I used to have Abel and Cole - loved the food, but it was getting very expensive, so I switched last year to Oddbox, as I liked the concept of rescuing the food, and it was priced at £10.99 for the XS box. However now that they have increased the price by £1.99 and added the delivery charge of £1.49, it is considerably more expensive that buying in the supermarket., so reluctantly I am going to stop getting them.
Aww, Lola has gorgeous colours! I ordered an oddbox a few weeks ago, like the concept and the idea of being environmentally-friendly, didn't find it all that good value for the amount of veg I received, but it was nice to try some veg I wouldn't normally buy (Beetroot, Chicory, Turnip, etc).
I have found the same. Had another box since. The quality of produce has been excellent, and very fresh, but it is dearer than the supermarkets. I like that I eat different things too.
I have used Able and Cole in the past they are really good a good choice of boxes and the option to swap items. They also deliver dairy, meat and store cupboard staples. I'm about to resume my deliveries ,I like getting the fruit and veg loose and not in plastic. It's not cheap but there's always some discount codes to find.
Thanks for sharing jane,I have a local delivery of fruit and veg for 22.50 that may sound expensive but it lasts me a fortnight I have box packed full to the brim of every thing,it’s delivered on a Friday but only if I message them ,as I usually have one a fortnight works for me,I have tried organic boxes in past same sort of price as mentioned but not much in the box still ended up going to shops
The Odd Box looked such a good idea, hopefully in the future their prices may come down when more people use them. Good for the environment and less waste
I had a service in California U.S. for awhile. I think it was called Imperfect Produce. It was suppose to be good produce, but not perfect enough for grocery stores. I subscribed for awhile, but after analyzing what I was paying I could buy it much cheaper by watching sales and buying seasonably. I like relying on my own frugality! Great video Jane.
Id be keen to see how the other boxes turn out, Much as I like kale I dont want enough to bath in. Yes freeze it, and its great then in smoothies. or stews etc. I used to get a lovely farm box, it lasted me a fortnight, and was everything in season. Just a little too much for a single person when my partner worked away
Hi Jane, that was interesting but I did think it was really expensive for what you got. I know what you mean about the brocolli rut I have that too and I am a vegan. 😂Sometimes I find it is hard to be adventurous in the supermarkets like Asda as they don't have that much variety so veg boxes can be a way like you say to try and vary what you get. The problem is at the moment with everyhting so expensive it becomes another overpriced thing. Great video though, have a lovely week.
Hmm, the concept of odd box is good, but I wasn’t impressed with it. I had it going for a few weeks and the first couple of boxes I loved. Even though it was a bit pricier, like you I enjoyed the surprise of different veg, the fact it was saved from going to waste and that it was less plastic. However after a few weeks I found that in general the quality wasn’t that great, some of it went off quicker and that despite me excluding some items, I still got them in my box. This happened on a few occasions. I’ve tried other boxes and personally the best for me was riverford. Dependable, quality, seasonal organic veg and you can add extras to your box Inc. fruit and meat. For a standard veg box it costs a bit more than odd box but not hugely more, and the quality is much better. Plus it’s organic. For saving money though, you’re better off just going to your supermarket and finding the deals.
In an ideal world, Riverford sounds brilliant. But my budget is a bit tight currently, so I will probably cancel in a few weeks and stick to the supermarket.
Sometimes I order heavy groceries to be delivered at my door. It is very convenient, but not cheaper than buy the same amount from the stores. I do not have a car at my disposal so that is why I either use a trolley (a big bag with wheals) or buy less (not more than I can carry) and go more frequently to the stores. - Lidls veggie/fruit box is a bargain, but often hard to find and I just cannot plan my whole life for hunting them!
Try and make kale chips in the dehydrator? I made them in the oven ages ago and they were really nice. Like a salty snack healthy crips replacement. Cats do love boxes it’s so funny!
If you can find them.... our local one has them but usually people go through and take out the good stuff for their box and leave all the potatoes and wrinkly stuff. Having said that, I have been lucky on a couple of occasions and they are amazing value.
Brilliant video. Thanks for covering the odd box, it’ll be interesting to see the difference between each of your boxes over the coming weeks. Do you still pay for the week you skip, is there a time notice for for this?
Mine is delivered on a Wednesday and I have to skip it before the previous Saturday. But no you don’t pay if you choose to skip. I liked the second box contents too, but have skipped next weeks as I don’t need much more produce
I looked into using Oddbox but in the end didn't. I live in a large UK city and my front door access is on the pavement/ sidewalk. I did use a different fruit and veg delivery company. It didn't work out for me for a number of different reasons and cancelled the service after 6-8 weeks. Your box of products looked good.
Not a huge quantity, although it was actually enough for us. The second box was good too and I think better value. It’s more expensive than Aldi though, for sure
Yes that’s true I was really thinking it would be good to get one at the start but the price put me off to be honest I think it’s nice to try different things though Jayne xx
I tried odd box, but I found it expensive for what you got, especially not knowing what you’re going to get. I didn’t think the quality justified the cost either. I really wanted to like it, but I didn’t.
I have been impressed with the quality of the two boxes I have had. But it is more expensive for those on a tight budget. I do actually enjoy not knowing what’s going to arrive 😊
In your intro you said you bought Extra Small box but when you unpackaged it you called it Small Box. Which one was it? I'm guessing Extra small by the cost - however, the price for an extra small Oddbox in September 2023 is currently £11.49 . Are you still using their service?
No, I didn't continue it. It was good but quite a bit more expensive and we are growing a lot of our own. I had an introductory offer if I remember rightly but can't remember if I got extra small or small!
My brother has a greengrocers he can't buy veg at the price aldi sell for but his produce lasts a lot longer and tastes much better trust me I get through alot 😂
Yes sure. The greengrocer in our town is very good value too. I think the delivery element adds a lot to the cost. I would have to pay to park for my greengrocer so would have to add about £3 to anything I buy from them. Although I like the idea of supporting them, I don’t get into town often to buy from them sadly.
It’s definitely not a good deal if you won’t use it. We have eaten everything from the two boxes we have received. I love not knowing what’s coming. But if I had fussy children still it wouldn’t work at all!
Kale actually freezes well! And then you can take out a handful or two and add to stews, soups and curries as needed!

