Sir Laurens Jan van der Post, CBE (13 December 1906 - 15 December 1996) was a South African Afrikaner writer, farmer, soldier, educator, journalist, humanitarian, philosopher, explorer and conservationist. He was noted for his interest in Jungianism and the Kalahari Bushmen, his experiences during World War II, as well as his relationships with notable figures such as the future King Charles III and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Excellent! When I lived in the UK, I stayed with my uncle, who was a physician (and had been through the war as a surgeon) and had attended Cambridge University. One evening, a programme on Jung was to be show on the TV (this was 1971). This was my introduction to Jung; I wondered why my uncle had insisted that I watch it with him and found out that he had actually met Jung himself. On returning to South Africa, I continued with my interest in Jung and have done so up until the present day. For many years, I was a member of the Jung Society. I have had a photo of Jung and my uncle on my study desk, wherever in the world I have lived, for over 50 years.
