Tony Northrup brings you the latest photo news, starting with updates around the Nikon/Red acquisition. The former president and Nikon PR representatives have been giving interviews, revealing some meaningful information, including when the first joint venture cameras will be released, hints about whether Red cameras will support the Z mount, and more!
Tony gives an update on Generative AI, which is going to change filmmaking by reducing reduction costs and removing gatekeepers for production elements such as special effects. Adobe Premiere Pro will allow you to remove objects, change objects, add objects, and extend clips. It's genuinely game-changing.
Several new cameras have leaked: Fujifilm GFX100S II, Fujifilm X-T50 and Sony ZV-E10 II.
Sony & Canon both released new and interesting sensors (for you to put in your own camera if you so desire). The new Sony sensor is a large-format 247-megapixel rolling shutter sensor. The new Canon sensor is a 19-megapixel GLOBAL SHUTTER sensor.
We also have new release dates for the Canon R5 II and Canon R1. Finally, there is a supposed leaked image of the rumored Nikon 35mm f/1.2 lens.

As a Canon shooter, I'm excited for the R5 to get discounted, or if the R5 MKII is going to be worth paying extra for!
Go Fuji! All the news are great news! Thank you!
No news of the Z6iii ?
I do not know how the acquisition of Red will affect Nikon, but it seems to have inspired other camera makers to step up their game.
Lumix new camera coming any news about that next month
Here's to hoping for a Nikon Z cinema box camera 🤞
And some cine lenses to go along with it.

Of course!
I think AI is amazing for smaller TH-camrs... I always use adobe elements but with all these features, im going to subscribe to pro versions. Creativity shouldn't be limited by how much money or staff you can afford to hire. I hope AI gets good enough where it levels the playing ground between pros with unlimited budgets and smaller creators like myself. Just like TH-cam VS television programs.. TH-cam created so much jobs for smaller creators
AI is a tool for creating fakery. Room 101
Fuji seems to be doing quite fine, with products very much differentiated from Canon's.
great video good info thank you regards Athol

