      I think the reason that you are better than most is because you genuinely want to inform and not try to be a celebrity. We don't have to wade through endless waffle to find the info. So refreshing.

    I discovered your channel by way of the interviews you did with Mike Brown and am glad that I did. Thank you for a very much for this informative video on using the custom settings feature - very timely as I've just acquired my D7200. Have been experimenting with street photography and want to save a basisc set of settings for that purpose - now I know how ! As you say in the UK, Brilliant. ;-) Cheers

    Good. I was wondering how to use this feature.Now I know. One thing I wish you would make a video about: How to use focus magnification on D7100 when manually focusing. On my Nex5 when I start to turn the focus ring--when in M mode--the live view changes to a magnified view. If this magnification isn't enough, I can press the exposure comp button on the back of the camera and the magnification doubles (in M mode when focus ring is turned).This all happens BEFORE the shutter is pressed. Is there a feature like this on the D7100? Or can we only magnify an image that has been already recorded?

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When the camera is in live view you can press the QUAL button on the rear of the camera, it has a magnifying glass with a + in it. This will zoom into the image and allow you to manually focus. You can move the magnified area using the multi select pad. I will look at making a video on using the live view functions. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.

    Hi Dave, I enjoy photography on a basic and cheap level in keeping with my station in life. Can you please advise me on an ideal setting for the Nikon 7100 and a Sigma 170-500 mm (old version, no vr) lens please? I usually photograph landscapes and maritime subjects. Thanks in advance, Tommy.

    Hi, I'm using a D7200 and I would love to use the custom settings, but it doesn't allow me to change from P mode to Manual on the custom setting menus... Any advice on how to change that? Thank you...

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Trevor, the custom setting will be based on the mode used when storing it. If the camera is on P mode when you create and save it, it will be as a P mode setting. You can adjust the aperture, shutter speed and ISO while in U1 or U2 but it will revert to the original, saved setting the next time you use it. I hope I have understood your question correctly? Thank you for watching, stay safe, Dave.

    1st of all,thanks for going into the lengths of shedding some light in the customization of such an amazing Camera.Well,I've tried myself setting this Camera up in a similar manner,but I noticed that when I tried saving different Quick Menu options -the Menu Button,configured to summon My Menu when pressed- ,even though I may had opted for different Settings to be used for each U1/U2 Dial Position (as long as the CUSTOM MENU SETTING,and the numerous customizable options therein,are concerned!!!) the Camera would NOT accordingly assign these.To be more specific,I might had set U1 to summon the Manual Exposure MODE -with an array and wealth! of various specific Autofocus,Metering/Exposure,Timers/AE Lock,Shooting/display,Bracketing/flash,Controls Setting's Options,but each time I would try to alter these outside U1 Dial Position (let's say,with the Dial Position turned to S Priority),and then save all these to be used in the U2 Dial Position,then my specific Rank,and Setting's of the U1 Dial Position would be altered as well to match those that I only meant & wanted to be used in the U2 Dial Position.This undue and automatic in-Camera reconfiguration of any one of the U1/U2 Dial Position's Memorization would happen again the other way around.So,my understanding is that this must be some limitation of the Camera (that can probably be partially bypassed by the capability of the Camera to Save/load Settings between different Memory Cards placed in the Slot 1).I hope I made my observation as clear as possible,however I would like some feedback on your behalf,simply because I may miss something important or obvious here,or even if this is a real limitation of the Camera's internal workings we could ask Nikon for a Firmware Upgrade (alongside with the much-sought Fix for the VR Mechanism on the recent AF-P Lenses not being turned to OFF using the Camera's Menu System),in the case that many User's (and there must be plenty,as this Camera is rumoredly a cashcow for Nikon) make such a Petition.Thanks,in advance for your precious bit of time,looking forward for your insightful comment.

      Hi Lallos, this is not an issue that I have come up against before. The only suggestion I can make is to try a very basic setting i.e. specific shutter speed and aperture, save that to U1 and then make a different but basic setting again and save to U2. Just to test if the camera is functioning correctly. It may be that some of the setting adjustments you have made are unable to be stored as user settings. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.

