  • Just like the last test that was 50--100%, but this time charging almost the entire capacity of the battery!
    So how long does it take to charge a 2016 Chevy Spark EV from 4% to 100%?
    Not long at all! 12.7 kWh of energy delivered in only 18min.

    12.7/.96=13.2kWh battery. 12.7/18*60=42.3 kW avg charge power. 42.3/13.2=3.2C charge rate to 100%. Best any other EV can do is 1C to 100%. SparkEV is still the quickest charging EV in the world by wide margin.

    Oh wow. That's amazing the Spark can handle all that current even close to 100 percent. How much degradation do you think there is? I have a 2015 Leaf and have about 85 percent capacity left.

      I used Torque Pro and have estimated that I have roughly 72% of the original usable capacity.

    Does the Spark have thermal management?

    • @EVResource
      @EVResource  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, active thermal management using glycol cooling.

    Do you still have the car and how has it been running ? Thanks asking because I’m looking to buy a used one

    • @EVResource
      @EVResource  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope. I sold it December ‘22. I don’t recommend anyone buy a used Spark EV. Too much risk of failing parts that are no longer available. There really isn’t much support from GM for these cars even under warranty, and without a warranty… I just don’t think it would make much sense at all.

    Sounds like you're in for a battery warranty replacement very soon. Once battery capacity drops to 65% of the 18.47kWh design capacity -- 12kWh in your case -- you get a free refurbished one if you're under 8 years / 100,000 miles. But better to start testing capacity at the dealer as soon as you think you're eligible because I've heard the dealers don't really have it all together .. it takes forever according to a 2014 owner.

      Unfortunately the local Chevy dealerships have refused to replace the HV battery pack unless there is a diagnostic code and "check engine light" showing.

    • @EVResource
      @EVResource  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's funny looking back on your comment. My HV battery failed entirely and the car has been sitting at the dealership for the last month waiting on a replacement with no ETA on when that'll happen... :(

      @@EVResource Dude! That's sad. It's good you were promised a replacement but there's a chance you'll just be offered a buyback. Niik on the Spark EV forums reported as much for his 2014 after the battery failed QA.
      Also as a 2015 Spark EV owner, this process is pretty insulting, but I'm not all that surprised it's ending this way for their limited production grudge EV that they really seem to want to make disappear. To their dismay, I have a feeling they expected replacement packs (manufactured several years ago) to retain the promised >80% capacity, but because of storage conditions, calendar aging has started degrading them beyond that threshold. I'm not sure what the statement from the GM rep in your Spark EV battery update video was talking about, I don't think they ever continued to manufacture packs given how GM operates and how their service manual asserts a degraded replacement capacity threshold. I guess at the end of the day a buyback must have been what they meant by "not leaving owners behind", except that's exactly what they're doing to the community of owners.
