      The impact of this event being held on the very first day sets the foundations for the teams they will become. Day one recruits work with their Drill Sergeants to overcome an exhausting day of challenges resulting in greater cohesion!

      @@GoArmyKansasCity This sounds like the same pitch that was given to me when there were shark attacks. Soldiers are going to learn to be a team regardless. This was just a dumb change of curriculum that became a waste of time. Break them down and bring up the better individual before you start making them work as a team. However, if that's how the top brass who know more than me want it than it is what it is.

  • @SirMysticRob
    @SirMysticRob 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    From what I've observed, combined with my own opinion going in at 31 (so I'm between the generations on this and the Shark Attack) it seems like the earlier generations needed something like a metaphorical slap in the face to fall in line and follow orders, but they could work together once that's successful, while the current generations need to literally be forced to work together to get the job done to learn how to be part of a team and not be conveniently lazy while others work.
    Both seem valuable in their own ways, but the Shark Attack seemed better for weeding out the mentally weak before even starting training. That aspect, as well as forcing class clown types to fall in line might be a bit lost without the shock and awe factor anymore. Otherwise, this is a cool change, but there definitely needs to be a disciplinary Shark Attack sort of thing for anyone not immediately following directions or who doesn't seem to take things seriously. I was afraid I would smile/smirk at someone getting berated during the Shark Attack and get berated myself, now it's like can some kid make an inappropriate joke or laugh at others despite carrying the cans? Or will they get scared straight in a way for failing to take things as seriously as they should? If they add that sort of aspect in too, the combo seems great. On its own the lesson is solid, but it seems it can be learned throughout Basic as well, while a mental toughness and obedience check seems useful on day 1. The Shark Attack also helped those who might waste time and quit later just give up day 1 without that waste of time.
    That said, I don't believe it's about the newer generation being soft vs the old generations. It's just a different lesson adapted to current times and perspectives.

    Ok you can call me old fashioned like 90 percent of the old timers probably watching this delivering all kinds of close minded statements, and not to say this isn't a cool concept but here's what puzzles me and I went through in 2017 wheres the shock and awe/reality check factor? At what point is the discipline instilled? Wheres the overall message of "This is the standard and you will maintain it"? Sure I can understand the logic but the shark attack was a sure way of getting that message across loud and clear we weren't "getting yelled at just to get yelled at" we all knew there was a method to the madness. The way I see it they're gonna learn about teamwork the whole cycle, I'm not saying get rid of this like most who are stuck in the 80s to early 2000s but personally I think it needs some minor tweaks. Also did the trainees egress from a Shinook? Bc that was pretty cool

      Very good points! This is the very first event of Day 1 and there is actually quite a bit that happens over the rest of the day where many of what you mentioned occurs. This is a new Day 1 training event for Basic Training soldiers. Although it varies from unit to unit the overall theme is the same - Provide the same effect as the shark attack while providing actual training value and building the team concept. This takes roughly the first few hours of the day and if followed by many other more traditional activities.

  • @davidbarr707
    @davidbarr707 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You are not training soldiers anymore. You are training a bunch of weak individuals who will break at the first sign of stress. This generation is ruining this country every single way they can. You think Russia or China are sitting around holding trainee's hands? Weak, weak, weak. If they can't handle getting yelled at as soon as they get off a bus, how in the hell are they gonna be expected to function when when people are actually trying to kill them? Imagine if my grandfather's generation got treated with kid glove in basic training. Would D Day have even been possible? I think not. They would have just froze and died right there on the beach. Get back to training soldiers and not Survivor contestants.
