2016. The game's plot is exactly the same, even characters names are identical. Don't know what to think of it.

I think in VR it should be a completely different experience. It's not a bad game, it's average. I liked the technological touch of Baba Yaga.

The graffects, scares and puzzles are good. But, the background on the relationship between mother and child needs to be brushed up with more details, and the story line definitely needs expanding on. The game didn't quite flow enough for me. The storyline and details of the game compared to the movie it's bases on, (by the same name), I give the game a 4 out of 10 for work effort, and that's me being nice. The movie gets a 10 out of 10. I recommend watching the movie.
I don't know just my pov was that since the folklore mentioned that baba yaga grants a wish on giving sacrifice. Chloe tricked her mother and sacrificed her maybe 😅😅 just what came into my stupid mind...

I would have rather have multiple endings to this game. It is a shame she killed her daughter instead of the witch. It was the witch sending all the text to make her do her bidding. I just wish that she could have killed the witch and saved her daughter.

I wish this had been worked on a bit more....if I ever get better at making games , I will try myself or make my own game but with possibility for Baba Yaga not to be treated as an enemy but rather a possible ally and probably only a possible enemy if you have been rude and disrespectful to her...

It was at least nominally more enjoyable than the tedious movie it was based on. Even if both just get the mythology completely wrong in that cash-in American cinema sort of way.
The devs aren't American and the movie is Welsh made, too. And there are a lot of great American films and games so sthu.

Not bad. I do like a well designed spooky house. What I don’t really like is a funnelled experience where you’re limited to doors unlocking for no other reason than to make progress. It’s lazy game creation.
