@@jaemate21 Ghana won't! The indicators by which a coup is popular among people are absent in Ghana. The current sweep of the coup in the subregion is a proxy towards France and the West who have held on to the nation's natural resources and rendered them poor. Ghana is in no such position.

Maybe Ecowas members are also determined to stop the string of coups in the region before they are next? The other military regimes were so quick in supporting the one in Niger that it seems to me like cooperation in preparation of the coup is a possibility and Ecowas can’t continue to suspend members for ever at some point that would effectively end the whole organization

Mind you, most of the ECOWAS nations pledging to send military have illegitimate presidents themselves. They’re just scared the same thing could happen to them. Nigeria launching a cross border war against Niger will create nothing short of an embarrassment the way Ukraine embarrassed Russia! Despite its large population and size the Nigerian armed forces have been systematically defunded and underdeveloped due to extreme corruption, incompetence and weakness in the face of foreign interests. They failed against Boko Haram, the failed against Cameron during border skirmishes. Soldiers haven’t been paid in months and are still fielding Soviet era weaponry! Nigerian generals are overweight whilst their Soildiers lack morale and are unsupported!

As a Ghanaian I personally do not think a full on inter state conflict will occur. West African governments while corrupt and rather dull at times understand well the cost of war. Nigeria and Ghana supply large amounts of power to Niger, Burkina Faso, and Guinea. A war will only lead to the embarrassment of West Africa as a region, new instability in the region (already happening with the terrorist groups), and an insane amount of bloodshed. Also, no matter how much power the juntas have, once the terrorist groups start blowing up schools, churches and shooting up markets, they'll realize they're way over their heads. Mali and Burkina Faso can barely handle the terrorist groups as is, how the hell are they gonna handle a modernizing and western funded ECOWAS front??? Ofc I could be wrong and if I am, I am kind of excited to help my country in a war. Especially against the Wagner group. Russia and China may have to leave West Africa by force it is beginning to seem.

Africa needs heros and I, an American, can see a hard foght victory over the West & stronger ties with countries who've always backed them is a good thing but not you, someone in or from the region? PaxMagna, you obviously a genius! You need to work for our government as an expert witness to what is really going on in Africa. I like your attitude, that you could be wrong, because NOBODY CAN SAY WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN IN CENTRAL AFRICA. Sadly, human nature and history clearly indicate that US interests in Africa will always be contested by Russia and China or their proxies. And I don't think any of the major players (even us!) care about genocide in Africa (or China and Russia). Clinton could have made a statement in his reign, but probably saved no innocent women and children in the final analysis. Now I personally like Bill, but, wtf good are tits on a bull? If we don't stand up for the downtrodden in any region of the world, we should get the fuck out regardless of the economic damage.
The perfect example is Iran. The ordinary people don't want war with Iraq, the US, or anybody else in the region. But, they lack resolve change their own government. In reality, Iran's mullahs already control the Straits of Hormuz because it takes the entire fleet to guard it. If you factor that into the cost of crude, it would be cheaper to pay Iran whatever they thought it was worth. Pull the fleet back to clearly open international limits and stay out of coastal conflicts that are clearly regional. The US can and should openly support whatever faction they want with rhetoric, but anything else contributes to instability and a bad international reputation.
And let's not forget that it's the super rich ONLY, that benefit from US armed intervention in the world. Cheer all you want the good ole USA, but you're an idiot cause you're putting all that money into the hands of the top 1% of the population who will rat-hole the money offshore or on private enclaves. You might get a little work pouring concrete for their tennis courts or pill boxes, but after the cement dries, you're otta there! Be careful what you wish for.

Nigeria *is* the strongest in the region. Most Nigerians have no idea what kind of power their military has, simply because it is hardly ever deployed against local security threats (for political reasons) , and most of its most well equipped bases are located far north.
In the past, whenever Nigeria has gone into another African country to secure regime change, they have swiftly achieved their goal- this is why it is considered a regional hegemon.

The video overlooks vital geopolitical factors. Niger supplies the EU with 20% of the uranium needed for its nuclear energy, with France receiving 15%. A proposed gas pipeline, intended to reduce EU's dependence on Russian gas, will run from Nigeria through Algeria to Europe. The recent coup in Niger could disrupt this initiative. Factors like these could indeed sound the war alarms. Moreover, aside from Ghana, most ECOWAS leaderships have come to power through questionable elections, lacking genuine local legitimacy. It's noteworthy how the West often advocates for military actions abroad, while remaining hesitant within its borders. The portrayal of West Africa as stable and prospering is a misconception. Poverty rates have doubled in the past 50 years, exacerbated by the West's influence on local leaderships, often culminating in deals that primarily favor western interests at the expense of local communities.

Well, Rabat and Abuja did make progress last year, signing MoUs with seven of the 13 countries in question as well as with the Economic Community of West African States, a regional bloc. Whole the pipeline ( which doesn't exist yet ) Nigeria Niger Algeria would be hugely vulnerable, not just to attacks by jihadists but also by local communities. Then there's the bureaucratic element, which is extremely complex and yet no one came forward to finance the project

One thing that people (not only in Africa) seem to forget or blissfully ignore about Russia and China is the fact, that these countries never gave up their colonies and imperial possessions.
The eastern three quarters of Russia and the three quarters in the west and north of China are in fact colonies. Most of those colonies suffer from unoffcial Apartheid and are more or less brutally exploited.
Are these really the "new friends" that African countries wish for??

Not really. You've just shown yourself to have no argument. So, thank you for making my case.
That said, Puerto Rico is indeed a Colony, as is Guam, the Virgins, Texastan, and basically anything to the west and south of the original 13 colonies.
That said, after WWII America was the driving force behind decolonisation of Africa. Did they have their own interests in mind? Sure, did they regularly destroy democracies? Sure.
I've been simply pointing out the fact, that those who believe that Russia or China are better alternatives, they should think again. Because unlike the Europeans, Russia and China never gave up on their Colonies.
Mind you, there are shades of bad... there is America-bad, there is German-West-Africa-Bad, there is Belgian-Congo-bad, there is Nazi-Germany-bad, there is Czarist-Russia-bad, Stalin-bad, Mao-bad, and so on and so forth.
Germany in West Africa was bad, Nazi Germany in Eastern Europe was far worse.
America might be really, really bad, Russia and China are far, far worse.
I won't tell Africans whom they should choose or whether they should have to choose in the first place, I'm simply pointing out a couple of facts that people tend to forget and ignore.
If you wish to make an informed decision you need correct AND complete information.
      THAT's the point.

I assumed you were just regurgitating whatever western propaganda you were hearing and just calling russia and china bad without also acknowledging that the united states and western countries used the exact same playbook, so apologies. I think we would both think that foreign intervention of any kind is bad for africa and is a large reason for their lack of economic success, so lets just agree on that.
