I think the whole the braking of dashes reflection is signifying how twilight finnaly sees what he has done to this man and that he is no longer a weak and innocent person but a dangerous force
Yep I have a feeling that the kind and innocent image of Dantes versus the callous and worldly count, That old vision he had in his head that he used to mock Dantes in memory... Yep this is freaking awesome
As long as the fandom keeps giving, this show will never be forgotten. That's why I always visit fimfiction to see if there is another story that will blow my mind.
Need...finished...VERSION. Also, the symbolism behind the two sides of Dontes, one angry and vengeful and the other desperate and mournful, is PERFECT. I love it.
I love the fact that the second voice who's grieving is Rainbow Dash in the inside, his pain is so heatfelt! I also love that fact that you guys had followed the main story of how the Count himself had killed off his very best friend just for Shycedes ; v ;
@Seafoam Shimmer ya I watched the movie but it wasn't very accurate. I mean the acting was great and all but how they changed the marvelous plot of the novel into THAT, didn't impress me. Movies forget to mention one of the most important characters of the book- Haydee tebelin. The girl who was sold into slavery by Fernand. She played as Edmonds slave till the end when Edmond married her. I *personally* prefer the book but if u like the movie then I totally like ur opinion
@Seafoam Shimmer Enjoy! It's a great read. I'm going to reread it again sometime soon. First had it in 2018, lost it, paid for a new one to the library I lost it from, then, I got gifted a new one for Christmas, read through and finished it. Gonna reread if I can find the time with how busy I've been with scouting lately.
This is typically the kind of ending where the character fulfilled his ambition, but you just feel... Strangely empty. The epicness of the fight doesn't make it rewarding, cause he doesn't won anything in the end. And that's great. Can I rewatch it? I'll rewatch it. I love it.
I think this should be 5.5. Dantes did go on to exact his revenge in killing and placing his old friends to financial and political ruin. Iirc, he planned to kill mercedes and her son albert next but decided against it discovering that he still has feelings for her. So he allowed them to live and he turned a new leaf letting go of all his hate and looking towards the future, hence the upbeat albeit dramatic redemption song of "the man I used to be".
I keep coming back to this - theorizing that twilight’s end verse with ‘why does my heart cry’ fits so well w the fact that it might be a small part of himself feeling guilty about all he did to rainbow and he’s confused as to why he still felt a lil bit bad
On top of me obsessively rewatching again since October, where he's singing "feelings I can't FIGHT" near the end to Edmund, trying to poorly justify to himself and to him of his absolute treachery. I absolutely adore these animatics so much 🥰
You did a good job establishing Dantes' split personality. One side is angry and vengeful. The other is mournful and innocent. The price of both caused, well, THAT!
I just noticed something here: 4:47 Mondego’s face seems to change on each angle, going from enraged denial, to realization, to just fear. It speaks to the character’s mental process so clearly and I love it!!!
While this video is dripping in symbolism alone, I love comparing 6/6 and 6.5/6. In 6/6, Dantes is free of his worries and guilt and it ends with him flying towards the stars - towards the heavens and free. In 6.5/6, the Count is engulfed with desire for revenge and dark intent. He is flying downwards as if towards Hell and to a sinful act of destroying and ultimately ending Mondego out of wrath and self pride. Amazing work, ladies!!! I’ve been invested in your series for 5 years!
It's called justice. Sometimes you need to step down to dark path in order to see fairness in this world. Doesn't mean it's always morally right, but understandable from victim of a tragedy point of view.
@@thecommentator9181 Having read the book myself, that's not quite it. In the book, the Count does indeed kill Mondego, and only Mercedes begging him not to saves her son, Albert, from being murdered by him as well. Granted, the man has had a very long, arduous journey to get to that point, and it had done nothing for his mental state, and it certainly contributes to the already festering self-hatred and the rage towards Mondego, who had gone as far as to have him falsely jailed and lie to Mercedes about the count being dead. After he kills Mondego, there is a chapter or two after it where he wraps everything up and vanishes off the grid again, presumably released from his pain to an extent, which is where 6/6 The Man I Used To Be comes in.
@@raisingcain1053 this is what the desc says "This video is an alternate ending to the "Count of Monte Cristo" series. In it, the Count and Monsparkle have their final confrontation..." the true ending is up to the viewer i believe
Can we just appreciate just how amazing the emotions are in these animatics? You can tell exactly how these characters feel with every movement and expression they make.
fantastic, but...Oooh wait! Even better! Mon Dego: ...E-Edmond?!? Monte Cristo: YEES! EDMOND DANTES!!! gives the whole embracing vengeance as the man he was, and ultimately is, way more weight, ya know?
