    Nice one. What I like is you have the attitude if a jobs worth doing , do it right. Your customers are very lucky to have you about, worth every dollar.

      Problem is time/money - you probably know this yourself
      To do a good job takes time and some customers do not want to pay

    Hi Mike. Exact thing happened to me with the PAS pulley chewing belts. A retaining key inside the pump had worn a notch and allowed the shaft to come forwards - new pump for me

      Nice diagnosis. Btw, thanks so much for keeping LR Diagrams online! I use them very often. I asked mr. Mike about that pipe that comes out the thermostat housing. Your online diagram shows the part pep102840 or err3622. Do you know how to replace it? Or, at least, if it is posible to be replaced? Thank LRWorkshop!

    Mike, I had the same thing when I replaced the PAS pump with a britpart on, the pulley was slightly out of line. I just trimmed off the frayed edges and had no problems since

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the Laser line you can determine if it is the PS pump or water pump that is out of line, but this is not the first time I have seen belts shredded like this for no reason

    When I bought my 300tdi the PAS pulley was too far forward, exactly the same problem, there was also an entire strip missing from the width of the belt. I bought a new pulley because the old one was worn, and just squeezed it on. But always had a feeling that it was the pump. The belt still runs perilously close to the back edge.

    This is what got me about Land Rover, "I don't know what they were thinking that day?" Something's so brilliant and others? EG the distributer on the 2.25 brilliantly adjustable but the points cam on it just crimped on, of course it fell of in the middle of nowhere one 43 degree day (Australia is a BIG HOT country!), But then, I did get it home!? Than there is the brake drums and adjusting those on series trucks?? (Had some hair raising adventures with that thing because of them brakes!)What were they thinking? And that was a 1972 model. Some things so brilliant others designed by 12 year old apprentices. Don't get me wrong I still have a real soft spot for LR's, they endear themselves somehow?

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a lot of things LR 'dropped the ball on' in design, that could have been fixed but would have cost money and tooling

    Hello mr. Mike, did you replace the connetion pipe on the thermostat housing ( it was corroded, isnt it?)? The one that goes to the bypass hose... is this a replaceble parte? searching the web, i found the part pep102841, but how to remove the old one from the housing and then insert the new one? Thanks, mr! Nice videos as always!

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I polished it up prior to fitting there was no pitting - I think it is cast into the housing and not an individual service part

    • @rodrigotomita6473
      @rodrigotomita6473 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BritannicaRestorations I thought the same, but on the diagrams it looks like it is assembled or pressed into the thermostat housing. Another thing I've notice, the tube is made from steel (yellow galvanized) and the thermostat housing is cast aluminium, aren't they? Well, actually I am not sure if it is steel, but they look dissimilar materials (the pipe and the housing). Anyway, maybe the best way to solve the correded pipe is replacing the complete thermostat housing. Thanks for your attention, mr. Mike!

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a steel pipe and I am not sure how it is held in - I do not think there is a thread

    • @rodrigotomita6473
      @rodrigotomita6473 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BritannicaRestorations that part number pep102841 is a threaded tube with the hexagon fit. So, maybe the solution is to remove the corroded pipe, make an inner thread at the housing and then screw the new pipe into. It seems to complicated... anyway, thanks for your attention, you are very kind.

    G'Day Mike. Matey at the start with the laser alignment it looked to me like that pulley was on a slight angle, so it made me wonder if the bracket was possibly bent a little. But with what you did to fix it, no need to worry about it.
    Oh an btw, that lil bugger is still ringing your doorbell :D

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That laser is a bugger to set up as you cannot use the automatic levelling in the unit as the engine is on an angle, but you can lock the vertical line - - even leaning on the truck will knock it off line

    Could the pulley be fixed in the drillpress and the face skimmed by 3mm against abrasive set at 0° then washers added to mounting bolts?

    That's why l don't like them engines they put in the defenders after mine,mine being a 4bd1 diesel l would don't know what your take is on these engines but the only trade off is they noisy and shake,l remember when l got mine l decided to drop one of the mains and Conrod caps to check for wear,well l didn't have a tension wrench that went to about 170lbs for the main cap so it was expensive exercise to buy one and trying to tighten it up on the ground.😁😁

      The con rods on the 300Tdi are woefully unbalanced - go back to a video I did last year on a 300 tdi with new rods - none were the same balance - once sorted it was (and still is) like clockwork - night and day
