It's the "Sindhu mode" of the Melodic (Jazz) Minor parent scale. Mixolydian in certain phrasings already sounds Indian (think Hendrix's main riff after the intro to "Third Stone From The Sun"), this makes it official with that b6.
@@supernothing77 "Hindu/Hindustan" is a Farsi or Persian translation of the original word indigneous to the Indian culture. So I used the term "Sindhu" which actually refers to what they named themselves. At this time prior to colonization. India (Modern English word) was named "Bharata". Also, note that I didn't use Mesopotamian, Asian or Indian terms relative to their languages. This is because Europeans grouped them altogether based on geographical location. So think of how many modal names you happen to see with a Eurocentric or Persian, if not Arabic terminology. There are tons of modes all over India, Mesopotamia and Asia that have older names characteristic of individual cultures. The Greeks kinda messed things up as well by not giving the real names of modes they adopted most likely from other civilizations. These cultures predate Greek musicology. So Mixolydian may have actual Indian origins. So a lot of ethnic scales have original names respective to the cultural identity of those various groups - have lost, mistranslated or permanently erased in music history. Sorry for the length, but I had to explain choosing "Sindhu" out of respect towards them.
@@TheCyberMantis I sold my soul to Cuphead, lol, but seriously I learned a lot from my Jazz course way back in college around a decade ago. I used to play some pretty warped things with this scale on my electric sitar. I love it because you get some of the warm, smoky flavor of the whole-tone scale AND you actually get to use natural 4ths and 5ths for power chords.
I'm having a feeling that those 5th modes of minor scales are metal AF, first I learned about Phrygian Dominant, now Mixolidian ♭6 (or Aeolian Dominant), awesome theory!
@@AgainstTheeWickedlyMusic it probably doesn't matter - but historically Byzantine scale is older and more established in all the early medieval Greek lithurgy chorals and songs, than Hungarian minor which probably was used in folk music in the Balkans
Dont forget symphony x! Haha another great video shred, thanks for helping to keep the metal alive and providing us humble musicians with new ways to write music. Cheers bro!
One of the easy way to find this, is to flip the melodic minor which is instead of : halfway minor to halfway major.. We start with the halfway major first, and then halfway minor
Shred makes me want to learn how to read music and understand music theory. I never bothered, even when I played jazz for my highschool years ago. I just used tabs. 😂 I've since converted to drums but have considered picking up the axe again.
I found this channel by accident. In the first moment I was extremely confused by the thougt if this "is Jóhann Hegg from Amon Amarth who hæd dyed his beard and turned into a guitar teacher during pandemia?" - This "no concerts" condition leads into severe deprivation that causes wild satanic - viking - hallucinations. Sorry Scotty, 😉 my apologies for my crooked sense of sight but by the way your channel is the best channel I found on the internet by far dealing with the dry stuff of music theory in an very interresting and useful way so I sold my soul instantly without the slightest hesitation to the God of shred. 🤘🏻😈
My Friend: What would you do if you could shred like Shredmaster Scott? Me: I'll tell you what I'd do, man, two chicks at the same time, man. My Friend: That's it? If you could shred, you'd do two chicks at the same time? Me: Damn straight. I always wanted to do that, man. And I think if I shredded like that I could hook that up, cause chicks dig a dude that shreds. My Friend: Well, not all chicks. Me: Well the kind of chicks that'd double up on a dude like me do.
Shred you are the Keeper of Souls for sure I need to stop wasting the pathetic time that I call my life and sign away my soul in the blood of my essence and actually learn something... Lol just playing nah but for real though your right I need to get to patreon and get some true knowledge I always learn a little something when I watch your channel. Shred till your dead my lord ! 🤘
Waiting on that Kamavardhini scale!!!!! Oh well the other "Indian" scale will do I guess. Pl check out guitarist Baiju Dharmajan / Motherjane. His stuff is amazing
hey shred can you do some videos to explain some of children of bodom songs how they use scales and all of that like the song hatebreeder or kissing the shadows
Reminds me of the movie Midnight Express. I used to think there were 1/4 tones in this kind of music. Its like a BS version of this style of music done with western theory maybe IDK.
The scale has a nice resolution and is easy to resolve. But Idk, just doesn't seem like my style. I like lydian augmented better and posed a challenge for me and was so different in all kinds of ways. This is too boring to me, idk. Though I like it, just not what I'm going for at the moment. Skimming around for ideas so might try lydian dominant next. I need some sad futuristic sounds that don't sound too bright or too horror genre sounding.

I recently found this channel and Shred is hands down my favorite guitar youtuber
agree, meme guitar channels are the one who takes over.
EVERY time shred does his sinister laugh ... Lmfaooooo gets me every time
Perfect and well rehearsed
It's so purposely lazy and low effort but sounds good anyway rofl.
Mhuhauahahaha
Mwuhahahahaha
This scale is perfect for a good chorus after a really tense verse, in my own experience
for sure muhahaha
CAN YOU NAME A TUNESTER THAT HAS THIS IN IT?
Never thought of lowering the sixth in the mixolydian mode but man, I think this was the missing ingredient to get me writing again. Thanks, Shred!
make some evil riffs brother
this whole video sounds like a movie trailer

very interesting
I see someone already sold his soul, for the secrets of music theory mastery. You were too late, Shred.

Metal AF: Single Ladies scale
Your understanding of music is something, but the way you articulate your understanding is so majestic and beautiful
4:26 damn thats a great riff
Idk what it is but there's just something about shred's evil laugh that makes me feel a new emotion everytime I hear it
I love it. Is no one hearing how Trent Reznor uses this same scale in one of his biggest hits on keys?
Which one is that?
This has to be my favourite so far
That etude was sick Shred, love me some Mixolydian b6. Keep chugging away, you’re almost to 100k!
One of my favorite modes! So mysterious.
You know that these videos are priceless!! There’s lots of creativity that goes higher and higher!!! Your amazing!! Keep them coming!!
Your video on Circle of fifths really cleared things up for me and I'm a bass player....huge help thank you
Awesome 👏
Creeping (death) up to 100K subs man. stoked!

Those last riffs are sick. Absolute savage

The chords make me think of Illumiation Theory by Dream Theater.
brilliant as usual
This mans mind is just so awesome.
Damn this channel rules
The only guy who got me interested in theory.
Your laugh is so contagious
That 1 dislike must be the Devil himself.. pissed off that you're taking his souls !!! Muhahaha

You got ethereal in this one.
Anyone notice how great his 2nd fingers form is? Man I gotta sell my soul already
I love this guy!
That scale is pure magic...
It has an inverted gravity feel, usually you use E7 to resolve to Am But this is different, Am here resolves to E major.
This scale has such a perfect amount of tension and resolve
veil of mayas first album is full of these
I loved the part where he said "It's shredding time" and shredded everywhere

Ends in Minor Tonality

Phrygian b4 will always be more metal. But, this is a good “major” equivalent.
