You see so many chateau channels, and a convent, but this is very interesting. The fact that these buildings are probably 900+ years old is even more interesting. @@yipnpaulshelpweboughtavillage I believe the carving of the face is something called the "green man", the other one appears to be a sheaf of wheat maybe? I've not studied it in detail but is common in other buildings in France.

Absolutely! We think that’s very likely the case, probably pilfered from a Chateau somewhere, whoever put that much effort in to move it all those years ago deserved to have it we reckon. 🤣
Still catching up, that fireplace truly is incroyable - if the mouldings are circa 11th century have they come from somewhere else? A real surprise in Cottage no 2 ! Le Forge ?
@@sallyward517 We’re literally still piecing things together here history-wise, quite often in the past ornate pieces were pilfered from chateaux in the area but this is huge so we are thinking that on this site many hundreds of years ago there stood a much more grand Manoir or the like. Possibilities endless. I would remove that 2nd floor completely and use the space for a living room for your house, or I would put in a rest room and a coffee bar and use it as a Cafe for your many renters. I'm thinking that, with the bakery and the forge , there were businesses in the village. If you are successful at bringing new life to your village, perhaps renting out shops which would provide convince and employment to the area at large. There's so much you can do. How exciting! You can make the world a better place. There are a lot of treasures among the trash. You ought to sell some of those rustic French antiques to raise money. Were I a younger man I might have imitated you. I can think of nothing more forfulling than what you're doing.
For budget and time, wouldn't it be better to put in a wood Burner in that large fireplace, for initial development. Also, a wood burner would be safer for fire resistance in this rental development and the adjoining house you live in now . Maintain the historical fireplace details as full as possible for appearances. Conceal, the wood burner piping through the existing fireplace chimney... and get to fixing place up to rent as soon as possible, to bring in revenue and help cover major roof repairs on this block of buildings. A cooker/ wood burner would also, speed development for rental as the tenants of facilities would be able to prepare food and hot drinks on it. After you have several rental units up and working for you, generating funds for necessary work, then go back and renovate this fireplace to historical use. Most important is to secure your investment properties by making them weather tight and self sufficient in operating funds and in necessary repairs, such as weather proofing. Also, by do the necessary weather proofing and structural repairs to the attached property to your home, should help support the structural and heating integrity of your home. House of cards.. If this adjacent property suffers structural problems, won't it cause or risk causing same to your living quarters? Get the exterior structural repairs made as soon as possible while the weather is cooperating and save the interior work, primarily for the colder weather or rain days or during heat waves(because of shade offered with interior spaces).
That’s so good to hear as we love all of the old doors at La Buslière, the front door on the newly acquired cottage shown on todays video is stunning and we are most definitely wanting to do whatever we can to keep it., so pleased to have you on-board C…🙏
Quick question... Will the bread oven building become rental property? To bring in essential revenues? With the industrial kitchen up and working for your Lorry rental next door, couldn't tenants in Bread Oven building, use that same kitchen space for food prep and hygiene for year one of tourist season ... so long as the Bread Oven building has a few beds and sitting area? Then in off tourist season, you could look at creating independent kitchen and shower block area into the Bread Oven building to increase usability and revenues from Bread Oven building in following tourist season. After you have several other rentals, up and going, you can convert the Bread Oven building into an alternate purpose if required. Funding for ongoing work seems a priority right now at the start of your big Hamlet project.
Bonjour DeeDee, thanks so much for your comment, it’s so great to have you on-board, keep those great ideas coming, your ideas are so helpful. The bread oven building is far too small to offer any kind of meaningful revenue from accommodation so we are going to have it as the kitchen / catering hub for all of the events we hold in the long courtyard that runs the whole length of the row of cottages. We do however have plans to turn the beautiful building next to the bread oven into accommodation and incorporating other uses to raise revenue as you say 🙏🥳
Hi. Been wondering how you two are going. How's the bread oven. Lovely cottage, but must admit I reckon you need the extra space of next door. Would adding next door, take away from another cottage? Do you have roughly the same amount of space in your cottage as what is already here in this 2nd cottage. Hell of a fireplace, well worth making a show of it. Best wishes from Australia