    • @lalloskonstantinos1258
      @lalloskonstantinos1258 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot for the overly prompt reply.Actually,my Camera is clearly (Tried & Tested) capable of setting everything so simple as those things you duly suggested.As a matter of fact,I must have made quite a convoluted presentation before of what I thought could be an ideal way of setting up this Camera.As much as I don't like spending other people's time,I must clarify once again(hopefully,this time in more home terms) what were these specific Settings I found to be reciprocally changed between the U1/U2 Dial Positions - that is to say,if I assign a Setting in U1,the very same Setting is assigned inexplicably to the U2 as well - ,and make me think this Camera could do with a Firmware Update,addressing this limitation.Besides,I have looked far and wide inside the Manual & the Menu Guide for the Settings that could NOT be saved as User Settings for this Model.Well,the array of Settings I was mentioning before can all be found (either as Menus,or Submenus) under the 4th Tab from the top - i.e. CUSTOM SETTING MENU,and specifically,these are the a3,a4,b4,c1,e1,e1,e6,e2,e3,e5,a9,c4,c5,f1 Options - ,which should lend themselves - in my ideal scheme of things,at least - to be differently set for U1 and/or U2,in order to serve the purposes of shooting,let's say Flash/Macro Photography with U1,and Wildlife/Action with the U2.Anyway and anyhow,you surely don't have to test these yourself,as long as each Photographer develops their own way of working,even when two individuals have exactly the same goal.I simply wanted to air my views about something that looks quite convenient and promising for me,and to have someone more knowledgable than me in Digital Cameras' matters to put to rest the fears of having a faulty Copy of an otherwise superb Camera.Thanks,once again,nice chatting with you...

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lallos, my suggestion of simple settings was purely as a means of checking that the camera can store two separate user settings. If it continually changes both of the user settings rather than just one I would suggest that there is a fault with the camera. I have two different user settings stored on the U1 and U2 options. Sorry not be of more help. Dave.

      Thanks,anyway.All and all,it was only about the choise set forth by the "Choose tab" Sub-menu located in the "MY MENU" Tab ( last to bottom,when pressing the MENU Physical BUTTON,on the left hand ) ,which offers one option between any of the "RECENT SETTINGS",or "MY MENU".Have a nice Christmas,and a more enlightening New Year!

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Fareez do you mean when you press the shutter the camera keeps shooting or setting the shutter speed to stay the same? For the continuous shooting there is a ring under the Mode Dial, turn that to Cl or Ch. to keep the shutter speed the same set the Mode dial to S and set the shutter speed you require. I hope this helps, have fun, Dave.

    Is there a way to keep in mind my camera under U1/U2 that I want it to be 1,5x 60fps for video and DX for my pictures. Honestly it's a pain in the ass having to change quickly each time I want to shoot a video then put it back in DX to shoot photos...

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately the image crop is one of the few settings you cannot set in the U1/U2 function. You can however quickly change the DX setting by using the FN button on the front of the camera. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.

    Hi my camera d7100 lens is 18-140 I want to learn the blurd background how?

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Estella, to achieve the blurred background you will need to use a wide aperture. Your lens would be f:3.5 if you are using it at 18mm and f:5.6 if you are at 140mm. It will also help if your subject is distant from the background. I hope this helps, there is a video on my channel about 'depth of field' that explains it further. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.

    Can you change the actual camera mode (A S M P) while using either of the U modes? In your example you saved both to M but once shooting could you switch to A priority for example? I had thought the U1 and U2 were exactly like the older D3 menu bank A and B but seems less versatile if you can’t switch modes on the fly while using.

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could set a U mode to be A,SM or P and save that but to change while shooting you would need to come away from the U1 or U2 to enable the other modes. With the A, S and P modes you are allowing the camera to choose the aperture, shutter speed etc. so this would no longer be a custom mode as it will constantly change according to the meter reading. You can adjust, aperture, shutter speed and ISO while in a U setting, which it what I do. I use the U settings as a basic set up and then adjust as I go along. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching, have fun, Dave.

    • @ThePhotoShow
      @ThePhotoShow  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sajjad, unfortunately the D7100 and most DSLRs all have a 20 minute record time for video. It has something to do with the tax difference between a stills camera and a video camera. As far as I know the only cameras with an unlimited video record time are the Panasonic G4s and G5s as they are classed as video cameras. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.
