    I have never considered this possibility so I just checked all the rifles I have built and needed to invest 25 cents in the most recent which also uses the A5 buffer system. It appears that I have been fortunate.Thanks for sharing yet another invaluable tip.

    This is awesome, I am glad I stumbled upon this tip. I am on my 3rd build and never knew to check this spacing. I got lucky I guess on the first 2 (just checked spacing to confirm, though they had already been fired a bunch and they are GTG), but the 3rd and incomplete one I'm currently working on, needed a quarter. Caught it before it became an issue.

  • @petetroupos2266

    Appreciate this. This was incredibly helpful since I saw your other video mentioning this potential issue, and didn't know how to fix it when I checked my new build. Glad it only cost me a quarter. Also, that Maryland accent makes me homesick sometimes. Thanks Chad.

    Thank you for sharing the tip, it might work for me since I have a problem with releasing the bolt and not lock in position. I tested it with 2 quarters and found that mine is not as thick as it is supposed to be, and I dropped in a quarter and it seems to work. I have to go to the range tomorrow to actually test it out but I have a strong feeling that this might be the case!

    Defacing currency is only illegal if you were attempting to pass it off as currency. drilling a hole in a quarter is not illegal in any way. Example would be the penny machines that turn a penny into a souvenirs found in amusement parks, museums roadside rest areas. The penny is destroyed .

    I noticed that I have too small of a gap on 2 of my 3 rifles. Two rifles have a PWS buffer extension and Geissele Super 42 Spring. The other rifle Aero Precision Extension amd Spring. The PWS/Super 42 combo needed shims. One took a quarter and the other needed 2 quarters. I need to take the Aero spring and put in the PWS or visa versa to see if it is the ectension or the Spring...right now I think it is the spring. Have you seen this before?

    Is that also relevant for the 9mm pcc?

    • @seanmtactical6069
      @seanmtactical6069 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EVEN MORE SO! There are so many different buffer systems out there, and the 9mm bolt only needs to cycle a short distance. Many competition shooters actually intentionally shim the system out to override the bolt hold open to get the shortest and fasted cycling out of the gun possible.

    • @0neDoomedSpaceMarine
      @0neDoomedSpaceMarine 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, according to another comment, apparently this used to be done on the Colt SMG (as issued by the Department Of Energy), and would make the gun stop wearing out and breaking bolt catches.

    • @seanmtactical6069

      It should apply regardless of the buffer system. They all have some sort of rubber shock system on the back that can compress.

  • @nickcaravello2061
    @nickcaravello2061 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    If the gap were too small would it affect the bolt holding open on last round?

    • @seanmtactical6069
      @seanmtactical6069 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. If the gap between the bolt catch and the bolt face when fully compressed is too short, it will stop the gun from locking open. You need 'just enough' to prevent the BCG from hitting. More isn't better.

    so the problem I am having is I bought an armaspec gen 4 buffer system with an h3 buffer. Its been in a pistol build I had and worked fine. But I recently built a competition ar though, and decided to move the armaspec recoil system over to it AND to use their h1 buffer instead of their h3 buffer. Their h1 buffer has a rubber pad on the end of it where as the h3 did not. I know there is supposed to be tension from the carrier to the buffer when using the armaspec system. I still have the same amount of tension with the h1 as I did with the h3, the problem now is that when I go to charge the gun, the bolt wont come back far enough to catch a round to feed into the chamber. I have tried diff mags and ammo, so I am REALLY beginning to think its the new h1 buffer I have put on the armaspec somehow causing the issue. I thought of unscrewing the buffer tube one more turn counter clockwise to back some of this tension off, but I am afraid when I do, I wont have enough intended tension on the carrier that armaspec intended for it to have. Am really racking my brain here, should have just went with a geiselle super 42 I guess, but really wanted to use the armaspec buffer system since its a competition build and im trying to make it run as smooth as i can. Sorry for long post. Thx tons man, hope u see this comment soon, or someone does. Thx guys