VYxFrost Here, a slightly expanded version. The Count: “Say my name Fernand! *Say it!”* Mondego, with a look of horror: “Edmond...!” Dantes, drawing his sword and throwing the sheathe aside: *”YES, EDMOND DANTES!”*
That reminds me of Sweeney Todd (the Tim Burton vers.) where Judge Turpin says “Benjamin Barker..” in shock after sending him away and putting him in jail for YEARS and for Sweeney to yell his old name so aggressively and immediately stabbing the Judge in the neck. That’s the vibe I got sorry-
I love the parallels between the younger him and the older him as he internally struggles with how to solve this. His bitter self wants to be furious and fight and kill for what he wants. While the younger him is pained by the older hind decisions as although he is more emotional and in pain he wishes only happiness for his love as he has to sit and watch himself brutally hurt her as he had been hurt. That’s just what I got from it anyways.
I really loved it but my favorite part was when twilight understood that he destroyed a good man and an amazing friend you can see it in his eyes.Anyway keep up the good job🤗
You can’t have a soul or compassion when it comes to getting your revenge against those who stole everything from you if you do you may stop and your feel empty inside for the rest of your life
@@flyingturret208thecannon5 it could actually be "The Tango of Roxanne" 'cause it's the kind of dance that is important here... or at least that's what i think
When he went in a kiss to mock Twi at 0:45 she pushed into the kiss at the end of it, even though she was frightened. Then for him to pull away and turn, just for her to reach out to him, to have him back. She was longing for that moment, the moment she could kiss the stallion she truly loved all along again and wanted to stay in the moment of the kiss with him. It’s so heartbreaking when he disregards it and focus's on his revenge. This moment spoke a million words in only a few seconds. UGH I LOVE THIS SERIES💜💜💕💕💕
@@StarSatin Akshually... no. One shot himself, one got so messed up he went insane, and the third was forced to run, and then captured by bandits, and forced to give up all the money he still had on himself. There was also a fourth one who played a minor role - he was given another chance in life, which the Count knew he would waste through stupid greed.
3:46 "No doubt the years have changed me, sir... though I suppose the face of a sailor - the face of a prisoner in the dark - is not particularly memorable." "... Edmond Dashie!" "EDMOND DASHIE!"
Holy shit I love the way you incorporated the song into this. Honestly at first I was skeptical because I wasn't sure how you were going to effectively put this particular song together(namely with who would be singing what) but honestly you blew me out of the water with this. There is just far too much that I love about this that I could dissect every single frame. It's honestly ingenious how you composed this. So instead I'll focus on one of my favorite bits. That murderous intent RADIATED out of the screen at 3:39. Everything that followed after--namely Twilight's hesitation upon seeing Rainbow after realizing their own treachery was portrayed so well that honestly despite everything you felt bad for them--especially as Rainbow's own past self was pleading for the rage to end. It's honestly just so powerful it hits all of the emotional beats perfectly. I wish I had more time to write out all that I could about it but I do not. So I will leave it at this: I can't wait to see the finished product should there ever be one. Even as it is now this animatic is jaw-dropping. PLEASE do not stop drawing. The world would be lesser without it.
You said nearly the things that were on my mind! ^^ (i wasn't too sceptical going into the song. Just wanted to see how it would be delivered. (And wanted to see their great art & animation~)
It's the finished product "for now". We don't know when or even if we'll have the time to finish this thing off completely. Maybe we will, maybe we won't, maybe we'll only complete like a 10 second scene from it to test out what a finished product would look like. Either way its all up in the air. We just want to jump to other projects right now.
