I really enjoyed this video, Tiffany. You're right... Comparison IS the thief of joy. Seeing what others make is super enjoyable... and I am sometimes inspired by them... but I don't want to get caught up in doing things simply because others are doing them. Being in FL, and retired, my clothing needs are pretty simple. It would be so sad if we all dressed the same! I, too... want to just enjoy sewing. I've never created a Make 9 list - but I might. Sewing down some stash and trying out (many) more of my patterns are already in my list of things I'd like to accomplish.
Don't do that comparison... it is a Thief of Joy. I did the same thing😢. I was comparing myself to other channels and getting depressed over it. I have no one in my immediate community to talk about sewing in any capacity. So I understand how you feel about not having someone to talk about garment sewing. I have goals for myself 1. to do a better job documenting my completed projects 2. I’m going to Japan in June so I can only shop my stash for my projects until then. So true about comparing - I love watching sewing vlogs but sometimes feel like I get nothing done compared to so many people - have to remind myself that we're all different and have different circumstances, abilities, etc. I need to keep watching the vlogs, though, for companionship (like Zelda below, I don't know anyone else who sews to hang out with) and the vlogs are a wonderful, kind, supportive, inspiring community. I feel as though you and the other sewing You-Tubers are virtual friends and I so appreciate that friendship! Guess what - I just purchased the green cable knit you are wearing at Joann yesterday! Love your top and the one for your daughter is so cute! I could set goals...but don't want to feel bad if I don't achieve them 😁!
I learned so much on pro-finishing my garments just by looking over store bought garments and even taking apart things that fit so nicely. As a Mennonite, I took apart bought men's shirts and jeans to create nice handmade garments. Invisible zippers are amazing. I suggest buying one and practicing on scrap fabric. Remember, we all started somewhere. Your channel is amazing and I am proud to know you and call you my friend! ❤

I refer to you as “one of my you tube sewing friends” great job on your make 9 last year and it looks like a great set of make 9 goals for this year. I just set my make 9 for 2024. My first time. Last year was really my first year of diving I to garments (quilter). I made 25 garments last year, including wearable muslins. Your organization tips have been great! Have a wonderful week!
Hi Tiffany, I love the goals you have set for your channel for 2024. It is a delight to watch your sewing journey - your channel is special just as it is. 😊 The goal I have set for 2024 is to sew some quality neutral and non patterned timeless garments for myself. I sew clothing in the autumn tonings and such an addition would help to make my wardrobe more cohesive.
Keeping your long goals visible is a good thing... I only set short goals, and often lose the list 😆 I've learned I can't look forward at too many things, as by the halfway point I'm wanting to do other things. Last week, I did make a bullet list of two 'finish ups' and two new pieces for the month of January (hopefully that's not too lofty); then three general things I want to accomplish for the month. We'll see how that goes. 😘 You'll do fine with zippers. My first zipper was in 8th grade, a lot of us chose zippers and didn't think twice. I'm sure they weren't neat, but it wasn't hard and they worked haha. The instructions in the zipper packaging (and invisibles) are really very good, and commercial patterns usually follow that pretty closely. I'm excited to see your progress this year! 😘

Tiffany, thank you for the card! I received it this week. I don't have any garment sewing friends in real life either. I know a couple of people who quilt so I do have them but quilting just isn't my jam. Plus, let's face it - I live in Florida. How much quilted stuff do I need?!! I think you did a great job on your Make Nine. Your quilt isn't finished but quilting takes a long time! And can we ever really be done learning about our machines? I think there will always be something new to learn if we plan use all the features on our machines. Good luck with this year's Make Nine. I don't do a Make Nine but I do have goals. This will be my year of pants. I really want to make pants that fit so I can sew a complete wardrobe and sewing my fabric stash.

Hi Tiffany,your love of sewing really goes thru your vlogs,it’s very inspiring to watch your journey ❤ I’ve never set up make nine just because I’m very emotional sewist, I patch cut several garments different styles one woven dress one jersey dress couple of tops,and then I’m sewing them up as I feeling,and occasionally I do something very different so I don’t have any plans,these last 6 months I haven’t bought any fabrics (😱)just because i really needed to sew down my stash , I didn’t have any space to store more fabric,I’ve been very good and my stash is more manageable stage today . My goal this year is to not buy any clothing, I have to make whatever I'm looking for, preferably out of my stash or repurposed fabric. I allow myself to buy notions or small pieces of fabric/ribbon necessary to finishing a project. So far so good! I'm on my third pair of pants using tablecloths, thrifted garments repurposed and curtains
Enjoyed your make 9, I had make undies on my list last year. Made them for my 2 grandkids and not myself. Also had to make winter coats for the kids and did those. Just got home from vacation so haven't made any plans for 2024 but maybe I will. Youe channel is great just the way you are, breath of fresh air.

