    Whoever doesnt appreciate SF1 arcade did not grow up experience sf1 when it came out since it was the #1 game which is why it was a commercial success at the time compared to other games.
    Yes it was rough around the edges and difficult but thats what made it also popular since it took risks to experiment and its difficulty to do special move was a treat to pull off (did at times 2/3 damage) compared to now which is common, and games evolved to had to make a super special attack, then multiple meter super special, and keeps evolving to even more since not even basic SF2 is impressive to many now.
    Did you see now ryu's level 3 super rush special sf6 finishing move with all the bells and whistle? LOL that kind of amazement for sf6 trailer some had it the same when Sf2 came out and the same when sf1 came out.

    This game is amazing. I remember when it first dropped online, then it went missing for a long time (at least for me) until I found it about a year ago. It plays fantastic, my main issue though is there are no throws. I'm going to take a crack at editing it myself. Maybe I can implement throws and maybe Guy and Haggar if possible.

    I would be interested in a video about MUGEN. I used to make MUGEN characters and stages back in the early 2000s. I made a few CGI Transformer characters and actually got college credit for it! (I was studying computer animation and computer programming / computer science. I do computer programming professionally to this day, but never used the CGI/animation stuff, so my knowledge there is way out of date.) I also made a Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star with sprites ripped from the terrible Hokuto no Ken 7 Super Famicom fighting game, giving him extra moves and voice samples from Akira Kamiya, his official voice actor, which the SFC game didn't use for some reason. (Then some Italian guy asked me if he could make new sprites and I said he could. I don't know what ever became of that.) And since then, that Fist of the North Star arcade fighting game was released, so my "improved" SFC character became unnecessary.
    At one point, the people making MUGEN announced they were switching platforms to Linux but would eventually release a Windows version, too. I waited for this Windows version for a long time but then I just kind of forgot about MUGEN. By the time I'd learned that an updated Windows had actually been released it was decades later and I no longer had enough free time to work on characters. I doubt the MUGEN related websites I used to visit even exist anymore.
    I'll have to see if any of that stuff I did has survived. I might have it on some old hard drives or burned CDs, assuming they're still readable. If I did find them, I don't think they'd even be compatible with the current version of MUGEN, but someone might be able to do something with the graphics, sounds, etc, or figure out how to convert them.

    It's not that the special moves required "special precision" to be pulled, it's that they worked different.
    Street Fighter registers your inputs in a different way than how modern games do, the attacks are performed not at the push of the button, but at the RELEASE, that is very important. If you have a copy of the game try it, hold the punch button and nothing will happen until you release it. This is a relic from the days of the original arcade machine that had pressure sensitive buttons.
    Because of this, if you want to pull a hadouken you have to hold the punch button, then perform the move (↓↘→) and release the button. Voila, hadouken.

    • @19zach75
      @19zach75 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I grew up playing Street Fighter in arcades, and you are absolutely correct. The timing of your specific attack depends on the release of the button. I played the "6 button" cabinet (never played the infamous pressure-point giant 2 button cabinet) After many months (and quarters) of playing against both the CPU and human opponents, I mastered Ryu/Ken's special moves. Still was far more difficult than mastering them in SF2.

    About Street Fighter 2: It has 6 versions: World Warrior, Champion Edition, Turbo, Super, Super Turbo and Hyper.
    And about the original Street Fighter 1 terrible gameplay, it had punch pads instead of buttons. They worked at negative stance on the code for special moves. When Capcom released the traditional button arcade, they FORGOT to change the code, so, for a Hadouken for example, instead of the traditional down, down/forward, forward and punch, you had to hold punch, down, down/forward, forward and release the punch button. If you do this, the special moves work flawlesly, this is why many people suffer to do special moves on SF1, because there's an error in the code...!
    And one opinion: Capcom should make a Street Fighter 1 Champion Edition, with the original graphics, but with polished gameplay, all characters being available to select, remade voices, and an ending screen for all characters, and put this version in any of their thousands of collections. But I guess they very busy today, doing another boring remake of some Resident Evil game...

    Never got the love for SF1 as games like IK came out years earlier on home computers. SF2 deserves all the kudos though as it finally was a ground breaking arcade fighter.

    I knew this game for years. It's mainly known here in Brazil, as many brazillian TH-cam channels also cover this game. I would love to see more mainstream TH-camrs for the Us and Europe playing tjis game, such as Maximilian dood, to see what they think about it.
    Fantasy strike is another game that has the same issue. Even tho it's a recent game, I see almost zero coverao of this game online.

    Can you actually create side scrolling Beat Em Ups within MUGEN as well? That seems like it would be an amazing addition to the software & not that hard to implement either.

    It's a rare case of something being very important even if the product itself wasn't all that great. Like Harmageddon/Genma Wars. That movie established a lot of anime tropes/cliches for years to come, but the movie itself has serious pacing issues given it was based off of a long-running series.

    As an indie game dev... can tell you one thing, it is not easy programming sprites to interact with one another... Street Fighter has come a loooong way.... a lot of programming has gone into the progress of the Street Fighter series: Shin., Marina, Macchan, Ecchro!!

    lol am i the only one who liked the game better when it was just a prototype for what was to come later? i legit enjoy street fighter 1 for its historical value. not saying this stuff invalidates that at all but i feel sad that people say its a "bad game". its just the posterchild of games that havent aged well, but at the time it was cutting-edge and a great time with friends.

    I have 3 criticisms for that remake:
    1. The damage system is wayyy too low. The fights end up being a little too long.
    2. No defeated character portraits like the original version.
    3. No mini-games in between fights like the original version.

      Agreed, it can't be denied that SF1 is objectively a bad game, but one thing I do like about it is how strong specials are.

    • @Atombender
      @Atombender 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The thing about SF specials was that it was almost impossible to pull them off because the CPU flat out refused to correctly read joystick input most of the time, making a well-timed Dragon Punch a matter of luck, not skill. This issue was addressed in SF2, as a result, easy special moves like the Fireball were substantially nerfed in power.