Okay. I have a few things to say about this. I have been following y'all for literally years. Since the very beginning really. And I am glad to be here, on this journey with y'all. I'm usually more of a Transformers guy, so this made me think of Skyfire/Starscream, which I think is cool. Everyone is talking about the 3:38 mark. And that is such an emotionally powerful conclusion, but people don't realize they would care as much if they weren't already hooked. 1:22 is probably my favorite part. He is so angry, but there is just such a venerability in his facial expressions, and in his eyes. He's angry, yes. But he's hurt. He wants this to not be happening. But he can't stop himself. The nostril flare and the frown aren't signs of anger, but derision, and combined with the open eyes and perky ears it conveys an open venerability, but the small pupils override that with mistrust. It is absolutely perfect, and it goes by in a second. It's not the same expression as 1:29 because that is pure anger. That passing doubt has closed itself off. And that feeds perfectly into the 2:14 segment. Mercedes is forgotten, she's been written off. He's not even looking at her any more. That love and venerability is closed off to him, even as his heart cries out for what he truly wants, unable to affect change, trapped like a ghost in the past. That reflection we see in 3:08. He sings out the words Mercedes cries. She echo's his heart. "Please believe me when I say I love you." And for just a moment, just a glimmer, that doubt is back. That ability to forgive, to put the past behind him. To be The Man He Used To Be. It can be there. It's his one last chance at redemption. But then he loses it. He has to fight. He has to bring Hell to their Doorstep. He now has to kill. Not just the last of his enemies, but he has to kill the man he used to be. His path is set and no one can change it. That's the power of 3:38. That's the tragedy. The Count doesn't just kill Mondego, he kills Dantes. Once and for all. He shatters that illusion. There's no going back. The glee he feels at 4:12, it's almost like he is saying "I'm sorry, little one. This is the way it has to be." And Mondego stares at him, struggling. He is scared for his life, but he also knows in his heart of hearts that he deserves this. And then 4:37, Mercedes turns away. She runs. That that is the tragedy. Dantes is a ghost standing beside her. He is in the past. He cannot change what is happening, he cannot stop the Count from killing her husband. And Mercedes leaves him. She abandons not just her husband, not just the Ct, but the memory of Dantes himself. He is truly a prisoner of the past, and when the Count kills Mondego, Dantes will die. Worse, he will be forgotten. And the music builds. And the speed builds. And then 4:55 is the single most riveting, smoothest and most satisfying piece of animation y'all have ever done. I congratulate you, and I thank you for sharing this. On a personal note, when the two stallions start fighting at 2:50, I never really got the whole "thing" girls have for horses. But even in animation format, you convey so much power and muscle and raw strength it's kinds intimidating. My hat's off to you. The 1:07 mark is really funny, and just a great example of what superb artists you are. The imitation of a street walker, and the disdain in his face and mocking posture makes me laugh every time. Over all, this is an absolute perfect cap to TCoMC, and I love it. Excellent job, well done, and thank you.
The head shake at 1:10 is my absolute favorite motion thsushrhtht Idk why. It just is. That said - gOD I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS TO BE FULLY DONE. THE ART IS SO GOOOOOOOD AND YOUR MOTIONS AND ANATOMY IS SO ON POINT.
It’s so perfect because you can hear the genuine mocking tone of spite and frustration he has towards her and that little movement TOTALLY brought it out. Watching this a year later just learning about it lol.
Oh man...If only WarpOut can fully animate this. Two masterminds here. I already feel so much emotion in this. I think it would reach Lullaby for a Princess' level of amazing. Its already almost there.
YOOOO This was sick! You guys are killing it! So dynamic and expressive!!! There's so much to digest here, the rewatch value is immense. Just like all your other works. Your compositions are phenomenal. You've really come to master body language, and pushing those facial expression extremes. I love it! And lets not overlook the editing! MAN! I could gush about all those tiny details and make a novel. But I'll stop here and just tell you guys how inspiring you are! And I appreciate you sharing these works with us, it's motivating as well. I always look forward to your projects.
It's incredible how well this fits. Gives me the idea of a version of Monte Cristo that has two people play Dantes, one as Dantes himself and the other as the Count, who come together for The Man I Used to Be as a duet.
How do you create such magic? I especially liked that the two singing voices are the same character, but from different times of their life. The deeper voice is this bitter Rainbowdash (sorry for the wrong names) and the softer, more hurt voice is his younger him, more innocent. And dear lord that fight was epic!
I could see this working as a part 5.5 as well, they could have landed in the field and Monsparkle could be crippled but still alive. Either which way, great work even for a WIP, you could really feel the emotion!
The previous animatic (6/6 The Man I Used to Be) was supposed to be the official end to the Monte Cristo series. But we got an idea to create this video showing the final confrontation between Dantes and Mondego. We call it an "alternate ending" because the song isn't from The Count of Monte Cristo, and so isn't apart of the musical, even though we made it apart of our series. Plus this is like the "bad ending", compared to The Man I Used to Be's "good ending". So people can decide which ending they prefer.