I prefer aperture 1.4 as it makes the lens smaller and lighter, and the difference isn't that big anyway, and customers don't think about whether it's aperture 1.2 or 1.4, so it's a win-win situation with aperture 1.4 😉
Are Fujifilm skipping right over the X-T40?
I know right? I have the xt30 ii and always found it weird that it isn't called xt40 lol.
Sony is treating A1 owners like crap with no Pre-Capture, Focus Stacking or Animal/Bird Eye AF in Video. Not buying another Sony camera after their terrible customer support
You’re right! And Yeah I’ve been saying this for a while. I was criticized by some for switching to the canon R5 as my primary camera! Was told how the A1 was vastly superior over and over. But there’s no difference in image quality. I’m not shooting at 30fps for the work that I do, plus it takes too long for the buffer to clear when shooting that quickly and the buffer fills up (as opposed to the Canon R5 if you shoot to J-peg on the SD card and Raw to the CFExpress type B card you can shoot hundreds of photos for a longer period of time without the buffer filling then it clears quicker). You have animal AF and the R5 does great with Birds. Focus bracketing up to 999 photos, multiple exposure, HDR mode, IBIS High res shots over 400 megapixels (granted this is in J-Peg, but it’s still possible), duel pixel AF, highlight tone priority, etc… yes the A1 has a stacked sensor, however, I found that most of the issues with the R5’s lack of a stacked sensor could be resolved shooting mechanically. Both the A1 and Canon R5 have anti-flicker and other options to help reduce flicker, and other issues. So overall for how I shoot and the value for money. The canon R5 was a better option over the Sony A1 and plus at that time if you sold the A1, you were getting almost the same value as for the price of how much you paid for the camera (only losing around $700 after a years use). It sucks that they aren’t supporting the A1. It’s such a great camera with so much potential, but every camera underneath it has received 10X’s more attention than the A1 and I don’t understand what Sony’s logic was for doing this. It’s f someone is spending over $7,000 (after taxes) on a camera, that’s the camera to support and it’s the flagship model. The a9 iii has received a major update and it’s only be out 7 weeks! Doesn’t make sense to me. They might have issues selling the A1 mark II because of this.
A1 is still the best camera though
@@mattricci2981no it’s not. I own the A1 and I am disgusted as a customer with Sony. They screwed up the FW update again yesterday and A1 owners are up in arms over having bricked devices now that cannot operate on account of the 2.01 FW update
This is giving astroturf
@@mattricci2981There is no best camera. There is only the best camera for what you want it for and what you are willing to pay for it.
I would like to know about any upcoming iteration of the Nikon P1000 superzoom and the Sony rx100 mk 8. These are very practical cameras but they need an update.
+ Panasonic fz1000 mk3
That sector of the market is so small as to be effectively dead. What additional features would you want?
I really hate to be the one to point this out, but that Nikon 35mm f1.2 was posted on April 1st. That was just the 85 1.2 with 35mm written on it.
Yup haha
I was extremely aggravated to find no Nikon Rumor news about the 1.2 that feels like we have been waiting forever!!
I came to look for those comments ha
Tired of Sony releasing cameras weekly ! We need firmware updates like Nikon
Panasonic S5ii/x got a major firmware update to 3.0. No News Tony?
The S5II makes me regret all the money I ever spent on Sony and Canon.
AI would definitely be good for prototyping and to get an idea across. I'm concerned about the mass use of AI as it could be misused and could bring down quality if it's not done properly
The Nikon Z 35mm f/1.2 has been on the roadmap for a few years, so that rumor might be closest to 100% likely. With cameras, especially the Canon R5II and Nikon Z6III, the 'When?' seems most unpredictable.
Tony, if you love f1.2, why not get the Sigma 35mm f1.2 E mount lens, considering you're a Sony shooter. I have it, and it's a nice sharp lens with nice rendering.
Plus, it adapts to Nikon for, like, 250 bucks.
Terrible AF and weighs 300 grams more than it should, plus it is throttled on a Stack. I would never get that lens for A1
@@hikertrashfilmsalmost stated this. Because they both have A1’s! The Nikon should be great. I’m glad they are coming out with an f/1.2 while Canon and Sony seem to stay on the f/1.4 bandwagons for some reason.
@hikertrashfilms You want an f1.2 lens for under 800 grams? lol The Nikon looks like it'll be heavier than the Sigma version. Tony implied maybe switching over to Nikon for their 35 f1.2 lens. Would you sell a Sony A1 for a Nikon Z9?
Sony just announced the Sigma 150-600 and 60-600 will no longer be frame throttled in an upcoming firmware update. Maybe they'll do the same for more lenses.
@@marksoukup1267 Right? This is Nikon. The lenses PetaPixel uses to illustrate how much other lenses weigh. And who's shooting 120fps on a 35 at 1.2? You're in a WEIRD situation if you're doing that.
Hopefully the X-T50 will be widely available unlike most Fuji cameras the past few years.
Am I the only one who wants canon to make an RF camera that rivals the freefly ember but where I can use my RF lenses?
We still waiting for the curved sensor
Where does “AI” get the photos or videos to generate an image? Does it search the internet regardless of who took or owns the image? I certainly hope I don’t find remnants of my photos from google photos that I only share with family.
Unless they've changed it, I'm pretty sure Adobe gets their training sets from Adobe Stock exclusively.
@@boundaryscience Adobe created there Stock-Agency for future AI, bypassing any copyright infringement.
Fuji! Box cinema camera with ND filters and full frame! Please.
Still waiting for my 35 1.2S haha
There is no R1 coming
game changer
Nikon will have a 35/85 F1.2 setup... Sony can’t make a 85m F1.2 because E-Mount’s diameter is too small. Sony is crippled due to it’s Mount
They Said the same about 50 1.2 still Sony made one . Just curious how did you calculate it to be to small ?
@@Herkulez1981it’s been 1,814 days since the first 85mm F1.2 for mirrorless debuted.... Sony cannot answer it
Kenji Tanaka, a Senior General Manager at Sony said in 2018 that Sony "could technically produce an f/1.0 lens, but there's no demand in the market and it would not make sense business-wise."
@@marksoukup1267you’re crazy if you believe there is no demand in the market for a F1.2 85mm Native Prime for E-Mount
So Tony only does a Short Vids about the biggest NEWS, Canon allowing 3rd Party Lens for their cropped Cameras. This is a PURE Genius move by Canon.
how do they plan on making that work?
@@raynjpg Sony built their Foundation on selling Cropped Cameras which led to folks eventually buying into FF. The vast majority of folks these days really can't afford the cost of FF plus a decent lens. Canon is setting the stage for when the vast Majority of Folks are better off financially, they will have the Right Product Mix.
@@raynjpghow they plan it to work ? Pretty Easy people Will buy a aps-c r camera now that they have a much better lens selection and then some of them will move up to a Canon fullframe camera
Its a very good move. I was going to buy a Fuji är nikon aps-c camera next to my ff Canons i mostly use for planned shoots , all of the sudden they have all the crop lenses i need and dont have to have two totallly different systems home
I don't think you can call it genius when they are by far the last major camera maker to open up their lens mount. But it is indeed good that they finally do.
the AI is never going to make exactly what you had in mind. It's always going to deliver a bad rehash of other work people have made in the past. So, I guess it's fine to use if you're making like a student's powerpoint presentation, but anything requiring more creative control or importance than that? It'll be a waste.
The Nikon 35/1.2 image was an april fool.
Another vlogging camera from Sony. When will see a competitor to z8. Only sports professionals and dentists are buying the a9iii
The a1 is a good z8 competitor, we just need the price to drop.
@@TonyAndChelseano it’s not... Sony treats it’s loyal customers who have shelled out $20,000 like crap... they refuse to update the firmware of the A1 to provide 1s Pre-Capture, Focus Stacking in Body or Animal/Bird Eye AF in Video. Sony is engaging in Forced Obsolescence, when the A1 has the hardware to do all three of these features. A9iii is a terrible choice for hybrid shooters who value landscape and nature
@@TonyAndChelsea yes canon and Nikon are killing Sony in this area multiple choices under $6000 .I love you guys but get on Sony nobody is giving shit about choices in wildlife cameras. Just oh and ah about global shutter
@@tomegan4060global shutter sucks... AI Chip is a lie. A7RV has the exact same internals as the A1 when it comes to 2x Bionz XR chips. Sony is lying to everyone, they put binned chips in the A1 because it was the first camera with the Bionz XR chip and they binned the chips to throttle it down because it was the beginning of a new model
@@adamginsburg9909canon R5 doesn’t have a “AI” chip in it. Locks on to subjects fine. The Z9 doesn’t have an “AI” chip in it locks on to birds fine with updated firmware. Not sure what’s going on with the Sony A1.
The Nikon 35/1.2 looks as big as a 300/2.8😂
Nice eclipse shot. 👍
Thanks for bringing the news :)
My pleasure!
I am waiting for a Canon... They are idiots but still I love canon
🥱