You can't help but feel their costs should be lower than the supermarkets, although I guess they don't have the buying power.
Sainsbury's are getting better with their wonky veg. And Lidl's too good to waste veg box's are absolute bargains (but very difficult to get hold of).
I have found the same. Had another box since. The quality of produce has been excellent, and very fresh, but it is dearer than the supermarkets. I like that I eat different things too.

Yh, ive used them wondrful produce and great staff but bit pricy tho.
I bought my daughter her first box last week. Great success!
That's good. Do you think she will continue with it?
Thanks for sharing jane,I have a local delivery of fruit and veg for 22.50 that may sound expensive but it lasts me a fortnight I have box packed full to the brim of every thing,it’s delivered on a Friday but only if I message them ,as I usually have one a fortnight works for me,I have tried organic boxes in past same sort of price as mentioned but not much in the box still ended up going to shops

I really like the concept. The quality of the produce has been really good too
It seems the opposite. Extra small now costs £11.49
It might be nice if they use twisty ties for the kale.

I think I am finding the same as you. It's a great idea, but a tad too expensive.
Id be keen to see how the other boxes turn out, Much as I like kale I dont want enough to bath in. I dehydrated the kale, and it turned out great! It was a bit too much, though.
Hi Jane, that was interesting but I did think it was really expensive for what you got. Sadly although I like the idea of the odd box I did not think it was value for money.
I've started buying my fruit and veg off the weekly market, trying 2 time it 4 just after lunch when the prices drop.
Definitely the cheapest option! I don't get into town much and we don't have a great market, but if we did I would make more of an effort.
Try and make kale chips in the dehydrator? I made them in the oven ages ago and they were really nice. Like a salty snack healthy crips replacement.
Cats do love boxes it’s so funny!
I suppose I did make kale chips before I powdered them. I will have to actually taste them next time!
@@ShoestringJane with salt and other seasoning like nutritional yeast or anything spicy or salty they are really nice. Even the children loved them.
This company will help people live longer. Impressed 👍
Hi , The box of veg - 😳 - £7.50 ( Totally unbelievable ? ) Lidi has loads more in a box for £1.50 ever week in store x
If you can find them.... our local one has them but usually people go through and take out the good stuff for their box and leave all the potatoes and wrinkly stuff. Having said that, I have been lucky on a couple of occasions and they are amazing value.

I think your odd box was really pricey Jayne
Not much in it was there xx

Yes that’s true

I have been impressed with the quality of the two boxes I have had. But it is more expensive for those on a tight budget. I do actually enjoy not knowing what’s going to arrive 😊
Would you recommend or just go to the supermarket instead??
I probably wouldn't buy again on my current budget. Much more expensive than the supermarket, but good if you can afford it.
In your intro you said you bought Extra Small box but when you unpackaged it you called it Small Box. Which one was it? I'm guessing Extra small by the cost - however, the price for an extra small Oddbox in September 2023 is currently £11.49 . Are you still using their service?

I always prefer to pay a bit more to individuals or farmers than cheap chain grocery store corporations
This is appealing. If money was no object I would always go for local, less packaging and preferably organic too
Have tried to order from them and tried 2 different addresses in 2 different areas but they don't deliver to either
My brother has a greengrocers he can't buy veg at the price aldi sell for but his produce lasts a lot longer and tastes much better trust me I get through alot 😂
I bet it’s lovely quality. This was very fresh and lasted a long time
Aldi imports a lot of their veg etc from China. Its far from fresh and doesn't last. I wouldnt buy it.
That’s ridiculously expensive - my local greengrocer is way cheaper.😱😱
Yes sure. The greengrocer in our town is very good value too. I think the delivery element adds a lot to the cost. I would have to pay to park for my greengrocer so would have to add about £3 to anything I buy from them. Please could i order a small box fruit amd veg
Ha ha! If you like 😂😂
I thought I'd like to give Oddbox a try but I just checked and they don't deliver to my postcode in East Yorkshire 😕
Yes, they aren't everywhere yet. They have only just arrived here.
What is stilton??
It’s a type of blue veined cheese we have in the UK
The odd box doesn’t look like a great deal...much of it I would not use....
It’s definitely not a good deal if you won’t use it. We have eaten everything from the two boxes we have received. I love not knowing what’s coming. But if I had fussy children still it wouldn’t work at all!
Potatoes are not a vegetable.
Absolutely rip off i have a outdoor fresh fruit&Veg stall i can get double the amount for that price
Yes, good concept but not cheap