I rarely see ponies looking genuinely angry and hateful, I love it Hope you will make a complete animation/animatic because damn this sketches look soooo cool
Holy shit, WOW! Such intense rush of emotions from all the characters at the same time! And all fit quite perfectly to the tone of the song AND the original characters! And the amount of frames you drew in this one is just astonishing! The entire video is full of so many details, I’m blown away by how you made this song fit the overall narrative of the Count of Monte Cristo, with the Count making Fernand angry and continuing his revenge plan throughout the very end filling the scene with so much heat. Every expression each character shows fits both the song and the story of the Count, I can barely imagine how did you come up with such a masterpiece of animatic (that glance from the Count at 3:14 made me tear up a little). This is definitely a great improvement over your previous works. I’m absolutely up with the idea of the Count using the cloudy environment for his advantage over Fernand, because he’s a pegasus and he’s not match against a powerful alicorn with magic. I really like how you demonstrated Fernand’s power on 3:16 to double clarify that. It made me realize that with all the “making My Little Pony look like the Count of Monte Cristo” you kinda forget that those characters, in the first place, are Equestrian ponies, therefore they are supposed to act like Equestrian ponies, so the sheer lack of swords in this one is a very welcoming addition to expand on how the Count’s and Fernand’s iconic duel could’ve occurred in a different universe. The idea of Edmond’s spirit(?) always being beside Shycedes throughout the entire animatic is a very interesting representation of how Edmond kept his promise to be with Shycedes even if she can’t see him. It’s a cool detail that he never leaves her side throughout the entire video. Too bad that Shycedes, like in the musical’s duel, does absolutely nothing… But if she did I think we probably wouldn’t have such a brutal version of Fernand’s demise. Speaking of which! The way you portray the end of Fernand in your animatic is probably the most epic and yet the most brutal and horrifying way to die he ever had. I had to re-watch the very end of Fernand being thrown by the Count in slow-motion just to get all the details of this death, and the way Fernand looked behind him right before the impact is very true to his character, but it’s still an absolutely horrific image, comparing to his previous deaths in other adaptations. I don’t know if I like this portray more than the original source, but it’s sure something I wouldn’t be able to get out of my head when I think of this character. My favorite moment from the entire video probably starts at 3:54 and continues ‘till the very end. I remember how in the musical they made the duel against Fernand last a bit too long, and the more you looked, it was getting more and more boring and less epic. With the way how the Count completely shatters Edmond’s icon and how the eyeless image of Edmond is reflected in Fernand’s eyes is such a small and yet heartbreaking detail that made the impact on 3:56 feel even more powerful. And the way the Count crashed right into Fernand at 3:57… That small shake, even though it’s just an animatic and a 2-dimensional picture, is just so powerful especially with the orchestra appearing for the scene. All the Count’s anger is just so… Clear during the entire fall! How? How did you make this moment so powerful, emotional, awesome, tragic and epic?! Overall, I’m happy to see this NOT SMALL (5 minutes is hella lots of work, trust me, I know that) addition to your The Count of Monte Cristo AU and I’m honestly kinda horrified with you making me so emotional with the characters due to your videos… Would I consider this animatic to be canon in your AU? Fernand dies either way so... HECK YES! I need a chaotic impactful battle between those two, they are my fav babies! :D You are one of a kind with your works, Ink Potts, and I can’t wait to see what will your great minds come up with next time! p.s. omg, thank you so much for making Scootalbert canon
Thank you so much!!! Everything you've said is just ahhhhhh!! All the details you've pointed out, I love knowing people's favourite parts and their thoughts, and you've mentioned so many. Thank you :D There were times we debated using swords, or weapons of some sort, but it never really worked. Horses fight using their bodies, so these guys do too. It just made more sense to us. What you called Edmond's spirit, we always referred to while making this as "The man he used to be" XD and yeah, Shycedes doesn't really do anything but no one wants to get in the middle of two people fighting, they're likely to get injured themselves. And we always wanted Fernand's death to be brutal, to really feel that impact, to show that there's no hero in this story, that The Count of Monte Cristo is a story about revenge, betrayal and death... Thanks again for your wonderful comment, we hope you enjoy our future projects as much as you've enjoy the Count of Monte Cristo series, Stuflox :D p.s. We had to show Scootalbert at least one time! haha :)
Thank you for this lovely, lovely gift! Edit: When you go frame-by-frame right when Dash kicks Twilight to the ground, Dash's facial expressions are terrifying. And when they took off to the skies, I thought Twilight was done for since technically they're in Dash's territory and boy, did he deliver.
