The Doors at their very best, here. No psychedelic or film-school pretensions, just sexy blues-based rock. The band is tight af and Jim sounds hot. To answer Lex's question about anyone copying the Doors' aesthetic, the singer from the Cult certainly attempted it; even joined the surviving band briefly on the County Fair/Indian casino circuit in the 2000s, iirc.

I heard the Aerosmith cover of this song at about that age, and was already familiar with "People Are Strange" from radio. I bought the Doors' Greatest Hits double album based on that, and discovered how awesome they were. My dad couldn't believe I was getting into "The dirty Doors", as they had been known in his day. He said he almost went to see them live, but my mom said "no way" because she was a prude.

I found myself engaging with bands back in the mid-seventies onwards whom had a singer that didn't sound like a little girl. My situation with the Doors was more about having heard them on the radio since they debuted so by the time I was old enough to really appreciate them, I was already way too familiar. I believe David Lee Roth was the next guy that sang like a guy whom got my attention.

Great words, you are correct. Yep their songs never get old. The Doors in my mind are up there with all the great bands including the ones you mentioned, they were freaking special. It was a wonderful time being alive despite all craziness happening in the world.
On a side note, I shed a tear when Joplin died, Hendrix died I shed more than a tear, when Morrison died, my heart about freaking exploded.

I was just 8, 9, 10 years old listening to the Beatles, the Doors, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zep, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, the Allman Bros. etc. plus all the great music on the radio and Motown on tv. He is inviting, he tells her woman to love him several times that night. He’s going to go away and he wants it twice. Almost a challenge.

The doors were out during the Peace & Love era and they were the opposite side of the coin the dark side of the sixties. I believe the guy in the song is going to war and that's why he wants to be loved 2 times hes gone away

You guys should react to The Doors more…
"Five to One", "The Crystal Ship", "Twentieth Century Fox", "Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)", "Back Door Man", "I Looked at You", "End of the Night", "Strange Days", "You're Lost Little Girl", "When The Music's Over", "Hello, I Love You", "Love Street", "Touch Me"

I'm not gonna couch it. This is basically a song about doing the do and it really captures that feeling of having a partner that will just indulge you.
And yeah - - it's old as shit - - but is still conveying that attitude.

As far as your question wondering what kind of newer band has The Doors style, I would say some early Stone Temple Pilots has that kind of vibe. And some early Kings of Leon. Before the Sex on Fire mainstream stuff. React to Genius or Red Morning Light KoL!!

Where do I start. No bass guitar. Ray Manzarek took care of bass line, had a little electric thing on top of his keyboard. Can't remember what it's called. Then drummer was schooled in jazz. John Denmore. Robby Krieger was schooled in Flamenco guitar ergo he could play lead guitar and rhythm at same time. No other band of the '60's came close to this configuration. Unless there were 9 in the band...or more.
