  • ** UPCOMING WORKSHOP: Carl will be offering a one day, 6 hour online workshop on broadstroke technique on April 27th 2024. carlpurcell.com/products/broa... **
    A Gift:
    I meant to give this to everyone for Christmas, but life had other plans. I have been wanting to do a complete walkthrough demo to give to everyone on my YT channel and FB channel just to say 'thank you!' for the support. It has been a real adventure for me exploring the world of teaching online, and with regards to the online platform, I am indeed a student. So thank you for your support as I have learned (and continue to learn) the tech needed to do this!
    I really only started exploring the possibilities less than a year ago. I had a youtube channel but had never done anything with it. My son and I began collaborating on how I could share my knowledge and experience with a wider audience online, and I am happy to say since then, I have taught many workshops and demonstrations through Zoom. Our goal is to make the content always better and more useful. So I hope the technological progress is reflected in the more recent videos.
    In this video I am painting a landscape scene of a farm here in Utah. I talk a lot about not getting caught up in the details, but rather to focus on the overall painting that is being created.
    There are a few tips and tricks in the video, a lot of painting and discussion. I hope you enjoy it and that is helpful! If you enjoy it, please share and subscribe!
    Happy 2022 everyone.

    I just found you and I loved this tutorial! Helped me understand how to reach my desired results and I was thrilled with my results! I am a home-taught beginner and I feel like I am being given not only the ability to produce a picture, but to understand the theories that support your artistic style and can bring that to bear for my own art! Your generosity as a teacher is wonderful!

    Beautiful. I’m a beginner and have noticed the masters don’t make a big fuss, they just get after it in a relaxed enjoyable way. One painter I watched grabbed some brushes saying “ I used these a while ago for an acrylic painting but that’s ok” then proceeded to plunk down a masterpiece. Thanks for the lesson, I need it:)

      Thank you! 😊 You may not know what you are doing, but you have to act as if you do. I never know from the outset what the painting will look like, but I have a pretty good idea of how I would like to have it look. However, I have to let the painting dictate a lot.

    I began painting with acrylics and have been selling some paintings but something was always missing. I realized now that it is your values lessons. So I read your book "your artists brain" and watched this video and others and im fascinated by everything im learning. It really was what was missing in planning my paintings. So thanks

    depends on the tree - branching patterns vary from one species to another for example: Excurrent: the main trunk goes the entire height of the tree, with branches forming patterns; eg. Evergreens.
    Decurrant: The main trunk continues up about halfway, then splits into more than one main branch; eg. fruit trees.
    Columnar: The main trunk continues the full height of the tree, with the branches forming only at the top; eg. Palm Trees.

    • @CarlPurcellArt
      @CarlPurcellArt  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. It really pays to observe the branching pattern of each species. Taking out 4 or five motifs helps me to understand the individual pattern. Then I can create my own version.

  • @louisklein9207
    @louisklein9207 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I was looking at some of the tutorials you have for sale/rent. My biggest problem is the colors. I watch you doing this and so you adding blue into browns. Even the silo has 4 or 5 colors going on and trying to figure this out always trips me up when trying g to learn and follow along. Do you have any tutorials that cover this issue of mine?

    • @CarlPurcellArt
      @CarlPurcellArt  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Lois, I am working on a beginner series that will explain how to mingle colors on the paper. However, until that is finished try this: Tilt your painting board at about a 20 degree angle. Bring a brush full of water to your palette, then add some color to this (Ultramarine blue perhaps). Load your brush from this puddle (don't get rid of any of the water), and lay a horizontal stroke on your paper. Notice that the water and pigment flow to the lowest edge of the stroke.. Add another stroke just touching the previous one. Now rinse your brush and load it with a Water + Sienna puddle. Water is the key here, not pigment. ;Place a stroke along the bottom edge of the previous stroke, rinse the brush and quickly add a stroke of water, once again only touching the bottom edge of the previous stroke. If you add a couple more strokes of water (just touching the previous bead of water, you will see the pigment and water flowing together, and both colors mixing on the paper without the aid of the brush.

    • @louisklein9207
      @louisklein9207 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank for the response. I think I understand how to get the colors to mingle. I think my question is how you choose what colors you are using

    • @CarlPurcellArt
      @CarlPurcellArt  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@louisklein9207 I don't have any system. I simply think Warm color then Cool color.

    • @louisklein9207
      @louisklein9207 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So is it something in the photo that you are seeing telli g you to use a warm then cool color or is it a matter is design preference you like to use? Either way I’d like to learn more about that. Color isn’t very intuitive for me

    • @CarlPurcellArt
      @CarlPurcellArt  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@louisklein9207 Color is more arbitrary for me. I think in terms fo value pattern, and color is the emotional element. I just have a rule for myself, "Carl, when you go back to the palette for more color, change the color. Either get a new color or change the one in the brush. Maintain the same value, but change the color."
