Such a cute little set! I know how you feel about the ready to wear shorts. I don’t understand why they make the little girl shorts soo dang short! We’ve taken to doing biker shorts under tunics too. That way my daughter’s little thighs don’t get stuck on the slide going down!

I am participating in Sew Fruity. I had a little bit of cotton fabric with cherries on it. I made a dress for Dress a Girl Around the World. The outfit you made is darling.

That happy fruit fabric is just adorable - wondering if there is an age limit on wearing smiling fruit 😄?!? The mom in me also thought the dark background is good for hiding stains, too!

Addy's outfit is adorable. I have a few fruity outfits, but I made them last year.😅😅😅 I know I have seen the strawberry rib knit at Hobby Lobby.

When my granddaughter was three, I helped her make a pillow. And she still talked about it to this day. It's such a great memory to have.

So glad to have you back! I am always amazed how you balance work, a TH-cam channel and being a mom who gets in lots of family time. My little family is preparing to sell our house and move to be closer to my family. So I sadly packed all of my sewing supplies 😢 but I’ve been doing more hand sewing. I’m making some baby felt mobiles and little felt toys.

Hi Tiffany, I've never had any problems putting in zippers, so I don't feel like I've got much to add..... if all else fails, the instructions in the zipper package are always good 😉 And practice. My first zipper was done making a skirt in -mid1970's Jr High, and I believe we just followed the instructions in the pattern. [I'm a pathological instruction follower 😆 ] Since I found the ideal invisible zipper foot for my machine, they are now easier than the regular ones to get to look nice. At this very moment sewing the last few steps of a Named Reeta Shirtdress. 😁 Prepping the pattern for some Upland Trousers.

Hi, Tiffany! Addy is going to be quite the designer and seamstress!! 😊 The best zipper technique to start with is down the center back of a dress or top. It is straight and flat (unlike a side or fly zipper) and will give you the feel of inserting a zipper before you tackle the more challenging zipper techniques. Basting is a good idea, too. Good luck! ❤

Make a small makeup bag with a zipper. Then make something like a pillow with a zipper. If you have already done one in a dress for Addie you should be okay. Just wait before putting one in the front of pants with a fly....even though it's not that hard I just wouldn't start with that.

Also I’m afraid of zippers. I need to get it under my skill set. I’ve been running away from any project that needs a zipper. Looking forward to the comments. Maybe you can do a live and we can all practice together.

I to have not been sewing for the last few weeks. I was on vacation also. I managed to increase my cotton stash while away on my Japan trip. I’m going to make that staycation dress as my next project to cut out. I have just the right fabric to use. I love that Addy wants to sew. Can you imagine how much she can learn from you over the years by starting so early. She’ll pick up a lot from being around you.

Addie June's reaction to her sewing machine was perfect, and the pillow and blanket are great now and will be a treasure to keep as she gets older. Yes, I have a hard time getting rid of things I've made even if I don't use them - for one thing, I've heard that some charity thrift stores won't sell things that don't have a commercial label with a size in them, although I haven't checked that out - I don't want all my work to end up in a landfill, and I'm pretty sure I've seen some handmade items at the Salvation Army. Some fabrics are just a disappointment, though, that would have to make their way to the right person or perhaps be used for something else.

It’s interesting to me that I have both fabrics of your least favorite Me-Mades. The pinkish one from Fabric Mart is crazy wrinkly! The second I loved from Hobby Lobby but can’t deal with the static electricity it creates from being 100% poly. It’s in the give away pile. The first I have resigned myself to ironing it to wear for short times. They both are beautiful to look at though.

To practice putting in zippers I would work on some small bags with zippers. You can use scraps and zippers are ridiculously reasonable at Hobby Lobby.

I haven’t been dressmaking again for very long, so couldn’t do hand- made May. But watching others made me realise that I have a random selection of fabrics bought because they attracted me. But I should be thinking more of complete outfits and garment which work with each other. I started sewing 🧵 in my teens and my memory is that everything had zips in and they couldn’t be avoided. More recently I’ve been making pouches and bags which usually have zips. Don’t worry about doing them and just get on with them. With your standard of sewing they should be no problem. Best of luck. So thank you for sharing that. 😊 In respect to your me made May journey - yes we all have some sewing projects that don’t turn out due to choice of fabric etc. I purchased some expensive mustard coloured linen and spent many hours sewing a button up shirt - the material crushed so badly and it just looked like a rag after wearing it for a short time. I think I have only worn it once and it is just hanging there, gloomily, in my cupboard. Fortunately we have enough wins that balance out these disappointing sews. Love getting your baby involved with her ideas. I cut up my older/unloved garments. Can always reuse as pocket linings, patches or pieced together tops.

How exciting that Addy wants to sew and that she actually placed the trim on the pillow. She will always remember the memories you two are creating with this craft.

I think a pencil or A-line skirt made of sturdy woven material would be a good project for learning to do zippers. Today we have wonderful tutorials to learn new techniques. Back in the day I learned from the zipper packaging and, or course, a little help from Mom.

I don’t have a specific pattern in mind, but I’d recommend one that’s for really stable woven fabric to start. Maybe choose a skirt with a back or side zip because those are super straightforward. I don’t think a fly is *that* difficult but I did one as my second zip ever and there’s a little bit of puckering that still drives me bonkers. Don’t let invisible zippers scare you either. Just take your time and I do recommend basting it in well. I think I used a video from Tomkat stitchery the first few times I did zips. I’m looking forward to your collab! My toddler loves to sew with me too, and she’s not half bad at guiding the fabric! The buttons are so tempting for her though 😂

Cute pillow and blanket. Zippers are very easy if you use wondertape. That being said I do not have a whole lot of patterns that use zippers anymore. Mostly bags but those are super simple just using clips. We are camping this weekend . I like to hit up local quilt stores

Did you donate a dress in 2023 that had a cris cross back opening? If so, what pattern did you use? This will be my first year participating, but I have already made 26 dresses (22 are reversible) and all for the older kids.

Beautiful fabrics. Great to splurge sometimes but once you have sewn with the high quality fabrics it is so hard to go back to the more reasonably priced ones. The store looks amazing- how I yearn to return to Florida- sadly, way too expensive for me these days from the UK but I have such wonderful memories of all the special place there. 😊 Happy Sewing.