Clayton Poole and that’s when the count not only kills him, but Dantes, his old self. The part where The Man He Used to Be and Mercedes yells out I still love you was his last chance at redemption
The thumbnail made me immediately think "Hell To Your Doorstep Reprise". And I wasn't far off, I guess this is as close as it can get to the english reprise to HTYD (which has still not been officially released in english, come on, America!) It's so cool to finally see these two confront each other head-on, in a violent tango of death xD Thank you very much for this awesome surprise, Ink Potts!
Man I love the way that they both sing at the end it is just AHHHH it gives me shivers! Well I wouldn't want Fernand to die but unfortunately that's how the musical goes (IFreakingLoveHim) but oh lordy gosh!
Okay but being able to watch your guys' art develop and change over the course of the entire Count of Monte Cristo series and see the improvements you've made and changes you've done is so inspiring? From the first animatic to this alternate ending, you guys have really come so so far and I think it's super gorgeous and impressive that you've persevered and improved all of these years! It's inspiration to keep drawing and working and see that, no matter what, even your old art can be timeless and the new stuff can be well worth the wait and gorgeous all the same
Actually, Mondego in the book commits suicide after seeing his son, Albert and his wife, Mercedes run away (without regrets) In the musical, he dies in a duel with Edmond (some versions have Albert shooting his father because Mondego went mad, enough to kill Mercedes so that "no one can have her") It's only in the movie when Albert is Edmond's child, but he doesn't kill Mondego because of that
Absolutely fantastic. If one were to consoder the first of the monte cristo series this animatic would be considered only in need of a bit of color. You have stepped your game since then. Blessings to you
With how twisted and messed both Edmond and Mondego got because of their self-pride and desire for revenge, is no wonder Mercedes at the end of the novel decided she was better off to become a nun.
I do love how this song kind of fits with Monte Christo when you look at the Dumas-Family. Alexandre Dumas wrote "Monte Cristo". He also had a Bastard Child, Alexandre Dumas fils. Dumas fils wrote "La Dame aux Camélias". The Moulin Rouge-Movie, where this song is used, was based on "Camelias". It all comes around in the end :3c Also, fun fact, the guy singing as "Dantes" here is played by Ewan McGregor, aka. Obi-Wan, in the Movie. And man, Obi-Wan got some fucking pipes. Edit: Another fun fact, "Roxanne" in the movie has the alias of "Satine". And Obi-Wan's love interest in The Clone Wars is also named Satine. This is reaching conspiracy-levels, folks!
Did anyone else fall in love with this series so hard that you briefly forgot that this song was NOT in Count of Monte Cristo and go looking for it in playlists like a total goob? No? Just me? Okay;;;
I absolutely adore this animatic. I've probably watched this more times than I can count. The song and the art style is just intoxicating. I've watched the Count of Monte Cristo animatics from the beginning- they are a huge inspiration to me! I appreciate you guys adding a delightful cherry on top of this masterpiece. Thank you for a fantastic set of animatics!
Every few months I come back to your videos but this one in particular. I get goosebumps every time and I will always be massively impressed with how far you guys have come
It's 5am, I should be sleeping. Instead I saw the notification for this and had to come watch immediately. Excellent work! Beautiful art and wonderful choices, you two are definitely my favorite animatic artists on youtube!
Aw it would be so hard being in Shy's position cause (at least what I think) is that she kinda loves both of them. I mean over time she'd love Twilight and have a kid with him but than she finds out her old soulmate was alive. Than he ends up killing the father of your child.
In the original, she marries Mondego out of pressure after Dantes father dies and she is left with nowhere to go. Dantes actually takes a liking to her grown up son, after the two fight a duel. Following the reveal of the extent of Mondego's treachery and villainy Mercedes and her son leave him, donating his wealth to charity as they go and then living a simple life together. Mondego shoots himself later. Mercedes is not heartbroken over that.
@@angrygoat7503 I find it happy to, and i'm not sure. I would hope so, but its fine if they went for something darker. The other half of the originals ending is Mondego betrays and makes a slave out of another girl named Haydee, who Dantes ends up owning. She testifies against Mondego to help oust him, and along the way Dantes falls in love with her and frees her. The two actually go off into the sunset together lol. When Dantes is talking about being there again for "her" in part 6 of the animatic, he was probably talking about Haydee.