Hello dear Tiffany! Don’t change your focus! It’s been great! You are a sewing friend to me even tho I do have some garment sewing friends close by. I sooo look forward to your blogs every wk! Seeing Addy June too is a real delight! She’s so cute! In your last vlog her learning to twist and model was adorable. I so miss sewing for my girls. I sewed a cute Christmas apron for myself in Fla. it wasn’t sewn the best but passed! lol. I also made some Christmas pj pants for the four of us in Florida. Knit sewing,,, and this sure wasn’t my best. But the fabric wasn’t either. lol. I’m really thinking about trying to buy some wool, boucle from Stylemaker fabrics. Their quality is great! Their store is my go to for online fabric ordering. Have you ever chckd them out? Never once received sub par quality fabric. We got home from Florida and had to put in a new water heater. No fun plus expensive and my hubs n s I l did the install last eve and hubs finished up this am. We are d I yers. After the water softener finishes I can start a lot of laundry and get showered. Yesterday am is when we discovered how much rust and dark water we had. I was cleaning my master bath. So we are back in business, hopefully. Take care. Had semi sad weather here this am. I have only 2 goals for 2024. I’m going to finish my son’s quilt that I’ve been working on for over 20 years. I finished my first daughter’s quilt and then after I finish this one I have 2 more to do. Next I want to find a couple of patterns that actually fit me. I’ve been so discouraged in my recent makes! I’m going to donate those and keep trying. I want a shirt pattern for sure.
Love your plans and I'm so glad you aren't too hard on yourself for not finishing 2023 but you did way over half and my goodness 31 items for Addie June ❤!! Goals are great and they work for a lot of people but not everyone. I don't like the pressure as you know and like to be spontaneous with my hobby. Style arc patterns you should certainly try, you are more than capable of sewing without instructions let alone scant ones. Like you, I just wanted Sewing friends as I had no one that would listen to me going on about fabric and patterns so I started a channel. We live in a far better world now don't we 🥰❤️😘x

Hi Tiffany. The first year I did my Make 9 I did really well. The next year not so well. And 2023 was a real fail. Part of the problem was the chart was not visible and I would just merrily make whatever it is, that my brain decided it wanted to make next. This year, I think it’s just gonna be some concepts instead of actually patterns and things. Hope you have a happy 2024.❤🧵

I have never heard of the 9 goals idea but after watching your video I am going to come up with my own. As its a great idea, I have subscribed to your channel because of your friendly style and because you are human getting stuff done but not quite all of it. Shory of my life and I am a lot older than you, as for your channel you have 1.88k subscribers who clipped on you because they like what you do. If its not broken do not fix it. Hello dear Tiffany! Don’t change your focus! It’s been great! You are a sewing friend to me even tho I do have some garment sewing friends close by. I sooo look forward to your blogs every wk! Seeing Addy June too is a real delight! She’s so cute! In your last vlog her learning to twist and model was adorable. I so miss sewing for my girls. I sewed a cute Christmas apron for myself in Fla. it wasn’t sewn the best but passed! lol. I also made some Christmas pj pants for the four of us in Florida. Knit sewing,,, and this sure wasn’t my best. But the fabric wasn’t either. lol. I’m really thinking about trying to buy some wool, boucle from Stylemaker fabrics. Their quality is great! Their store is my go to for online fabric ordering. Have you ever chckd them out? Never once received sub par quality fabric. We got home from Florida and had to put in a new water heater. No fun plus expensive and my hubs n s I l did the install last eve and hubs finished up this am. We are d I yers. After the water softener finishes I can start a lot of laundry and get showered. Yesterday am is when we discovered how much rust and dark water we had. I was cleaning my master bath. So we are back in business, hopefully. Take care. Had semi sad weather here this am. I have only 2 goals for 2024. I’m going to finish my son’s quilt that I’ve been working on for over 20 years. I finished my first daughter’s quilt and then after I finish this one I have 2 more to do. Next I want to find a couple of patterns that actually fit me. I’ve been so discouraged in my recent makes! I’m going to donate those and keep trying. I want a shirt pattern for sure.
Love your plans and I'm so glad you aren't too hard on yourself for not finishing 2023 but you did way over half and my goodness 31 items for Addie June ❤!! Goals are great and they work for a lot of people but not everyone. I don't like the pressure as you know and like to be spontaneous with my hobby. Style arc patterns you should certainly try, you are more than capable of sewing without instructions let alone scant ones. Like you, I just wanted Sewing friends as I had no one that would listen to me going on about fabric and patterns so I started a channel. We live in a far better world now don't we 🥰❤️😘x

Many of the Style Arc patterns have sew along videos that you can access when you buy the PDF. Check and see if one of yours does if the written instructions are too sparse.

Hi Tiffany. The first year I did my Make 9 I did really well. The next year not so well. And 2023 was a real fail. Part of the problem was the chart was not visible and I would just merrily make whatever it is, that my brain decided it wanted to make next. This year, I think it’s just gonna be some concepts instead of actually patterns and things. Hope you have a happy 2024.❤🧵
