Day 3 - Joint Session of the ICSOE for North and West Africa 2024

Theme of the meeting
The theme of the thirty-ninth meeting of Intergovernmental Committee of Senior Officials and Experts for North and twenty-seventh meeting for West Africa will focus “Accelerating AfCFTA Implementation in North and West Africa through digital transformation and economic diversification”.
The theme is not only topical, but it is also timely given that the African Union theme for the year 2023: “Acceleration of AfCFTA Implementation”. It is also closely related to “digital connectivity”, one of the Six Transitions, catalytic entry-points to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs.
The theme is also relevant given the challenges related to health, economic, social, food insecurity and geo-political conditions in the two subregions and over the past 5 years. Globally, countries showed resilience in combating the COVID 19 crisis and this focus evolved into post-pandemic economic recovery, including finding solutions to food insecurity inflicted by geopolitical conflicts and climate change.
Objectives of the meeting
The main objective of the meeting is to discuss and draw action-oriented policies for utilizing digital transformation and diversification to accelerate the implementation of AfCFTA.
The meeting will also discuss the results achieved and the future work programme of the two Subregional Offices, review the subregions’ economic situation and prospects and identify actions needed, as relevant to the development priorities of the North and West African countries, to accelerate the path towards achieving the SDGs.