@@scifimisc9191 Ha it's been a couple years since this comment but I've been looking into the musical some more and thought I'd let you know that when Edmond says "her" in 'Man I use to be' he wasn't talking about Haydee. Mercedes and Edmond renew their vows of never leaving eachothers side and are still in love at the end, so it's different from the book! You can see there are actually a couple songs unreleased that take place after 'Man I use to be' :)
my favorite part is the spirit / "The man he used to be" looked great, his expression as he has a softer voice unlike "The Count", wanted to give him a hug, poor boy I loved the expressions of the characters ! How do you get that even in a wip the wings look so amazing??
It would be brutally cool if in the final version Dash used the Sonic Rainboom in order to finish off Twilight. Just imagine Twilight shouting "ROXANE!" in the epicenter of his end.
Damn! The illustrations are so expressive! So well edited too! It looks fantatic! I love the rough, sketchy look of these rough animatics. Would love to see more.
I love the moment at 3:45-4:00 that he sees the man that was, and how he slowly shattered him to become the one that would eventually shatter his facade.
At 3:14 At least Edmond realised that it's bad for Shycedes to watch this fight. (Maybe that's why he chosen flying in the clouds instead or..?) Because Twilight seems he doesn't give a shit about her wife feeling that way for watching them like this. Jeez, but still, I really love this video, it's full of with feelings!
your drawing style has evolved and i literally can't relate, i remember watching the first video of this series which was 'a story told' and having like a gut feeling that each video after the next was gonna be better than the other and i was right. this literally feels nostalgic and i'm so proud of your progress 😭😍😍
4:25 : "And hence, young Rainbow Dante's memory rests in peace". I loved it. I was a bit hesitant about how you would use this song, but the result is close to perfect! It portrays perfectly the confrontation between Dantes and... the man he used to be. In this version, the man he used to be finally dies to leave only the vengeance-driven Dantes. thank you for this. Your videos are amazing, and a true must see among this fandom!
I've built up some walls that I find rather hard to break down recently, and you''ve smashed them down, thank you, I needed a reminder of what that felt like.
This is so good. The way the song fits the animation is fantastic, there are so many emotions in it. It's a wonderful piece of art, I am so happy that I found this!
You've seen the previous Count of Monte Cristo animatics? th-cam.com/play/PLZ2lamdAZ20A5AW-fEz2-Nk4K_a0fCxSw.html Here Edmond Dantès has returned and faces Fernand Mondego as Mercédès watches. Their past selves make appearances as well.
I have no words to possibly describe how amazingly thrilling that was! It was spectacular! Well done! Along with all the editing I imgine it must have taken you quite long time, so I hope you guys are resting enough and just let everyone see your amazing work
omg.... from musicals to plays, it all started from this series. when i was in middle school, i really loved this series and would wait everyday for a new animatic. thank you for being one of the seeds leading to my current life now.
I like to think that when old rainbow is there, it's him inside looking at what he has become but him now denies his existence, believing that old him had died inside of him but in reality he's just blinded by years of rage and obsession of getting back at twilight.
Also when twilight's sees the old rainbow dash when the lightning hits and then sings, I think he feel guilt out of what he did to his friend and began to feel bad over the years of his crime
I'm begging you to upload this as a finished version. Color, smooth animation, shadow, the whole nine yards because this is BRILLIANT. I have never seen something be so incredibly incorporated and played off of one another such as this song and animation. You're doing so wonderful
I finally saw the original video for this music today and so many people were complimenting the choreography and editing. Honestly, I don't think it holds a candle to this. That one told the emotion and showed the story. THIS ONE, told the emotion, AND showed it. We already know the "modified" story from the previous animatics. Honestly, love this WAY BETTER.
I think the whole the braking of dashes reflection is signifying how twilight finnaly sees what he has done to this man and that he is no longer a weak and innocent person but a dangerous force
I think it was realizing it was actually monte
Don’t forget that Twilight probably shit his pants when he realized that
Yep I have a feeling that the kind and innocent image of Dantes versus the callous and worldly count, That old vision he had in his head that he used to mock Dantes in memory... Yep this is freaking awesome
He sees the monster he had made

Mercédes Norwega I loved the book, the movie didn’t really keep my attention though. The musical has nice music, at least.
@@flyingturret208thecannon5 my thoughts are exactly the same
@Seafoam Shimmer Enjoy!

Absolutely breath-taking!! Your talent, both of you, knows no bounds!!
Hi magpie
It's a beautiful song I like it in The the drawings are good too

@@betajediwizard5680 agreed! 100%
I’m not sure that’s what they meant, but still very poetic
THAT FIGHT SCENE WAS SO SATISFYING AND PERFECT FOR THE SONG’S BUILD-UP

Mon Dego: ....Edmond?!?
