As an international student in Edmonton, Canada, I worked and studied in University of Alberta. I studied M Eng, and I worked as a Resident Assistant in my university dormitories. It was a great job, and I found so many university friends who were international students like me! I got to work more than 20 hours per week, because you are allowed to do so if you work in your university, and I did support myself in terms of food and rent expenses.
I have done some other jobs as well, for example, a sales associate in a grocery store and a pizza chef in a bakery, but these jobs were terrible, because I would get the rudest customers ever. I quickly realized that a university job would be better all round.
I have now completed my program, and I am now working as an RF Planning Engineer in Rogers.
There were tough times, I wont lie, but I think I did quite ok, and now I am working in a prestigious company! Therefore, it is all worth it in the end.

YES not only Canada even Australia's all call centers are based in India these days ! they only pay less than 10% what they pay in Australia - outsourcing is the way companies make money these days especially outsourcing to the third world where you pay a fraction of what you pay in the developed countries !

average russian citizen works for roughly $3.00 / hour, most of the time even less. i am a junior iOS dev, and i got $6.00 per hour so far. Not bad, right? But still, about two times less than average student can get for their part-time job!!!

Great video! Why do you think some people struggle so much to find part time jobs as student? I’ve seen many saying they were able to find a position easily after landing in Canada, but some others don’t find even after a couple of months. That is something that worries me when I consider immigrate through studies.

I think it’s because Canadian employers want Canadian experience and many people don’t have it. Also, many students don’t have any experience, so it makes it harder to find a job

As a newcomer to Canada from Brazil, with experience only in my country, I have been finding hard to get a decent job. However, you can get cleaning jobs (which is what I am doing right now), but honestly it sucks a lot most of the time and I receive minimum wage while having to spend money to go around the city everytime.
I moved to a better located apartment (not downtown Toronto though), and I will go out handing my resume to places like Dollarama, Winners and so on, as I`ve been told they are very flexible with schedule (great for part-time student) and they pay the same as I earn on cleaning, but I can walk to the stores and do much less heavy things.
So you should just take this into consideration, but again, it is my personal experience and I was told all the time that I would get a job as soon as I stepped here, which did not happen.

@@trainerzard7 I am really sorry, but I haven't been here this long to give you that information. However, I do know that if you get paid on cash and you have the option to choose how much of that you deposit into your bank account, you'll pay less. This is usually for jobs that don't hire you by your SIN number and it is not very advantageous if you're trying to get permanent residency, as you won't have any work experience that counts for the government.
But I am really sorry that I cannot give you the information you asked me lol
