    Yep , you'll get one two or three bad lifters out of 16... And you'll get one two or three bad roller rockers out of 16... Expect to go back down elbow deep twice... If you're lucky, it's a cross about every brand...

    • @KidKevi

    I have a 98 Formula that makes a knocking/ticking noise seconds after start up, when the engine is cold. Once it makes noise for a few minutes, it settles down and is quiet again... any ideas if this is lifter or something else?

    • @KidKevi
      @KidKevi  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That sounds to me like piston slap , very common issue for Ls engines , especially the earlier renditions. Typically piston slap is not harmful and means your engine has more hp than a tighter one ;)

    I have a tick on my driver side that sounds very much like this. I have an all new valvetrain, minus the rocker arms. I’ve even tried three different sets of lifters so I’m starting to think it’s a rocker arm issue. I have factory LS3 rocker arms with CHE trunnions. Pretty much all of them have lateral movement when the valve is closed, which I though was normal, but my isolated tick is on cylinder 1. I think I’m gonna do BTR rockers with their V2 trunnion upgrade

    • @KidKevi
      @KidKevi  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Definitely go with an encapsulated needle bearing kit , the bronze bushings are garbage man !

    • @bwill03z76
      @bwill03z76 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@KidKevi yep apparently so. I have gold glitter in my oil so obviously the brass trunnions are already wearing down. I’m pretty sure the BTR v2 kit is a needle bearing kit. Idk if my lateral movement is normal or not and it’s on several rockers but the ticking noise I have is only on cylinder 1. Makes no sense at all!

      @KidKevi  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Can you jiggle the rockers to test for play in any engine position or do the valves need to be in a certain part of their cycle? I know when torqueing the rocker arms, the valve has to be down/seated before you torque the rocker arm, but wasn't sure if giving them a wiggle was the same way.

    • @KidKevi
      @KidKevi  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A rocker will only wiggle at 0 lash , whenever you check pushrod length you go through this process man , always be sure to double check length in any engine build

      @@KidKeviI'm a little lost then. I have an LS3 making some valvetrain noise and I've never done this before. This weekend I'll have the valve covers off to replace the gasket and while they are off, I want to inspect the rockers and springs. Basically anything I can see without taking anything apart. I went with the encapsulated 8620 steel rocker arm upgrade. Many people have told me that CHE is the best. I wouldn’t worry about it man , the kit in the video is PRW and they are no longer available on summit , not sure about other places though.
      You can also check wear at 500 mile intervals to see if the rocker fulcrum has dug down through the bronze like in this video. Good thing I got them pulled out in time !
