    Sam, don't know where you got data that EV prices went up in Europe but industry analyst JATO Dynamics collated data that shows that in the EU the average EV price have fallen by 15% by the end of 2024 whilst ICE prices have risen 7%. In the UK EV prices have fallen 11% whilst ICE have risen 14%, with the EV price premium falling from 51% in 2018 to 22% last year, and a number of models in 2025 at or near price parity between EVs and ICE vehicles. Also, in the UK 1 in 5 BEVs are now retail for less than the average ICE car price.

Then we thought we'll wait for the Tesla Juniper but not going anywhere near Tesla's now. Now it looks as though we'll wait for the Geely Riddara RD6/King Kong to arrive in Europe. Great value workhorse/family SUV pickup.

    Sales went from 14 million in 2023 to 17 in 2024. With China's cheap EVs entering half the World and Europe's new carbon emissions targets, I'd be very, very surprised if we didn't end 2025 with at leas 23 million EVs sold.
    In the same note, total vehicle sales grew from 88 to 90 million in 2023-24 approx. This means that 2025 is the year when ICEV sales start their collapse.

Chinese NEV sales should be at least 15M in 2025, easily bumping the global total to 20M. A small Chinese push for 50+ km PHEVs and EREVs over ICE cars, and it's 17M (global total 22M). 20M is about 25%, that's good. My personal gut feel here in the UK is more people will be driving EV's could be used ones, outright purchase or leased.
    I really would not feel comfortable buying a new petrol or diesel car right now knowing that it may be worthless in a couple of years time.
    Prices for used ICE cars will drop again, in 2023 ICE had over 94% of the car market but in 2024 this had dropped to just over 52%. If I was in the market for a replacement vehicle say petrol, it would be on a lease of some description, I would not like to be left holding the baby in a few years time.

    Electric vans (pre-registered, so effectively brand new) in the UK have discounts of 63%, and there are very few for sale, explain that ;-) The cost of charging on public chargers here is also eye-watering, the equivalent to running a petrol car that does 16mpg! Plug-in hybrid still the only sensible way to go, 85mpg (ish) and over 800 miles to a tank, a no-brainer methinks. I still have a petrol car by the way.

    • @iscadean6038
      @iscadean6038 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Eye-watering? Tesla superchargers charge £0.51/kWh. BP and Shell charge £0.78p. So my Polestar 2 costs about £12.50 for a 50% fill up which gets me 120 miles. My Volvo XC90 cost £100 for 280 miles. Thats eye-watering. So Polestar costs ~10p/miles. Volvo costs £1/mile. Ten times the cost of my EV. So my EV gets 145 miles/egall.

    • @PhatSimey
      @PhatSimey 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@iscadean6038 Wow, that XC90 is eye-watering, used to get way more than that (430 ish miles) from my 2011 Range Rover sport! Domestic electricity tariffs £0.25/kWh so you're being properl robbed at any of those public chargers. Good figures on the Polestar though- for 'mpg' at least 🙂

    • @iscadean6038
      @iscadean6038 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ my octopus energy Intelligent go account gives me 7.5p/kWh. Which is what I use most of the time. Plug-in hybrids are the worst of all worlds. Twice the potential for going up in flames as an ICE, which is 60 times the potential for burning over EVs. Twice the complexity with petrol tank, radiators, water coolant, ICE engine, EV motor, inverter, Battery - heavier than either ICE or EV so worse tyre wear. I’ll stick to EV only. Cheaper, quieter, faster, low service costs, etc. oh forgot to say. No emissions in use. ICE and EV create 15 tons of co2 during manufacturing. ICE and hybrids produce 50 - 70 tons of co2 over 200k miles.

The car sets the scheduling and will only charge during those times using the iPhone app. I can warm the car from my bed, shower, dress, eat breakfast and get in a warm, ice free car. Defrosting using the same app. And no emission no ‘warming up’ running an engine. And no sound.

    It will be interesting to see the sales of NEV (PHEV and EV) in China this year and next year. Part of the reasons sales of NEV in China has been skyrocketed is because of the exemptions of the lottery system in major cities. I heard this exemptions has been removed in Beijing so NEV will need to enter the lottery system as well. If Beijing already removed the exemptions, expect other major cities to follow suit shortly.
    So it will be interesting whether chinese still buying NEV over ICE if they need to enter the same lottery system.

    Not only do these growth predictions include hybrids as well as BEVs, but more than half - 12.9 million out of 20 million - of these sales are predicted to be in China. That leaves 7 million vehicles that could include an unspecified number of hybrids, to be dispersed around the globe outside of China. At the present time we do not know what action, if any, the UK government will take in the next few months to try and boost BEV uptake. There is some talk of guaranteeing low interest loans for consumers - or maybe not - or reducing the 2025 quota - or maybe not. The EU as well isn't clear on what if any support will be offered. But we know for sure how many vehicles of unspecified mix of hybrids and BEVs are going to be sold world wide. Colour me sceptical.