Monte Cristo: Not anymore...TRAITOR!!!
fantastic, but...Oooh wait! Even better!
Mon Dego: ...E-Edmond?!?
Monte Cristo: YEES! EDMOND DANTES!!!
gives the whole embracing vengeance as the man he was, and ultimately is, way more weight, ya know?
VYxFrost Here, a slightly expanded version.
The Count: “Say my name Fernand! *Say it!”*
Mondego, with a look of horror: “Edmond...!”
Dantes, drawing his sword and throwing the sheathe aside: *”YES, EDMOND DANTES!”*
That’s the vibe I got sorry-
Holy SHIT. If this is unfinished, I'm not sure I can handle the finished version.
This is not even colored or finished, but it`s more intense and is done better than part 6/6. Damn these animators love us too much.
This, this is the count of montecristo I knew.
A tale of betrayal, and of revenge.
And the cost of both.

Then for him to pull away and turn, just for her to reach out to him, to have him back. She was longing for that moment, the moment she could kiss the stallion she truly loved all along again and wanted to stay in the moment of the kiss with him.

@@InvaderCristi Nah but they said in the video before that, that it will be the finished product ;) (sadly for us)
It's the finished product "for now". We don't know when or even if we'll have the time to finish this thing off completely. Maybe we will, maybe we won't, maybe we'll only complete like a 10 second scene from it to test out what a finished product would look like. Either way its all up in the air. We just want to jump to other projects right now.
Literal chills. idk if it was the ponies, the musical or your absurb talent for expression of emotions, but that was awesome.
TM2DB, read all of this. I agree with all of this.

Killing it quite literally
It's incredible how well this fits. Gives me the idea of a version of Monte Cristo that has two people play Dantes, one as Dantes himself and the other as the Count, who come together for The Man I Used to Be as a duet.
How do you create such magic?
I especially liked that the two singing voices are the same character, but from different times of their life.
The deeper voice is this bitter Rainbowdash (sorry for the wrong names) and the softer, more hurt voice is his younger him, more innocent.
And dear lord that fight was epic!

what do you mean alternate ending
The previous animatic (6/6 The Man I Used to Be) was supposed to be the official end to the Monte Cristo series. But we got an idea to create this video showing the final confrontation between Dantes and Mondego. We call it an "alternate ending" because the song isn't from The Count of Monte Cristo, and so isn't apart of the musical, even though we made it apart of our series. Plus this is like the "bad ending", compared to The Man I Used to Be's "good ending". So people can decide which ending they prefer.
Nothing more ominous than a "viewer discretion is advised" without elaboration. Jokes aside though, this is STILL awesome.
i love the little head shake at "if its wrong or if it is right" that was a nice touch
"Viewer discretion is advised"
Me: "Oh, won't be that bad..."

*why would you torture yourself like this when u were finally done...... u are so brave ;o;*
This is an alternate ending, not a continuation of 6/6.
Or ink Potts is a masochist
I rarely see ponies looking genuinely angry and hateful, I love it
Hope you will make a complete animation/animatic because damn this sketches look soooo cool
You are one of a kind with your works, Ink Potts, and I can’t wait to see what will your great minds come up with next time!

Thank you so much!!! Everything you've said is just ahhhhhh!! All the details you've pointed out, I love knowing people's favourite parts and their thoughts, and you've mentioned so many. Thank you :D
There were times we debated using swords, or weapons of some sort, but it never really worked.
Thanks again for your wonderful comment, we hope you enjoy our future projects as much as you've enjoy the Count of Monte Cristo series, Stuflox :D

I hope you are still going and doing what you enjoy
Okay but being able to watch your guys' art develop and change over the course of the entire Count of Monte Cristo series and see the improvements you've made and changes you've done is so inspiring? From the first animatic to this alternate ending, you guys have really come so so far and I think it's super gorgeous and impressive that you've persevered and improved all of these years! It's inspiration to keep drawing and working and see that, no matter what, even your old art can be timeless and the new stuff can be well worth the wait and gorgeous all the same
I like how you included this. Because in the book, movie, and musical he kills him after learning that Mercedes son is his.
Actually,
Mondego in the book commits suicide after seeing his son, Albert and his wife, Mercedes run away (without regrets)
In the musical, he dies in a duel with Edmond (some versions have Albert shooting his father because Mondego went mad, enough to kill Mercedes so that "no one can have her")
It's only in the movie when Albert is Edmond's child, but he doesn't kill Mondego because of that
Absolutely fantastic. If one were to consoder the first of the monte cristo series this animatic would be considered only in need of a bit of color. You have stepped your game since then. Blessings to you

1:40 Love how sensual this is!
