Honestly, I've got some mixed feelings... While living in Riga I didn't realize all this weird stuff like trains totally inaccessible for disabled people, ugly tunnels throughout the city centre, crossing railway and so on. What I really miss is Latvian food :) It's delicious!

There are definitely many aspects on how you look to things in Riga, food is definitely amazing. Latvian food for a latvian eater, what can be better:) this was a bit nostalgic trip to my hometown and Riga in general, for many circumstances.

What you forgot to mention is that the Type of Electric Passenger Train you showed were actually manufactured in Riga during Soviet times for a lot of Soviet Towns: by Rigas Vagonu Rupnica- (if spelled wrong it is unintentional)- anyways during part of their factory history they also built Electric Trams too.

I have definitely forgotten and not told a lot of stuff on this vlog, as this was a nostalgic hometown visit trip for me, but yeah you definitely spelled the name right (RVR), It was definitely a top name in Soviet era train production, it was a huge thing. Was cool to ride one of those still in the same form and shape as I remember them nearly 40 years ago. Big thanks for watching and commenting, hugely appreciated!

Yes, that is also true! Thanks for reminder, travelled some weeks ago and totally have forgotten that those "elektrichka" (a soviet suburban trains ER) were produced in Riga too!

Probably you don't know there are new modern 32 electric trains Skoda bought in 2018 and now 3 are delivered in the Autumn 2022, now they are certified and in 2023 all 32 are supposed to get in service to Jurmala too :)
The whole Central Station and the Market area is being rebuild as part of Rail Baltica, there also be a new bridge over Daugava river, the rail embankment will be changed for estakāde, Old Riga therefore will be united with Lastadia and the Central Market (which also is supposed to be restored) etc etc and everything will be competed by 2025-26, the first part of the station by 2024. Googling it you could see how it will look like :)

Thanks for a thorough reply on this topic, yeah, cannot wait for well deserved changes to my city, and for once again it was so nostalgic to still ride on those Soviet era trains to my hometown!

@@TWOLOVELYPEOPLETRAVEL Old RVRs diesel trains (just refurbished) will work until 2030, so there is a plenty of time to get nostalgic :)

A beautiful video about Jurmala, you were lucky with a sunny weather! By the way what’s your gear (action cam) and which program are you using for editing videos?
    Good luck in your journeys!

Thanks! Well, in this particular video we did not have action cam (normally it would be gopro10), but just iphone13pro and my favorite Sony a6300 for a few shots. No external mic on iPhone so everyone can enjoy the strong wind now :)

@@artemfromeurope Wondershare Filmora. Back in days tried Sony Vegas, Premiere. And 4 years ago found this Filmora that is much easier to operate, and you can still achieve a lot for more or less basic editing, and this software is getting only better.

labas from Vilnius. One month ago I visited Jurmala for 2 nights. Quite interesting, the Baltic beach, near the capital city. Even thinking to relocate to Latvia. Of course, I compare your country with Lithuania. Definitely, Riga's center and old town is better than Vilnius. But in Latvia I saw so many depressed people, many of them are Russian speaking. I adore ice swimming, so probably it could be paradise to practice it during the winter. Strange, Latvian's are leaving Latvia, foreigner's are coming there. Jurmala is very beautiful.

Yeah that is in fact exactly when we went there - beginning of October, been to Lithuania here and there before, and Lithuania feels actually somehow different to Latvia. We liked Lithuania a lot. Talking of old towns of capitals of Baltic states , I think I like Tallinn the most, but again, it all depends on cirtumstances of your visit. And spot on, the depression is high in Latvia, especially in the darkest months :) Thanks for watching and commenting my friend!