1:55 And so is this!
With how twisted and messed both Edmond and Mondego got because of their self-pride and desire for revenge, is no wonder Mercedes at the end of the novel decided she was better off to become a nun.
This was only 2 years ago? It feels like so much more time has passed
It all comes around in the end :3c
Also, fun fact, the guy singing as "Dantes" here is played by Ewan McGregor, aka.
Did anyone else fall in love with this series so hard that you briefly forgot that this song was NOT in Count of Monte Cristo and go looking for it in playlists like a total goob?

Hoping for a miracle and that this will get finished one day. It would be the PERFECT ending, it's SO GOOD
Aw it would be so hard being in Shy's position cause (at least what I think) is that she kinda loves both of them.
@@scifimisc9191 Aw that's a much happier ending. I wonder if it's like that in this animatic though. Besides Mondego/Twi shooting himself.
@@scifimisc9191 Oh weird.. I guess Mercedes is just kinda forgotten about lol.
You can see there are actually a couple songs unreleased that take place after 'Man I use to be' :)
my favorite part is the spirit / "The man he used to be" looked great, his expression as he has a softer voice unlike "The Count", wanted to give him a hug, poor boy
I loved the expressions of the characters
!
How do you get that even in a wip the wings look so amazing??
you've enticed me. Bravo I love that it's still monte cristo related
It would be brutally cool if in the final version Dash used the Sonic Rainboom in order to finish off Twilight.
Just imagine Twilight shouting "ROXANE!" in the epicenter of his end.
Your art style has improved so much, it's heckin awesome
Im jealous lol
This animatic is truly amazing. I keep re-watching it. The emotion in every scene wow.
*Sees ink pots new upload* "Oooooo-"
*sees "viewer discretion is advised* "OOOOOOOO!"
I love how the movements both amplify the expressions and are very "horse-like" (the neck shaking and ear flips)
Its sad to see Inkpotts get attacked by TH-cam’s new COPPA rule and now only this video has comments still on
O M G!!!!
Did I just found gold? Because this animatic has made my eyes fill with tears of excitement.
I got chills dudes.
Like.
So much émotions into an animatic
Just, congratulations guys. You are wonderful.
This is so good. The way the song fits the animation is fantastic, there are so many emotions in it.
It's a wonderful piece of art, I am so happy that I found this!
I have no clue what's going on in this animatic but the fluidity... the imagery... poetic cinema. Amazing job!
You've seen the previous Count of Monte Cristo animatics?

Here Edmond Dantès has returned and faces Fernand Mondego as Mercédès watches. Their past selves make appearances as well.
@@applemirer3937 I've seen the series, I'm just not real familiar with the source material. Thanks for clarifying! :)
I have no words to possibly describe how amazingly thrilling that was! It was spectacular! Well done! Along with all the editing I imgine it must have taken you quite long time, so I hope you guys are resting enough and just let everyone see your amazing work
I CAME FOR SMOOTH ANIMATION AND EVEN THO ITS A WIP I STILL GOT SMOOTH ANIMATIONNNNNN. AAHHHHHHHH LOOK AT 4:05 AND BEYOND SMOOTHER THAN CREAM
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LOUD I SCREAMED, I LOVE THIS SONG AND THIS SERIES AND WHEN I SAW IT I BUSTED MY FRIENDS EARDRUMS SCREAMING
I rewatch the masterpoiece every year. Still gets me stunned, amazed, thrilled and teared up. Believe me when I say, I love this story being told.
omg.... from musicals to plays, it all started from this series. when i was in middle school, i really loved this series and would wait everyday for a new animatic. thank you for being one of the seeds leading to my current life now.
Wow. This was actually done pretty well. I'm hoping for a colored version in the future.
Maybe have something like "Cell Block Tango" in the mix.
Can't lie this made me smile the entire time watching :D love your work to the both of you keep up the spectacular creations we all know and adore!
Here from a nostalgia trip, I truly hope this animation gets finished some day. You guys still have fans in the future!✨️✨️
Oh My God Yes! I love this song!! This is so amazing! 🤩
:0
Edit. I was so shocked, now I'm so happy I keep rewatching this!
It's so expressive, and the music helps so much
I haven't thought of Moulin Rogue in years but these two together is yes!
